Death Flag System: I Became An Extra From The Author Who Killed Me!
Chapter 168: Helping Hands"The Shepherds indeed have men from the Underworld, recruited from different gangs across the place. However, instead of being Black Shepherds themselves, they’re more like an extension of the Shepherds. They’re known as Helping Hands.
"Well, there are a few people from different factions who suddenly disappeared when the recent attack happened, and we’re almost certain they’re hidden Black Shepherds scattered throughout Viola. However, there’s a clear difference between Helping Hands and the Shepherds."
Helping Hands
They can simply be described as people who worked for the Shepherds of Creation without being directly part of the organization. They are merely the Helping Hands who operate in the spotlight, carrying out the Shepherds’ in the open.
One of the perfect examples of this statement was Jack Trade.
The information Dennis had managed to sniff out from the people he tortured was something Cillian had already been considering, as it aligned with his own thoughts. After all, there was no way the Shepherds wouldn’t need Helping Hands when they mainly operated behind the scenes. That was, until someone on the inside started sabotaging their plans for her own personal reasons.
However, it seemed Dennis wasn’t done relaying the information yet, as the next piece of information he was about to reveal was the most important one Cillian would need if they were ever going to bring the Undercity under their control.
"It is confirmed that at least four factions are leading their own people in the Underworld. They are the Unblemished Gang, the Nighthawks, the Black Tower Gang, and the Skilled Tooth Gang. They each have their own territory across the city, mainly occupying the north, south, west, and east respectively. Hah, however, that’s what these four factions were trying to show on the outside."
"After carefully comparing what I’ve gathered through my family’s connections with the information I obtained while torturing people who belonged to these two factions, I’ve learned that the Black Tower Gang and the Skilled Tooth Gang are in talks about joining forces if either of the other two gangs begins to fall. That’s why, if they ever join hands, they’ll be able to take half of the Undercity for themselves."
Deals like this were hard to spot due to how tightly they kept their information hidden, but it seemed Dennis didn’t mind abusing the influence he currently wielded because of his family’s backing.
He was also a smart individual who, once he had gathered enough clues from his victims about the matter, only needed to connect the dots and relay the information.
A torturer who enjoyed his craft while remaining reasonable, efficient, and aware of where his responsibilities lay.
That’s why Cillian knew that having good connections with these types of people was a boon rather than seeing them as magnets for bad luck.
Now, their connections was definitely showing good results.
"It seems Dena is busy as well. Is she rounding up her men in case something went wrong with your infiltration?"
Dennis asked.
This was the key point of their plan.
Get Cillian to act as a mole, discover more about what the factions were cooking up, ensuring that their own plan wouldn’t run into any trouble.
Scott, who had been silent at the table while they discussed the matter away from their victims below, answered on Dena’s behalf.
"She is. She was thinking she needed more men in case you failed."
Cillian shook his head, feeling that Dena’s worries were unnecessary. He didn’t want to see a scene where a large number of people were waiting for him outside their enemy’s territory during the rescue if there were ever one.
"And didn’t I also tell her that if I failed, everything would go nuts? She didn’t need to worry that much. I only needed a few. In fact, she should be here with us right now."
Dena was supposed to be with them when Cillian began his infiltration. The reason she still wasn’t here was because she was still rounding up her own hounds.
"I think she knows that, which is why she’s preparing for the best of the best. But looking at how confident you are... it seems we don’t need to worry about anything?"
Dennis said in a rather confident tone that Cillian wasn’t the type of person who would mess things up when they were this prepared.
Cillian then looked through the paper Scott had given him before speaking.
"This is everything I needed to know, right? I don’t want them questioning me about whether my information was accurate because you two gave me outdated information."
Dennis crossed his heart with a slight chuckle.
"Don’t worry, my information is authentic. Ask that uncle over there if his is the same as mine."
"Hey, brat. You keep underestimating me a bit too much."
Feeling that arguing with Dennis would only waste his energy, knowing that he was merely teasing him, Scott let out a short sigh before speaking.
"Don’t worry, Cillian. The information there is something you can use. It was stored in one of the books that Khalish himself is hiding in case the people from the Underworld decide to retaliate. Information meant to silence them."
Right then, Dennis pushed forward a question
"Which are you going to infiltrate first?"
Cillian smirked and replied with a rather giddy tone.
"I’m going to meet an acquaintance."
Dennis and Scott didn’t know who this acquaintance might be, but they knew it was someone who belonged to one of the four factions.
Eventually, Dennis knew who Cillian was referring to.
"I see... That arrogant girl from before."
...
Iska Befot was never the same after the attack on the Academy. She watched all of her friends and members of the gang die one by one at the hands of the Black Shepherds. It was a gruesome sight to witness, seeing everyone she knew from the Academy already dead.
The left-hand man of the Unblemished Gang, who was supposed to establish their presence in the Academy alongside the elite kids from their organization, was now truly gone, leaving behind only a member who had been treated as an outcast ever since.
Did her situation get better?
No. It was way worse.
The Black Shepherds attacked again, this time truly showcasing how powerful they were, as some of the gangs suffered heavy losses, losing manpower and resources they had acquired at the above world.
What choice do they have left now?
Well, there was a clear choice left for each faction to make, and that was the fact that the Underworld was free for the taking. The past few weeks had already been enough for them to form their own factions by combining the strengths of the small and medium-sized gangs.
Eventually, she reached her room, feeling slightly tired from the day’s events after it was finalized that their attack would begin soon, right after the Memorial Service.
Just as she entered her room, she noticed something different.
A man was sitting down in her chair while wearing a mask.
She immediately wanted to leave and report that someone had infiltrated their base when the masked person spoke first.
"The Unblemished Gang is the type of gang that scams people by usually handing out an enormous amount of money through their deals. If it works, then it’s all good. But you’re actually looking forward to its failure, and when that happens, you enslave people through your ridiculous deals."
"If people under you were able to find out about it, what would they think about your shitty ass gang operation?"
This masked man was no other than Cillian.
