When facing death, there are those that learn helplessness, and those... who never give up.

Against the army of spiders, the party of three didn’t have any thoughts of fighting to the bitter end, but they never stopped sprinting even for a second!

“Damn! Don’t give up! Hah... we’ll make it!”

The encouragement spurred everybody on, but...

Yu Zhiye knew his own body. His shitty constitution won’t last long!

His only hope was… to hide in that place. But…

He stared at the backs of the two that still tried to desperately keep the lagger inside the barrier.

What about them? Is it even possible for others to enter that place if they can’t even see the portal?

Does that mean… he’ll have to abandon them? Is there... no hope?

Skitter. Skitter. Skitter!

Human-faced spiders gained on them from all sides and the golden barrier started flickering out…

Yet even in the face of despair, a fighter readied his pickaxe and a little fairy sharply glanced back with eyes as bright as the starry skies.

“Uncle! Now! Smash the ground hard!”

Jack didn’t know why but he instantly braked in place and obeyed!

THUK! The pickaxe smashed down like a sledgehammer!

Normally, even a full power strike won’t do much to the cave, but…

This one strike seemed to be the last straw and suddenly cracks spiderwebbed out from the point of impact to various spots all over the cave, and even up to the ceiling!

Everybody knew this was bad news in the making!

“Big brother, run!”

Nobody needed to be told twice! Jack bolted after the little missy, but even when told, Yu Zhiye fell behind by a step!

Then in the next instant, the entire floor, and even the cave ceiling, shattered into chunks and collapsed!

“Steve!!!” Jack turned fierce and dived back for Yu Zhiye, but their fingers barely brushed past each other before separating!

Fwoosh! A man fell into the darkness below, with many spiders spilling down with him!

“Big brotherrrrr!”

The cry slapped some sense into the falling Yu Zhiye and he yelled back, “Go!!! Meet you back outside!”

He didn’t know if they heard his cry, but a torch came flying down alongside two arrows!

Thud! Strange vines padded his hard fall and two arrows accurately nailed two spiders to the cave floor nearby while stalagmites crashed down all around!

Yu Zhiye didn’t even bother to catch the torch and didn’t hesitate to leap towards the nearby cave wall!

A purple cube fired out from his palm and sunk into the wall!

One second there was nothing there. A blink later, he shoved open the door and dived inside!

Fwoosh! There was the feeling of falling from a high place then he landed face-flat on the barren hard ground.

Safe! Yu Zhiye flipped over and laid there on his back, gasping hard for air.

“Damn, what bad luck! Bumping into a spider’s nest on the first run! That’s crazy! I shouldn’t have come to join the fun!”

Yu Zhiye really wanted to slap his past self. Why didn’t he just obediently continue his slice-of-life fishing?! Was that life not fragrant enough?!

Then again, there’s nothing to be afraid of since he had this pocket dimension cheat…

Unfortunately, the same can’t be said for others.

“I hope those two managed to escape and didn’t turn into spider food…”

It’s not everyday that he could meet such kindhearted and loyal people, especially in a shitty survival game.

After his beating heart calmed down somewhat, Yu Zhiye slowly got up and headed to grab a drink from the shack.

Once thirst was quench and hands were washed, he then leisurely went back over to the observatory to take a peek at the world outside.

A single glance at all the creepy-crawlies kicking the torch back and forth made him shiver.

“Damn. Just how many of these cave spiders are there? Are they just gonna camp outside my door forever?”

Hopefully not.

Yu Zhiye buried that red flag and finally turned his focus elsewhere. More specifically, the withered vines woven like a net.

“Those were what saved me? Is that a lucky coincidence?”

That’s almost protagonist-tier plot armor! If it weren’t for those vines, he might’ve broken a leg or two and wouldn’t even be able to run for his door!

“No, how can I be the protagonist? That’s clearly that scary anomaly. As for how to explain this…”

No matter how he looked at it, that vine net didn’t look like it could be formed naturally.

What’s even more strange? He noticed similar withered vines digging into the cracks in the walls down here.

“Looks like they originate from above? I don’t remember seeing any plants in the cave though?”

How strange. Everything that happened was so mysterious. Like there was a big secret hidden in the fog.

A wave of Yu Zhiye’s hand and the fog in the crystal ball caved back in.

“Well, give it an hour. I’ll check on this later and see if those spiders are gone.”

First, he went to deposit his cobblestone stacks and coal into the chest.

Next, he went to reset the generators using his daily passive income that cashed in.

Then, clean the web that lost their corrosive property off his nearly-scrapped stone axe and craft another backup.

Finally, eat to regain energy and relax in his hammock.

“Well, there’s not much that could be done in this safehouse.”

Time slipped by peacefully.

When Yu Zhiye checked on his crystal ball again, all the spiders were gone… except for the dead crushed under stalagmites or boulders.

“Should be safe, right?”

Well, even if it’s not, he can’t hole up in here like a turtle forever. Gotta check sooner or later.

After gathering some courage, Yu Zhiye equipped his axe and went out the portal.

A step landed back into the world, but he was almost ready to leap back to safety!

Fortunately, no jump scares happened. Only a torch that told him there’s nothing living around except him.

Yu Zhiye picked up the free torch that seemed to carry an eternal fire that will never get snuffed out.

“Hey, items that abide by game rules are one more awesome than another, huh?”

With a torch inserted in his pockets, an ax switched out for a pickaxe, and a compass in hand, Yu Zhiye set his goal for the rest of the day.

“Dig! Dig my way back to the outside world before my pickaxe breaks!”

Will his pickaxe take him to safety? Or will he get lost in these caves forever? Find out next time on... Fishing BallZ!
