Death Flag System: I Became An Extra From The Author Who Killed Me!
Chapter 169: MessengerHis statement about how scammy this guild truly was was something Cillian had already seen and experienced back in the academy, where he was shocked when Iska offered him an absurd amount of money for completing the mission of learning about the events of the academy tournament.
Even if they were an influential gang outside of the academy, offering such a large amount was still strange.
Why was it weird?
Well, Cillian was just starting as a club back in the day. They hadn’t garnered much influence yet to be able to receive such a fee, but Iska willingly gave him much more than the current norm. That was why Cillian had even asked himself why they were willing to do something like that after he met Iska.
And now, after receiving this information from Scott’s secret intel that Khalish had been keeping hidden in case the gangs ever rebelled, Cillian was almost at a loss for words. In the end, it all started to make sense.
This was how they operated and grew their influence.
’This is how they make a profit. What they do is enslave people after their ridiculous deals failed. They always target those who wouldn’t usually succeed, and it’s a loss for them if their counterpart becomes successful. Well, she was wrong to hand me that kind of job. I did it, and I was already planning to find it out myself. What she offered me was just a bonus.’
While Cillian was busy thinking about the situation regarding the Unblemished Gang, Iska became even more alarmed when she realized that this unknown person knew how their gang operated.
However, she quickly composed herself. If the masked man were planning to expose them, he wouldn’t have gone about it this way when he could have simply revealed all their secrets to everyone. Their fake image would crumble right before the mini-war in the Underworld began.
That’s why she was assured that the masked man had approached her to make a deal.
"What is it that you want?"
"Oh?"
She was very confident in her own thoughts until cracks began to form in her certainty when Cillian retorted.
"Nothing really. I just want to inform you that I’ll be exposing this gang’s secrets from now on, and I will have to point out that you were the one who leaked this information."
This time, Iska fell silent. She had been certain about her thoughts earlier, believing that the masked man wouldn’t expose their secrets while they were about to go to war with other factions. But now, she was beginning to feel slightly unsure.
’What are you here for then?!’
Still, she set her doubts aside and remained confident. Iska wouldn’t be the left hand of the gang they built in the academy if she didn’t have the skills to handle situations like this.
"I think you’re bluffing. You didn’t have to come all the way here just to make this kind of deal with me. It’s nonsense and irrational. In fact, the information you currently hold might not be true at all—"
"Your father abandoned you when you were a child, right? The man leading your gang right now is only your stepfather."
Finally, as if Cillian had touched a spot he shouldn’t have, Iska began to glare at him as she closed the door behind her. Then, she prepared a tier one fire sorcery and raised her hand after making a few hand movements, causing a circle to appear in the air.
The circle remained silent, but the spell stored inside was ready to burst toward him at any moment.
The masked man had truly touched a sensitive subject.
’Stop laughing. Don’t laugh, or you’ll destroy the image you’re building...’
However, that kind of reaction was all Cillian needed. It only meant that Iska was finally taking him seriously, unlike before, when she thought he was only bluffing.
Cillian really wasn’t.
However, keeping a straight face was hard; his fingertips trembled as he tried his best not to show any reaction. If Iska tried to joke right now, he’d surely laugh so hard while pointing his finger at her in a teasing way.
’That would be quite amusing.’
Adjusting his position to show that he had the upper hand, Cillian straightened his back and interlocked his hand together before speaking calmly.
"Now I’ve got your attention. Seriously, I wouldn’t even have needed to mention that your father left you if you’d just believed me."
"Hey, I’m warning you. If you mention it one more time, I’m going to fuck you up."
As if she were advertising the fact that she had daddy issues, Cillian shrugged his shoulders and spoke first, setting aside the daddy thing for a while.
"Iska Befot, I’m called the Messenger. I bring good news to you and your gang. And I know for a fact that a war is about to happen in the Underworld."
Iska scoffed, finding his statement rather funny.
"If you’re in the Underworld, then you’re definitely sure that something is about to happen here. It’s not an ’if’ anymore, but an event that’s about to happen."
"Oh, sure. You guys have your own network, and you’re probably aware that the Skilled Tooth Gang and Black Tower Gang are in cahoots, ready to help each other if either side starts losing."
Iska was about to open her mouth but immediately shut it when she realized that the Messenger’s information, which might have seemed unimportant at first, was actually so important that she almost lost her composure while trying to maintain her confidence in front of this unknown person.
She was hooked, taking the bait that Cillian had willingly dangled in front of her.
’Come to papa.’
Iska let out a fake cough and then said.
"What do you mean by that?"
This time, Cillian remained silent. All he needed to do was cast the hook, and it was up to Iska how she would proceed from there.
Iska then sighed and asked.
"What do you want?"
Her question earlier was completely different from the one she asked now, even though only a short time had passed. Right now, she was seriously considering the purpose of the Messenger and why he had come here.
Though she had an idea it was related to the happenings in the Underworld.
’I really want to have the Underworld under my control so that I can have at least a little influence in this world. The Hidden Boss, you could say. But I guess you wouldn’t like such an unprofessional answer.’
Cillian pondered for a moment, almost twitching his lips before giving her the prepared answer she wanted to hear.
"It’s simple. At the end of all this, when I see the Unblemished Gang take over the Underworld, I want the head of the Nighthawks’ leader."
...
Cillian immediately went to the Nighthawks’ base, where he met with their vice-captain, who could relay the information to the gang’s leader, alone. The as what he did to Iska.
"I want the head of the Skilled Tooth Gang."
The same scenario happened during his trip to the Skilled Tooth Gang and the Black Tower Gang.
"I want the head of the Black Tower Gang."
"I want the head of the Unblemished Gang."
Infiltration wasn’t really the hard part for Cillian. People from different gangs even decided to follow him, but thanks to his knowledge of the ins and outs of the Undercity, along with a few misdirections from Dena’s men, he was able to evade them.
The last stop on his trip was the Black Tower Gang, where he approached one of their members and told him that he wanted the head of the Unblemished Gang’s leader.
Cillian finally escaped their eyes once he realized they were no longer within the range of his Nearby Flag Presence.
After taking a few detours to make sure they were no longer following him, since this ability of his had a limited range, Cillian met Dena in one of the abandoned houses.
"You’re incredible, did you know that?"
There was respect and awe in Dena’s eyes as he watched Cillian enter the house with an emotionless expression after removing his mask.
He had just infiltrated the main bases of the four current factions and gotten out unscathed. Without Scott’s help in providing the layouts of their bases, Cillian wouldn’t have been nearly as confident in infiltrating them and introducing himself to the four factions.
Cillian cracked his neck and said.
"Your men should receive information about the locations I’ve given them in the upcoming days. Be careful, though. They might do something funny."
"I’ll handle it. Go take a rest."
Cillian waved his hand and proceeded to change his clothes, removing his shirt as Dena watched.
Then, after changing into proper clothes, Cillian said.
"I’ll be on the above world until the start of their war, probably until the end of the Memorial Service."
Dena waved her hand.
"Don’t worry, the three of us will take care of the matters here in the meantime."
