Chapter 189: Chapter 188: Everyone Has Returned

Liu Xiong raised his hand, and a jade slip appeared between his fingers. The jade slip was black with silver markings.

"This is a high-level dual cultivation method I obtained before. It can refine two different energy systems without damaging either side. It is suitable for partners with opposing or complementary foundations."

Zhou Lifen’s eyes brightened slightly. Fu Seng also looked at the jade slip despite his embarrassment.

Liu Xiong injected his spiritual sense into it, then paused. After reading for a moment, he frowned.

"What is wrong?" Zhou Lifen asked.

"The minimum cultivation required for this method is higher than your current level. You are currently at the peak of Soul Palace realm."

Zhou Lifen was disappointed but not surprised: "How high?"

"Divine Power Realm at least. Preferably the Great Power Realm, otherwise the first circulation route may tear your meridians apart."

Fu Seng said quietly: "It will take years before we’re able to use it."

"At your current speed, it won’t be that long." Liu Xiong said.

Zhou Lifen looked at the jade slip regretfully.

Liu Xiong put it away and said: "I will ask Xiao Jain for a suitable method later. I’m sure he has something that suits you."

Zhou Lifen immediately bowed: "Thank you, sir."

Fu Seng also bowed. "Many thanks."

Liu Xiong looked at the two of them again.

Zhou Lifen’s expression was calm and straightforward. Fu Seng’s face still carried faint embarrassment, but the way he stood beside Zhou Lifen showed complete trust. Their bond was deep. It was not something formed in a day or two.

Liu Xiong suddenly thought of Li Jain. Compared with these two, his own road seemed much more troublesome.

At least Zhou Lifen’s partner knew what he wanted.

Li Jain, on the other hand, might accept a kiss, break through from it, and then think about increasing his monthly salary.

Liu Xiong’s expression darkened slightly. He has to do something quick otherwise, he might die of loneliness.

Zhou Lifen noticed his color changing expression and called out: "Sir?"

"Nothing," Liu Xiong said flatly.

As they walked forward, Fu Seng quietly asked: "Why is Sir Liu calling the master Little Jain?"

"Oh, that. Sir has been pursuing the master for a long time now, but he hasn’t been very successful yet. I don’t know all of the details, it’s complicated. You should ask Bai Lian later."

Fu Seng shook his head: "No, that’s ok. I’m good."

At that moment, light footsteps came from inside the house.

Li Jingsheng heard the voices and walked over. He was dressed neatly in pale blue robes. His small face was serious, and his posture was as straight as ever. When he saw Zhou Lifen, his eyes lit up.

"Uncle Zhou, you are back."

Zhou Lifen’s expression softened: "Litter Master Jingsheng."

Jingsheng nodded, then looked at Fu Seng: "Fu Seng, you’re back as well"

Fu Seng bowed slightly. "Little Master. Lifen and I went together."

Jingsheng nodded: "Oh, I see."

Jingsheng did not ask too much: "Father is not back yet. He went to District Seven early this morning. The renovation workers are finishing the work."

Zhou Lifen nodded: "I see."

"Your room has already been assigned. Since Father knew everyone would return, he asked us to arrange the rooms in advance."

Jingsheng looked toward Fu Seng again, then back at Zhou Lifen. After a short pause, he asked seriously: "Will Fu Seng stay in your room or need a separate one?"

Fu Seng’s face, which had finally started to calm down, warmed again.

Zhou Lifen answered without hesitation: "He will stay with me."

Jingsheng nodded: "Understood."

Fu Seng silently turned his face away.

Liu Xiong’s eyes flashed with questions, but he did not speak. He led them toward the side courtyard.

As they walked, he explained: "Your apartment is right next to the main building. Uncle Bai Lian and Uncle Hou Mingyu’s rooms are nearby. Uncle Ding Weiyuan’s room is closer to the outer training yard. Father said Uncle Zhou should have the room at the back gate."

Zhou Lifen nodded. "Master is thoughtful."

Li Jingsheng’s expression became proud: "Father is always thoughtful."

They arrived at the assigned room. It was clean, spacious, and simply arranged. There were two beds, though one could easily be removed if unnecessary. A low table stood near the window, and a small shelf had been prepared with fresh robes, towels, and basic cultivation items.

Jingsheng pushed the door open: "This is your room. If anything is missing, you can tell me or my eldest brother. Father may not return until evening."

Zhou Lifen stepped inside and looked around: "It is more than enough."

Fu Seng entered behind him. His gaze swept over the two beds, then paused.

Zhou Lifen asked: "What’s wrong?"

Fu Seng said quietly, "There are two beds."

Zhou Lifen looked at the beds, then at him: "Is that a problem?"

Fu Seng did not answer.

Jingsheng looked between them. Although he was seven, he was not stupid. He could sense that the atmosphere had suddenly become strange, but he did not understand exactly why.

He thought for a moment and said seriously: "If one bed is unnecessary, I can ask someone to move it out."

Fu Seng’s face stiffened.

Zhou Lifen nodded. "It’s ok, little master. I will move one out later."

Fu Seng immediately looked at him. "Lifen."

Zhou Lifen looked calm. "What? It saves space."

Jingsheng nodded as if this was very reasonable: "I will arrange for a bigger bed."

Fu Seng wanted to stop him, but Jingsheng had already turned toward the door.

Before leaving, Jingsheng paused and looked back: "Uncle Zhou, Fu Seng, Welcome back."

"Thank you, Little Master Jingsheng." Zhou Lifen and Fu Seng express their thanks.

Jingsheng gave a small nod, then left. After the door closed, the room became quiet.

Fu Seng stood near the table, and Zhou Lifen walked over: "Why are you standing there?"

Fu Seng looked at him helplessly. "You are too direct, you really need to learn how to use hidden meanings."

Zhou Lifen: "Those are too exhausting. I like being direct. You know that."

"I did."

"Then why are you still surprised?"

Fu Seng didn’t respond, he stared at Zhou Lifen with red eyes: "Because I searched for you for too long. Sometimes, when you say things so easily, I do not know whether I should be happy or afraid."

Zhou Lifen held his hand: "What are you afraid of?"

Fu Seng’s hand tightened around his: "I’m terrified that this is only temporary. Is this acceptance truly yours, or is it merely the weight of the bond between us? I worry that when your life eventually stabilizes and your memories are intact, you’ll only consider me as your spiritual beast."

Zhou Lifen reached out and touched the side of his face: "You are not only that little beast anymore. You are Fu Seng. You survived after I died, and cultivated alone. You never stop searching for me even while being hunted. You became strong enough to stand beside me. If I only saw you as the pet from back then, I would not have accepted you as my partner."

Fu Seng looked at him silently.

Zhou Lifen’s tone remained steady, but his eyes were serious.

"I am straightforward, but not careless. I know what I agreed to."

Fu Seng’s eyes reddened faintly. After a long while, he whispered, "Master..."

Zhou Lifen frowned slightly. "Didn’t you say you did not want to be only my beast?"

Fu Seng paused. Then he corrected himself softly: "Lifen."

Zhou Lifen smiled. Fu Seng lowered his head and leaned against him.

...

It wasn’t long before Bai Lian, Hou Mingyu, and Ding Weiyuan arrived. The two gate guards were startled by the imposing figures.

The amount of spiritual pressure emitting from them makes the air heavy and the guards’ knees buckle. It would have really helped if the young master had told them that he’ll be receiving guests today.

Bai Lian looked at his companions and smiled: "I didn’t expect we’ll all arrive at the same time."

Ding Weiyuan let out a dry laugh: "We should have been here three hours ago. But ’someone’ insisted on verifying every single residence with the surname Li to make sure we had the right location."

Hou Mingyu didn’t even blink as he was exposed, his expression remained perfectly stoic: "The Master’s message was vague. I wasn’t going to risk barging into the wrong house and being disrespectful."

"Excuse me, we are here to see our Master. Li Jain." Ding Weiyuan said.

His deep voice didn’t help the gate guards ease their anxiety.

The poor guards didn’t wait for another word. Their faces were pale, and their hands were shaking badly.

They scrambled to make way: "Please, honored guests! Master Li Jain is... well, please go in."

They didn’t ask for proof of identity. They didn’t dare. After watching as the three men walked past the threshold, before taking a deep breath of relief.

They were even considering being transferred to another post. This... they are just low level cultivators. No need to be too hard on them.
