Dao Lord: Starting from a Top-grade Golden Core
Chapter 161 - 98: Monstrous FerocityChapter 161: Chapter 98: Monstrous Ferocity
The wind had swept the mists away, leaving the sky and mountains the same color.
A cloud raft materialized in the sky, three figures standing upon it. The leader, a horse-faced cultivator, scanned the area below and saw several people already waiting on a mountain peak.
The one in the lead had a square, upright face, his hair bound in a cloth wrap—the very picture of a proper cultivator. The rest, however, were a bizarre and motley crew.
First were three old men, identical in appearance and attire, each carrying an ebony coffin on his back.
Next was an ancient man whose forehead bulged prominently. It was not the noble bump of longevity, but a large, deformed tumor growing off to one side.
Beside him stood a middle-aged cultivator with a foot-long shortsword hanging from each ear, the weight stretching his earlobes nearly to his chin. The final two were just as strange: one was completely shrouded in black gauze, while the other leaned on two crutches, a gourd dangling from the top of each.
A strange look crossed the horse-faced cultivator’s face. "So it’s the Three Elders and Four Freaks," he muttered.
This horse-faced cultivator was, of course, Jiang Shicheng. Behind him were Taishi Zhe and Quan Youfeng. The three had been forced to come from the Moyun Sect by a single letter from Young Master Chu Wei.
Taishi Zhe’s expression had been foul the entire journey, and hearing this, it darkened further. He sneered, "Instead of sending a few of their own experts, the Divine Flow Sect rounded up a pile of trash like this. Aren’t they afraid of falling flat on their faces?"
Quan Youfeng smiled. "Junior Brother, you are mistaken. Even the youngest of the Three Elders and Four Freaks has lived for four or five hundred years. Their Daoist arts have long been perfected. They must not be underestimated."
Taishi Zhe said coldly, "Oh? And can they move mountains and shift continents?"
At the mention of this, Quan Youfeng’s eye twitched. He said in a heavy tone, "With so many of us here this time, under a full siege, we won’t have to worry about that person using such a technique."
Taishi Zhe snorted but said nothing more.
When Jiang Shicheng brought back the news that the man was merely a Golden Core Cultivator, many in the sect breathed a sigh of relief. They further speculated that he must have relied on some powerful treasure to perform such an astonishing feat. In an instant, the awe inspired by his power to move mountains and shift continents seemed to vanish, replaced by burgeoning greed.
But the others had not witnessed it firsthand. Taishi Zhe, as someone who had, truly wanted no part in facing that person again. Unfortunately, he had only been able to form his Golden Core by indebting himself heavily to the sect for the opportunity. Now, whenever the sect had business, he was always called upon to do his part.
While the two were talking, the people below spotted their cloud raft. Jiang Shicheng glanced down and said, "Alright, Junior Brothers, watch what you say." He then guided the cloud raft to the ground.
The lead cultivator stepped forward, cupped his hands in greeting, and said, "Are you the fellow Daoists from the Moyun Sect? I am Song Yuming of the Divine Flow Sect. I have been waiting for you."
Jiang Shicheng didn’t dare act presumptuously and quickly returned the courtesy. "So you are Fellow Daoist Song. I am Jiang Shicheng." He then introduced Taishi Zhe and Quan Youfeng. Quan Youfeng gave a deep bow, while Taishi Zhe, reining himself in, managed a forced smile and cupped his hands.
Song Yuming nodded. "These seven are also helpers invited by my Divine Flow Sect. I assume they need no introduction."
Jiang Shicheng chuckled. "Not at all, not at all. The Three Elders and Four Freaks. I’ve long heard of your great fame."
Unexpectedly, the seven merely gave the trio a passing glance. Some returned to regulating their breathing, while a couple of others continued their private conversation, acting as if they couldn’t be bothered to acknowledge them at all. Shame and anger instantly flared in Jiang Shicheng’s heart.
Song Yuming saw this and frowned. After a moment’s thought, he chose not to mediate. He simply said, "You three Fellow Daoists should also regulate your breathing for now. We will need all of your strength shortly."
Jiang Shicheng was a tactful man. His expression didn’t change in the slightest as he replied, "Of course."
Just then, the deformed old freak with the tumor on his head suddenly spoke up, "Fellow Daoist Song, when exactly is that flood dragon arriving?"
Song Yuming replied calmly, "There’s no need to be impatient, Fellow Daoist. According to the rain-making reports from the True Form Temple, the flood dragon will definitely pass this way today."
The deformed old freak said, "This old man is just eager to witness the legendary Top-grade Golden Core for myself."
Song Yuming merely smiled faintly without replying. Seeing this, the others stopped talking and began to wait in silence.
About four hours later, a long cry echoed from the distance. A sinuous silhouette appeared on the horizon, swimming through the air in their direction.
Due to the unique circumstances of the Celestial Waterfall Realm, all mortals lived under the protection of cultivators, so to speak. They were no strangers to the Cultivation Realm, and one could say it was a mixed society of ’immortals and mortals’. As such, cultivators were not particularly shy about appearing before common folk.
Over the past few months of summoning clouds and making rain, Lieyun had been witnessed by mortals on many occasions. Among the common folk of Yunlan Province, it had gradually earned titles like "Prince Jiao" and "Rain Monarch." It rather reveled in the fame, becoming even less hesitant to reveal its divine presence. Traveling in such a high-profile manner was now the norm.
Seeing the flood dragon pass majestically through the sky, everyone’s spirits lifted. Song Yuming looked up, a hint of surprise in his eyes. He remarked, "This flood dragon... its cultivation level seems quite high."
At that moment, the middle-aged cultivator with swords hanging from his ears sneered, "It’s just a mere beast. Don’t you worry, Fellow Daoist. Just watch me capture it."
Song Yuming said, "Oh? Since you are so inclined, Fellow Daoist, then we shall witness your methods."
The deformed old freak chuckled sinisterly. "Two Sword Monarchs is boasting again. Careful you don’t lose face."
Two Sword Monarchs gave a light snort and, without another word, stomped his foot and shot into the sky. Two streaks of sword light, one black and one yellow, flashed through the air, slashing straight toward Lieyun.
The attack from Two Sword Monarchs was sudden, and Lieyun was caught unprepared. The strike landed true, instantly hitting the dragon’s body.
Seeing this, surprise flickered in the eyes of Song Yuming and the others. The two disciples accompanying Lieyun were even more shocked and began to panic. But in the next moment, all they saw were the two beams of sword light leaving a white scratch on the dragon’s azure scales before ricocheting away.
