Dena let out a short sigh.

She had dressed quickly and come to the party without even receiving an invitation because she needed to tell Cillian about the information she had received from Scott. He had been the first to learn about it after receiving the news from his men.

Their network and the way they passed information to one another were quite complicated at first. Information always passed through the lowest ranks first, their men before reaching Dena, Dennis, and Scott. From there, it eventually made its way to the boss of the entire operation, Cillian.

Why wouldn’t he be the boss?

The rewards they would receive after taking control of the Underworld were unlike anything they had ever seen before. It was something they had been trying to accomplish for years, to the point that they had eventually given up on the idea, believing it to be nigh impossible.

Yet an opportunity had finally presented itself, and it was Cillian who had brought it to them.

For now, they will comply.

However, their plan had already started to show cracks, even though tomorrow hadn’t arrived yet. With the factions of the Underworld already prepared for the operation, the Xesie Family suddenly made their presence known.

Everything had happened so secretly and so quickly that by the time the information reached them, things had already progressed considerably.

"The fuck are they doing here?"

That’s why the only thing she could answer to Cillian’s question...

"I don’t know... That’s why I approached you."

Cillian pinched the bridge of his nose, having mixed feelings about this development.

It wasn’t good.

’Why are they here? When did they come here? Did they just arrive? No, judging by how well-dressed they are, they were already expecting this. They did everything so secretly... since it looks like Dena and Scott had only just become aware of the situation...’

It was happening again.

His plan was falling apart without even accomplishing anything.

He knew there was no such thing as perfect, whether it was a human being or a plan. But that didn’t mean his plans could just fall apart like this before he even had the chance to execute them.

And it was because he was encountering these new variables that he realized what he was painfully lacking.

’It’s because my influence on this world only extends to this city. I need to expand. More. I need to know more about this world.’

Letting out a short sigh, Cillian’s gaze swept across the Death Flags in the middle of the hall before remaining fixed on them.

’Let’s observe for now.’

The meeting with Finn Montolov and the Sparrows was coming right up. As a son of Leo Sparrow and also a member of the Whisper Broker, he’d join them and listen... and see if Finn had something to do with this development.

"Xesie Family..."

Cillian smirked, setting aside his anger as he knew this changed everything.

If his worst thoughts came true, then... the Underworld operation would be halted.

’You couldn’t wait for me to come to you?’

...

The party reached its climax as the guests listened to Finn Montolov’s proposition to restore the current state of Viola by creating new jobs and developing infrastructure. One of the ideas he pushed was the charity work that was currently ongoing.

It was quite funny that he was discussing this with people who were willing to stay here despite the absence of Fergus, the last living member of the Viola Family on this territory.

Of course, it might seem like Finn didn’t need Fergus’s presence because he was just a kid who didn’t know anything about politics, but that was far from the truth. Cillian realized this as he listened more closely to Finn Montolov’s statements.

’It’s quite a free city for the taking now.’

Cillian merely ignored Finn’s motive behind all of this, since it was quite clear what he was trying to achieve if anyone paid close attention. Well, those with enough information, that is.

There was no way people would think badly of Finn now when he was doing so much to help the current Viola.

This was why Cillian moved his gaze toward the side where Caspin was currently enjoying her piece of cake. He needed to do his own thing as well.

Caspin’s attention suddenly shifted as she froze halfway through bringing the delicious slice of cake to her mouth.

"What?"

She obviously noticed Cillian’s gaze.

"Can we exchange letters from time to time?"

The people at the table exchanged curious glances when Cillian became bold about what he wanted. For some reason, as they listened to Montolov’s ability to convince people to join hands with them, their curiosity grew, and their attention became divided.

Now, it seemed that they had two things to watch: Montolov’s speech and the conversation taking place between Caspin and Cillian.

The only person who didn’t find those words weird was Caspin herself. Though confused, she was rather interested.

"You mean we chat with each other through letters."

’Did I just misspeak? Why do you need to repeat yourself?!’

Cillian calmed himself down and nodded.

"That’s right. I wish to know more about the Mandate Family, but I can’t do that while I’m in Viola. I want someone to inform me about what’s going on in that place, and you, who’s about to live there, are the right person to do this."

Cillian didn’t hesitate to start expanding his network now that an opportunity had presented itself. If Caspin accepted, he might be able to gain a few insights about that territory here and there.

"And why would I do that?"

That is, if Caspin accepted.

The way she answered was already proof that, even though they appeared to be on speaking terms, it didn’t mean their relationship was great. It was all just formality because they were in public.

Besides, Cillian’s request was weird. Information about what was going on in that city? It felt like he was asking her to become an informant... which she was right to think.

However, Cillian had expected that rejection.

That’s why he was willing to make payments.

"It’s because I think simple letters are enough to exchange you for a few Artifacts."

Few Artifacts. Not an Artifact.

A simple exchange of letters is enough to get a few Artifacts from Cillian? Who would be willing to do that? Are Artifacts really something that can just be handed out like that?

As far as everyone at the table knew, it wasn’t.

"Heh. Very amusing."

Caspin truly believed that Cillian was capable of holding that many Artifacts in his hands. However, how could he guarantee that they wouldn’t have any harmful effects?

Did he have an Artisan locked up in his basement? If so... would she be able to get her hands on this Artisan?

Many thoughts ran through her head until Cillian cut her off.

"I can guarantee their effects, especially their negative ones. That way, you’ll be aware of whether they’re something to your liking or not."

Thankfully, some of the Artifacts he currently held were in his Inventory, most of which had come from the Artifact he had obtained during the recent attack.

Caspin remained silent for a while, thinking about the pros and cons. Obviously, there were only pros, but it depended on what type of Artifacts Cillian was willing to show her.

’Cillian will definitely need authentic information if he’s willing to give me an Artifacts as payment. Besides, it might help my family in the future. The question is, how did he come to have so many Artifacts at his disposal? Did this guy manage to rob someone?’

Caspin immediately shook her head before deciding to look at what Cillian currently had in his bag.

"What are you willing to trade if you want me to give you information about the Mandate Family?"
