Cultivating in the Wizard World

Chapter 746 - 632: Turning the Tables

The Warlock in the dark-blue robe stood at the end of the corridor, hands clasped behind his back, his gaze slowly sweeping over those crooked graffiti marks.

"Everyone." He spoke, his voice not loud, but it drew everyone's attention at once.

"We've already spent nearly six hours here."

Everyone present immediately understood what he meant.

Six hours was indeed too long for a mission that required handling multiple locations.

Those other Wizard teams that had chosen more popular locations had probably already dealt with one or two weird entities and were on their way to the next target.

"You should all have a clear sense of how strong those weird things are." The dark-blue-robed Warlock continued, "Honestly, they're not that powerful. Whether it's the salty fingers or the graffiti, their Energy Level isn't high in itself. It's just that their traits are troublesome… especially that kind of state where they merge into the rules and have no physical form, leaving us with nowhere to exert force."

The young Witch nodded. "If our output level wasn't restricted, then even with such annoying traits, they wouldn't be this tricky."

"And that's exactly the problem." The dark-blue-robed Warlock turned around to face everyone. "These things are not essentially hard to deal with. If we drag this out too long, other teams that finish their weird targets might very well find their way here to cut in. If our luck is bad, we might end up being judged as having failed to complete the mission and lose our exploration slots… We can't just sit and watch other teams snatch up all the exploration slots for that weird Plane."

He put it very bluntly, but no one present found it inappropriate.

They were all High Tier Wizards, not hot-blooded youngsters acting on impulse.

In this mission, dealing with the weird and saving civilians was the obvious, surface objective, but everyone was perfectly clear on what the true driving force was.

It was the research opportunity for that weird Plane.

A brand-new, unknown existence with a deep connection to the Laws—this was more alluring to Wizards than any wealth, any Military Merits.

Even if they didn't lose their slots outright, but simply wasted too much time in this town, allowing other teams to enter the weird Plane first and harvest all the valuable research samples…

That would still be a huge loss.

"So, I have a proposal." The dark-blue-robed Warlock's gaze turned sharp. "Since we can't find their exact location, then we flip the table."

"Flip the table?" The burly Warlock raised an eyebrow.

"That's right!"

The dark-blue-robed Warlock raised his hand and drew a circle in the air. A pale blue arc of light appeared at his fingertip, sketching out a ring that kept shrinking.

"We shrink the Barrier, reduce the diameter bit by bit from one hundred kilometers. At the same time, each of us unfolds our own Law Solidification Domain, pressing it tight against the inner wall of the Barrier, like a fishing net, squeezing the activity space of these two weird entities little by little."

"Once the Barrier is shrunk to a certain extent, they won't be able to hide even if they're merged into the rules. Within such a small range, when our Barrier and Domains 'squeeze' the rules of this area out, they'll have no place left to hide."

"At that point, they'll have nowhere to run."

The corridor fell silent for a moment.

"This plan is feasible." The Cursed Witch was the first to speak up.

"I think it's feasible too." The thin Warlock pushed up the bridge of his nose. "Theoretically, for this kind of weird that merges into rules, its activity range must be limited to the rule-region it can influence."

"If we keep compressing this region, it'll either be forced to reveal itself, or be squeezed into our Domains. Either way, it's better than this aimless searching we're doing now."

"But there's one problem." Jeming raised a hand. "What about me?"

Everyone's gaze turned to Jeming, who was standing at the edge of the corridor.

The dark-blue-robed Warlock looked at him as well, a trace of apology in his eyes. "Jeming, it's not that I don't trust your strength. But a Law Solidification Domain is the signature ability of a Sixth Level Wizard. You haven't reached that level yet."

"When we shrink the Barrier, we need everyone to unfold their own Domain to fill the gaps in the Barrier and make sure the weird entities don't slip out through them. Your position…"

"I understand." Jeming nodded, his tone very calm. "I don't have a Law Solidification Domain; if I force my way into the operation, I might actually become their breakthrough point. So you handle shrinking the Barrier, and I'll stay in the town."

"Not just stay in the town." The dark-blue-robed Warlock added, "We need you to keep up the monitoring of the town. While we're shrinking the Barrier, these two weird entities are very likely to try to create chaos by harming the townsfolk, or use them as hostages. You must make sure the people in the town won't be affected during this process."

"Leave it to me."

Jeming said nothing more. His figure flickered and vanished from the corridor.

Town center, the fountain square.

Jeming once again sat cross-legged on the stone edge of the fountain, his Spiritual Power spreading outward in all directions like a tide.

This time, he focused most of his attention inside the town, scanning with even greater precision than before.

Every family, every street, every building appeared in his perception in an almost transparent state.

His Fate System was running at full power, the causal network covering every corner of the town.

Any trace of abnormality, any fate line deviating from its normal trajectory, would be caught by him at the first possible moment.

High in the sky, eight figures spread out.

The dark-blue-robed Warlock stood at the very center, both hands raised high, a complex Rune Array floating in his palms.
