Chapter 188 - 187: Zhou Lifen and Fu Seng Return (Dual Cultivation)Chapter 188: Chapter 187: Zhou Lifen and Fu Seng Return (Dual Cultivation)
When they arrived in the city, Fu Seng found a hidden place and transformed into his human form. The two then walk the rest of the journey back.
Zhou Lifen glanced sideways at the man beside him from time to time. Still thinking how unbelievable it is that his tiny beast had grown this big.
Fu Seng noticed his glance and asked: "What?"
Zhou Lifen shook his head: "Nothing."
Fu Seng: "Then stop looking."
Zhou Lifen smiled: "You’ve become rather sensitive."
Fu Seng’s expression darkened: "And you’ve become more shameless."
"Become? If I’m not shameless how can I deal with a stubborn little beast like you?"
Fu Seng hurriedly walked past Zhou Lifen without looking back. Zhou Lifen shook his head helplessly and followed him.
During their trip, he had finally confirmed something he never expected to discover.
Fu Seng was his little pet. The little creature that was once given to him while still inside an egg. The companion that remained with him throughout his childhood, back when his parents were alive and the Zhou clan had still felt like home.
He did everything he could for the little beast to stay alive. Luckily, the stubborn little beast was also tough and after all those years it managed to transfer into its human form, and come looking for him.
Zhou Lifen reached over and casually caught Fu Seng’s wrist.
Fu Seng looked down at his hand: "What now?"
"Nothing."
"Again?" Fu Seng tried to wiggle his way out, but Zhou Lifen’s eyes suddenly darkened and his breathing became unusual.
"Stay still, we are still outside, don’t provoke me." He warned in a deep suppressed voice.
Fu Seng was speechless: "..." what did I do?
Anyone looking carefully at the pair would immediately notice that their relationship had changed considerably during the journey. Neither seemed particularly conscious of the distance normally maintained between two adult men. Zhou Lifen touched Fu Seng casually, while Fu Seng, despite complaining, never truly moved away.
When Zhou Lifen and Fu Seng arrived at the Li residence, it was already late afternoon.
The residence gate was closed, and two gate guards stood outside. Since the twins’ birthday banquet, Li Jain’s family’s position had become far more delicate.
His grandfather took it upon him to arrange additional guards near the residence, since Li Jain has no sense of security. This was done to prevent people without eyes from causing trouble.
The moment Zhou Lifen and Fu Seng approached, one of the guards stepped forward and stopped them.
"Don’t take another step closer. This is the Li residence. State your name and purpose."
Zhou Lifen looked at him: "I am here to see my master."
The guard frowned: "Your master? Who’s your master?"
"Li Jain."
The guard’s expression changed slightly, but he did not move aside: "Many people have come claiming connections to Master Li. Without proof, we cannot let you in."
As a fellow gate guard, Zhou Lifen understood the caution, but his patience was not at its best at the moment.
He looked at the guard calmly: "I am Zhou Lifen, I’m here to see my master Li Jain."
The guard’s expression froze. He had heard that name. With the Spiritual Tavern opening soon, news about Li Jain and his five mysterious servants were all over the place.
Among Master Li Jain’s people, there was a gatekeeper who had once thrown troublemakers out of Spiritual Tavern like sacks of grain. Some said he was only a servant, while some argue that he was a hidden expert.
But this man before him did not look like a simple gatekeeper. He looked Zhou Lifen up and down again.
Even while deliberately restraining himself, the spiritual pressure surrounding him was difficult to conceal completely.
The gateman’s face gradually became strange. He swallowed and asked, "You are... Master Li’s servant?"
The pressure coming from the man standing before him was so overwhelming that his legs were already trembling. If not for his strong will and his tireless efforts his knees would’ve buckled.
A servant? This man was a servant?
What kind of household had servants like this?
The gateman suddenly wondered whether he had misunderstood the meaning of the word servant.
Zhou Lifen noticed his expression and withdrew his aura: "Is there a problem?"
The guard quickly shook his head: "N-No."
"Then may we enter?"
The gateman immediately moved aside.
"Of course. This way master Zhou." Even his way of addressing Zhou Lifen changed.
Zhou Lifen nodded politely. "Thank you."
Fu Seng followed him through the gate.
Once they had gone several steps, Fu Seng chuckled, "You frightened the poor so much he almost kelt for you."
"I didn’t do anything." Zhou Lifen said innocently.
"Of course..." Fu Seng didn’t press further.
As they walked through the front courtyard, they encountered Liu Xiong who was on his way out.
He was dressed in black as usual, his posture relaxed, but his eyes were sharp. The moment he saw Zhou Lifen and Fu Seng walking side by side, his gaze moved from Zhou Lifen’s face to Zhou Lifen’s hand, which was still holding Fu Seng’s waist.
Zhou Lifen stopped and bowed lightly: "Sir."
Fu Seng followed his movement and bowed as well: "Hello Sir Liu."
Liu Xiong nodded. "You returned quickly."
Although they were all summoned together, the others knew that Liu Xiong was way above them and cannot be messed with.
"Yes, we started coming as soon as we received Master’s message." Zhou Lifen said.
Liu Xiong’s gaze lingered on Zhou Lifen and he lifted his brows: "What happened to your cultivation?"
Zhou Lifen looked at Fu Seng with a meaningful smile: "Oh, that..."
Liu Xiong immediately noticed something was off and his eyes narrowed slightly: "You left for one trip. Quite a productive one, so it seems."
Liu Xiong’s gaze shifted toward Fu Seng again.Fu Seng suddenly had a bad feeling.
After looking between them several times.
Liu Xiong finally asked: "What’s going on between the two of you?"
Zhou Lifen answered without hesitation. "Nothing much, he has been helping me cultivate."
Fu Seng slowly turned his head and looked at Zhou Lifen, his face turning red.
Liu Xiong raised a brow: "Oh, I see... How is he helping you cultivate?"
Zhou Lifen: Through dual cultivation. We are dual partners now."
Fu Seng’s face turned even redder. If there was a hole in the ground, he would have buried himself in it immediately.
Liu Xiong’s expression became serious: "Dual cultivation? I didn’t expect you to take matters into your own hands this early."
Zhou Lifen nodded: "You’re missing out, sir. The effect is very good."
Fu Seng lowered his voice: "Lifen..."
Zhou Lifen looked at him: "What?"
Fu Seng pressed his lips together, and said nothing.
He could not explain what was wrong in front of Liu Xiong. Zhou Lifen on the other hand was straightforward by nature. If he thought something was a cultivation matter, he would speak of it as a cultivation matter. He didn’t seem to understand that some things did not need to be explained so openly.
Liu Xiong, however, became more and more interested.
"Good in what way?"
Zhou Lifen answered seriously, "His spiritual energy complements mine better than expected. Mine also helps stabilize his beast core. We tested it several times during the journey. My cultivation rose faster than before, and his transformation also became more stable."
Zhou Lifen sighed: "Unfortunately, the technique we are using is lacking."
Fu Seng’s expression also became helpless. He heard from Zhou Lifen that once he reached the required level, he would be able to stay in human form permanently.
Zhou Lifen reached into his storage ring and took out a small cultivation slip: "This is the technique we found. It’s functional, but crude. It emphasizes opening a shared spiritual circuit between two cultivators, but its circulation pattern wastes too much energy. We lose nearly half of the gathered spiritual energy before completing a full cycle."
Liu Xiong accepted the slip and briefly examined it: "This isn’t a proper dual cultivation art. It’s barely above a supplementary circulation technique."
Zhou Lifen sighed: "That’s what I suspected. Unfortunately, it was the best one we could obtain."
Liu Xiong was a little jealous of the two.
He had been thinking about dual cultivation methods recently as well, though his problem was... different.
Li Jain’s body reacted strangely to his energy, and every time they became intimate, Li Jain treated the matter like a cultivation opportunity. This frustrates Liu Xiong, he needs to find a way for Li Jain to cultivate without disturbing their intimacy.
"Teach me the method you used to lure your partner over. I will give you a stronger duo cultivation method as a reward." Liu Xiong suddenly said.
Fu Seng’s eyes widened, he couldn’t believe his hearing. Couldn’t they find a time when he’s not around to discuss this?"
Zhou Lifen did not hesitate: "Alright."
"Lifen!" Fu Seng finally could not hold back.
Zhou Lifen looked at him with some confusion. "What’s wrong?"
Fu Seng took a breath. "Do you have to explain this here?"
Zhou Lifen answered honestly, "Sir Liu wants to know."
Fu Seng’s face became redder: "That does not mean you must answer everything in detail."
Liu Xiong added calmly, "Details are much appreciated."
Fu Seng looked at him. Liu Xiong’s expression did not change. He was truly listening seriously.
Fu Seng suddenly felt even worse, how did this happen?!
Zhou Lifen, however, had already begun explaining.
"At first, I did not lure him. He followed me. After we confirmed the blood bond, his emotions were unstable. He kept wanting to guard me, but he was also afraid I would reject him. I allowed him to stay close but he still held back. Fu Seng is cautious. He has been hunted for too long, and he does not ask for things directly. So I asked him whether he still considered me his master."
Liu Xiong’s eyes became thoughtful. "And then?"
Zhou Lifen said, "I told him that if he wanted to follow me as before, he could. If he wanted to leave, he could. If he wanted something else, he had to say it himself."
Liu Xiong looked at Fu Seng. "And...? .
Fu Seng’s face was warm, he didn’t respond, but Zhou Lifen didn’t mind answering for him: "He said he did not want to be known only as my little beast anymore, so I accepted."
Liu Xiong looked at him: "Accepted what exactly?"
Fu Seng nearly choked.
Zhou Lifen said naturally: "That he could be my partner."
Liu Xiong nodded seriously, as if noting down an important point.
Zhou Lifen added: "After that, cultivation was easier. Before, his energy always stopped halfway because his mind was unsettled. Once the relationship was decided, his spiritual energy no longer resisted mine."
Liu Xiong looked contemplative: "That may be useful."
Fu Seng looked at Liu Xiong, then at Zhou Lifen, and felt that despite their imposing looks, they were both idiots.
Zhou Lifen then said, "Sir, what about the stronger method?"
Liu Xiong raised his hand, and a jade slip appeared between his fingers
