Demonic Dragon: Harem System

Chapter 996: Quick Trip to Hell

Strax looked at Lithara and Albedo for a few seconds, still feeling both of them squeezing his hands as if afraid he might disappear again before fulfilling what he had promised. Lithara was clearly impatient, while Albedo tried to maintain some dignity despite her flushed cheeks and the almost possessive way she held his fingers. He let out a low laugh, freed his hands only to place them on both their heads, and briefly stroked their hair.

"Go to my room," Strax said. "I need to tell Monica what happened in Tartarus first."

Both of them made exactly the same displeased expression.

Lithara puffed out her cheeks slightly and tilted her head against his hand. Albedo tried to look less childish, but the small pout on her lips made it obvious that the idea of waiting a few more minutes did not please her at all. Even so, neither argued. Lithara took Albedo by the arm and started walking toward the mansion.

"Don’t take too long," Lithara warned.

Albedo looked back over her shoulder.

"Seriously. Don’t take too long."

Strax raised one hand in farewell. As soon as the two disappeared through the entrance, he looked at the new gauntlet covering his right arm and concentrated a small amount of energy. The black chains wrapped around his forearm glowed, shadows appeared beneath his feet, and in a single instant, his entire body sank into them.

The sensation was different from ordinary teleportation.

There was no momentary rupture of space or need to open a passage between two points. Strax simply entered his own shadow and emerged from another, as though every dark region around Asgard were part of one continuous surface.

He emerged from the shadow cast by one of the large columns in front of Asgard’s city hall.

Strax looked at his own hand.

"Gauntlet of Darkness..." he murmured, opening and closing his fingers. "Pretty useful for mobility."

That alone already justified much of the transformation of the old Helm of Darkness. If the ability worked across greater distances and improved as his affinity with Hades’s authority increased, Strax could move across practically all of Asgard without relying on portals.

He climbed the steps of city hall and entered.

He was immediately greeted by chaos.

Employees crossed the hall carrying stacks of documents, messengers entered and left through different doors, administrators argued over numbers in front of maps, and even a few military officers were helping organize boxes filled with commercial records. Two people nearly collided in front of him and kept running without even noticing who was standing there.

Strax remained still for a few seconds.

"What the hell is happening here?"

No one answered because no one heard him.

He quickly recognized that this was not a military emergency. There were no armed soldiers running around, no barriers activating, and no alarm bells.

It was something much worse.

An administrative emergency.

Strax crossed the main corridor, dodging employees and carts loaded with paper. The closer he got to Monica’s office, the more people he encountered. Some were discussing railway routes, others mentioned stockpiles, prices, transportation contracts, and emergency reserves.

He opened the office door without knocking.

Monica was behind the desk.

Or at least her body was.

Her spirit seemed to have abandoned the place several hours ago.

She sat surrounded by an absurd amount of paperwork, with three maps open in front of her and a cup of coffee completely forgotten beside one hand. Her hair was tied back carelessly, and faint dark circles rested beneath her eyes. An employee placed another report on the desk, received a signature, and quickly left.

Strax closed the door.

"What happened?"

Monica raised her eyes.

When they met his, the dead expression vanished.

It was replaced by something much more dangerous.

"Where were you?"

Strax immediately recognized that look.

That was not the Administrator speaking.

That was the irritated wife.

"Went to hell real quick."

He raised his right hand.

The black gauntlet reflected the office light.

"Picked up a divine weapon."

Monica stared at him.

Then at the gauntlet.

Then back at him.

Her mouth opened as though she were about to begin a lecture that would probably last half an hour. However, after several seconds, Monica closed her eyes, took a deep breath, and shook her head.

"No."

Strax raised an eyebrow.

"No?"

"Whatever lecture I need to give you about disappearing without warning, going to Tartarus, and coming back carrying a divine weapon can wait." She pushed one of the reports toward him. "We have a food shortage."

Strax’s expression changed immediately.

"How bad?"

"We’re not starving, but our reserves started dropping too quickly."

Monica pulled over another document.

"After the problem in the desert, we lost a large portion of the hunting routes in that region. Many of the beasts that normally supplied the markets migrated, died during the network expansion, or were eliminated during military operations. On top of that, we temporarily displaced thousands of people into areas that weren’t prepared to sustain that population."

Strax began reading.

The numbers were not catastrophic, but the trend was bad.

"So we’re buying."

"Yes. I started negotiations with nearby cities and a few territories with agricultural surpluses. I’ve already secured enough grain to prevent any immediate crisis, along with preserved meat and some basic goods."

"Price?"

"Higher than I’d like."

Strax placed the report back on the desk.

"We need to push agriculture forward."

"I know."

Monica pointed at a map of Asgard and the surrounding regions.

"The problem is the soil. A large portion of the land around the city is excellent for infrastructure, mining, or raising certain beasts, but growing grain here on a large scale is difficult. The climate doesn’t help during certain times of the year either."

Strax studied the marked regions.

"Greenhouses."

"Already expanding them."

"Fertility magic."

"I already requested specialists."

"Artificial soil modification."

"Frieren is analyzing it."

Strax looked at Monica.

She stared back.

"You already thought of everything."

"It is literally my job."

He nodded.

"Then what’s the plan?"

Monica pulled over another map.

"Short term: imports. Medium term: expand the greenhouses and start experimental farms in the western regions. Long term: I want Asgard to be at least seventy percent independent when it comes to staple foods. That means agriculture, controlled beast breeding, fishing, and strategic reserves."

Strax remained thoughtful.

"Do it."

"I’m already doing it."

"Then why do you look like you’re two minutes away from killing someone?"

"Because I’m doing this while you disappear into hell."

Strax decided that was a fair accusation.

Monica leaned back in her chair and finally looked at the gauntlet again.

"Now explain."

"Explain what?"

"You went to Tartarus, Strax."

"Yes."

"Why?"

He pulled out a chair and sat across from her.

The summary took several minutes.

He told her about Hades’s death, the awakening Titans, Persephone taking control of Tartarus, Zeus controlling an empire on the other continent, and the plan to use that world as a training ground for part of Asgard’s troops. Then he explained the trip to the Bottom, Thanatos, Cerberus, Hades’s Heart, and the fact that devouring that authority had not been enough to turn him into a complete divinity.

Monica grew progressively more still.

By the time Strax finished explaining how he had melted the Helm of Darkness and transformed it into the gauntlet he now wore, her mouth was slightly open.

"You did all of that since you left here?"

"Yes."

"How long do you think you were gone?"

Strax thought about it.

"Not very long."

Monica covered her face with both hands.

"You tamed Cerberus."

"He’s a good boy."

"You devoured Hades’s heart."

"It didn’t taste very good."

"You transformed a divine relic."

"It was ugly as a helmet."

"And you promised to take Asgard’s soldiers to fight in Tartarus."

"Train."

"Against hellish monsters and Titans."

"Intensive training."

Monica kept her hands over her face for a few more seconds before giving up.

There were problems that needed to be solved immediately, and problems that needed to be mentally processed before she decided whether she wanted to scream.

"We’ll think about that later."

"Agreed."

Strax stood.

Monica picked up another report.

"You’re leaving already?"

"Yep."

"Good luck to you," she muttered, returning to the numbers.

Strax walked toward the door.

Monica noticed something.

"Wait."

He looked back.

"What are you doing now?"

Strax answered with the same calm tone he had used to describe a diplomatic visit.

"I promised to fuck those two cheeky demonesses."

The quill in Monica’s hand stopped.

She stared at him.

Strax opened the door.

"Good luck with the food."

And disappeared before she could throw something at his head.

...

]

Strax returned to the mansion at a leisurely pace, once again using the Gauntlet of Darkness to traverse the shadows between the town hall and his estate. The journey took only moments, and as he emerged into the upstairs hallway, the silence of that part of the house stood in stark contrast to the administrative chaos he had just left behind. He walked toward his bedroom, anticipating that Lithara and Albedo would likely be impatient; after all, he had taken far longer than the few minutes he had promised.

However, the moment he opened the door, Strax stopped.

Lithara and Albedo were waiting for him.

The two of them had clearly used the time to get ready.

Lithara stood near the bed wearing all-black lingerie—fine fabric and lace that perfectly complemented her succubus nature. The set clung to her body, leaving little to the imagination and accentuating her curves, while slender dark straps crisscrossed her waist. Her red hair hung loose, cascading over her shoulders and back, and the satisfied smile on her lips made it clear she had planned every detail.

Albedo was on the other side.

White.

Naturally.

Her lingerie was white—elegant and slightly less provocative than Lithara’s, yet for that very reason, it seemed to suit her even better. The pale fabric contrasted with her long black hair and white horns, while delicate lace trimmed the edges. She kept her hands clasped in front of her, attempting to appear composed, though the flush on her face completely betrayed her nervousness.

Strax let his gaze wander over both of them, making no attempt to hide what he was doing.

Lithara placed a hand on her hip.

"You took your time."

"Monica was busy trying to keep Asgard from running out of food."

"An important issue," Lithara conceded. "But now you’re here."

Albedo remained silent, watching him with a steady gaze. Her usual confidence seemed to have vanished almost entirely in that moment. She had been able to face monsters, soldiers, and creatures far larger than herself without hesitation, but having Strax simply stand in the doorway, looking at her the way he was, made her heart race.

He noticed.

"Are you nervous?"

Albedo answered immediately:

"No."

Lithara looked at her.

So did Strax.

Albedo looked away.

"A little."

Lithara laughed and stepped closer, placing a hand on her shoulder.

"She spent half the time asking if the outfit looked good."

"You said I should choose white!"

"And I was right."

Strax finally stepped inside.

The door closed behind him.

*Click.*

That simple sound seemed to completely shift the atmosphere.

Lithara’s smile vanished for just a moment, while Albedo turned her gaze back to him. There were no more corridors, staff, wars, Tartarus, gods, or anything else demanding attention in that moment.

Strax leaned his back against the door and watched his two demonesses.

Then, he smiled.

"Were you really waiting for me like this?"

Lithara took a few steps toward him, her confidence instantly returning.

"You promised."

Albedo nodded.

"You promised."

Strax looked at one.

Then at the other.

"Then it would be rude to keep you waiting any longer."

Lithara smiled with satisfaction.

Albedo swallowed hard.

Strax locked the door.
