Cultivating in the Wizard World
Chapter 745 - 631: The Second Anomaly (Part 2)The spiritual power of all the wizards surged towards that direction, and soon, everyone realized something was amiss.
"Huh?!"
"Go and check it out." The warlock in a dark blue robe decisively said.
Nine figures darted out from the fruit storage room, flying close to the rooftop towards the northeast.
A kilometer distance was merely a matter of seconds for wizards.
Jeming descended over the manor garden, observing the area from above.
It was evidently a manor that had been abandoned for years.
Most of the roof of the main building had collapsed, vines crawled all over the stone walls, and weeds thrived in the yard.
Yet, the structure of the garden was still discernible, with orderly paths, broken stone sculptures, and a long corridor covered with wisteria.
The corridor was quite long, about a hundred meters, with stone pillars embellished with exquisite carvings.
The ground of the corridor was paved with stone slabs, covered in dust and fallen leaves.
But what truly caught Jeming's attention were the walls on either side of the corridor.
The walls were covered with graffiti.
They were typical child-like graffiti—crooked lines, unevenly applied colors, like something a child might have casually drawn on the stone wall with a crude brush.
Jeming's spiritual power swept over the graffiti, his brow slightly furrowed.
He landed at one end of the corridor, followed by the other wizards.
"These graffiti…" The young witch approached the wall, studying it closely, "They look old. The paint has seeped into the stone, at least a few years old."
"But not all of them are old." The cursed witch pointed to a segment on the wall, "This part wasn't here before."
Jeming looked in the direction she pointed.
It was a relatively clean section of the wall, where the graffiti's paint seemed newer, the colors more vibrant. There were a few human-like figures depicted.
There were nine figures in total, each in different poses—some standing, some sitting, some with arms crossed, some seated cross-legged.
Although the style was childish with simple lines, each figure's features were surprisingly distinct.
The color of their clothes, the outlines of their shapes, even some subtle pose characteristics, perfectly matched the nine wizards.
Jeming found himself.
The figure sat cross-legged on the ground, leaning against the wall, its posture quite similar to his own.
The figure's face lacked facial features, only two dots where the eyes should be.
Jeming remembered he had been keeping his eyes open to maintain the spiritual power scan in the storage room.
The cursed witch's figure was also easily identifiable, wearing a black cloak with a hood covering the head, just like her appearance in the storage room.
But what truly caused everyone's pupils to contract was this figure's right arm.
The figure representing the cursed witch's right arm, from shoulder to hand, was painted over with some dark-colored paint.
As if someone had used black paint to roughly smear and erase the entire arm from the image.
"This…" The burly warlock showed a look of interest, "When was this drawn?"
Jeming squatted down, activated the All-Purpose Eye, carefully observing the dryness of the black paint, its penetration depth, and then used spiritual power to analyze the chemical composition of the paint.
"It's freshly drawn." He said, in a calm tone, "The paint hasn't fully dried. Judging by the penetration speed and evaporation rate... it was drawn roughly a few seconds ago."
A few seconds ago.
Exactly when the cursed witch's arm was distorted.
"So," The voice of the warlock in a dark blue robe was slow, as if savoring each word, "there's something unknown to us that drew our portraits on this corridor's wall. Then, it painted over the cursed witch's arm on the portrait. After which, the cursed witch's arm twisted in reality."
"The possibility is high." The slender warlock stated, "This graffiti… or rather the creator of this graffiti, can modify reality."
Everyone's gaze returned to the graffiti.
Nine wizards, nine portraits.
Except for the cursed witch's right arm being erased, the other eight portraits remained intact.
But Jeming noticed some faint signs of incomplete modifications along the edges of some portraits.
For instance, a finger on some portraits had been traced over, a foot lengthened slightly, but those modifications appeared to have been erased afterward.
It seemed to be probing.
"This thing seems to have intelligence." Jeming pointed at the modification traces, "Look here, here, and here. It has altered the portraits more than once. It is trying, experimenting, testing how much its power can affect wizards."
His gaze turned serious: "And judging from these traces, it has tried many times. It's only because wizards' resistance to these laws is too strong, so those tiny modifications didn't produce apparent effects."
"Until it seized the opportunity when we deliberately lowered our resistance to experience the curse's effect, it intensified and erased the entire arm, thus finally causing actual harm."
"Although it's just an arm distortion, which isn't considered a severe injury for a Sixth Level Wizard." The cursed witch flexed her fingers that had already regained normal function, "But what if it continues to intensify? What if next time it erases my head?"
"I actually think it's not that it doesn't want to erase your head, but that it couldn't manage to, after all, you can't expect this thing to have any benevolence." Jeming shook his head.
The others thought for a moment, then silently nodded in agreement.
This thing's ability is actually quite clear—it can modify reality through graffiti.
But unfortunately, the wizards are well aware, no matter how strong this mechanism might be, it needs numerical support.
In the absence of sufficient numbers, facing stronger numbers, the mechanism loses efficacy.
Judging from previous situations, it's apparent that the wizards' numbers overwhelmingly crush those of it.
"In this regard, although both are eerie, the salty fingers and this graffiti are clearly different." The young witch walked to the other side of the corridor, looking at the graffiti on other sections of the wall, "Salty fingers operate mechanically, killing each household one by one, but it doesn't adjust its strategy based on situations. It merely executes some fixed rule."
"But this graffiti is different." Jeming picked up the conversation, "It probed us and then chose the cursed witch as its first target based on the situation at the time."
After all, the cursed witch is the main force in sealing.
If she's injured, the seal will interrupt, allowing the salty fingers to escape.
"So it's helping the salty fingers escape?" The warlock in a dark blue robe furrowed his brows, "Do such things cooperate?"
"I rather think it might just be coincidental, as we hadn't considered the possibility of a second eerie entity, so when I was manipulating the fate line, I inadvertently attracted all fates possibly related to eeriness." Jeming shook his head.
"So, this thing was essentially lured by us. The real point to focus on should be the strength of this thing."
He looked toward the cursed witch's right arm.
"It can harm a Sixth Level Wizard. Though the harm was minimal, occurring after the Sixth Level Wizard relaxed their defenses, it indeed caused harm. Plus, its ability is of the 'modify reality' type… this kind of power's danger level surpasses that of the finger by several levels."
Jeming turned to look at the crooked child-like graffiti on the corridor wall, his expression serious, his eyes filled with caution.
The other wizards nodded in agreement.
"The issue is… where is it now? Is it attached to these graffiti or hiding somewhere else, remotely controlling these graffiti through some means?" one wizard asked.
Jeming reactivated the Fate System, fully dispersing his spiritual power, attempting to capture any abnormal clues within the surrounding fate network.
A few seconds later, he opened his eyes.
"The fate lines are chaotic." Jeming shook his head, "I can't find this thing's body for now."
