A ten-minute walk away from the base…

“Aight, catch ya later, Steve! If anything happens, watch out for yourself, alright?”

“Gotcha. Same to you two, and good luck out there.”

“Eih! Adventure time, adventure time! Ehehe”

After sending the pair of happy-go-lucky employees off, Yu Zhiye plopped down in his sandstone seat and cast both his lines out into his new fishing spot.

“This should be far out enough… if anything happens, it shouldn’t affect me.”

Too bad the same couldn’t be said about the spy he left back there to gather intel on the anomaly.

Since her system gift was almost equivalent to a second life, such risky business should obviously be left to her.

What? Does he sound like an unmanly scumbag?

Please. This isn’t a shonen anime. In survival games like these, hot-blooded young men are the first to get a free bento.

That’s why it’s better safe than sorry.

Since he owned the perfect chess piece to do the job, why take the risk himself?

Just be the mastermind that lurks behind the scenes.

That said… Yu Zhiye was ready to lurk behind the scenes in another interesting place: the world chat.

It’s just that… when the chat interface got pulled up, instead of the usual calm, today, the chat exploded!

The reason? A very prominent global announcement logged in chat.

[System] Congratulations to Player [Anonymous] from Faction [Wilderness - Desert] for being the first to slay the elite boss [Spider Queen]!

Yu Zhiye rubbed his eyes and almost couldn’t believe what he saw.

“Somebody slayed a boss monster already?! Spider Queen? Is that even in the game? No—more importantly, the Wilderness Desert Faction? Bruh… don’t tell me...”

Was this done by that anomaly? How terrifying!

Even a single spider was enough to give their team a headache, let alone that nightmarish spider swarm, yet somebody hunted the boss already?

Sweet Stars above! Can this game get any more real?

Unsurprisingly, Yu Zhiye wasn’t the only one to feel that what happened was unreal. The waterfall of messages in chat said a lot.

[Please Suck Me] Holy sheet! I can’t even hunt a chicken without getting fined and somebody hunted a boss already?

[Night Goddess Simp] Damn. What a beast!

[Heavenly Sage] Indeed. The heroes of this world are many. Hey, I thought I could seclude myself to cultivate for a decade or two, but it looks like this sage must step up my game.

[Professor X] Yours truly is very interested in how Sir Anon did it… does anybody have any clues? Was it a team hunt or solo?

[One-Eyed Troll] Solo? Impossible. I would rather believe gods are real!

[Dudepool] Dude, maybe God Anon was a fan of souls-like games. The mastery must’ve carried over to reality.

[Piss Off] Who cares how he did it! I’m super curious about what rewards he got!

[Night Goddess Simp] Bet it must’ve been an achievement or a title. Lame.

[Assmonsilver] Mate, this be a global announcement. It can’t be that simple. Perhaps there might be a rare skill drop or something along the lines of a guild token...

Obviously, the anonymous hunter was a lurker that won’t satisfy the curiosity of these keyboard warriors, and all they could do was speculate.

Still, the general consensus was: since the hunt warranted a global announcement, the rewards must be extremely good!

Even Yu Zhiye believed the same. In fact, he even guessed that the reward might be the reason why that eternal life potion got sold!

100 emeralds—only something like a boss hunt could provide such a generous and handsome reward!

Alas… this was all a conjecture and there’s no way to confirm it.

Even if it’s possible to verify the truth, Yu Zhiye wasn’t the type to go posting all about it.

That’s just inviting trouble, especially since there’s so much hype and players all racing to become friends with Mr. Anonymous.

[The Greatest Pirate to Have Ever Lived] Brother Anonymous, my ship needs outstanding talents like you! Please contact me! Join my crew and you can be my first mate!

[I Am BatStark] I’ve taken over a fief and opened up my own territory. Inviting all players to come build a city together! Sir Anon, if you’re willing to join me, I’m willing to offer you a position as the captain of the guards!

[Professor X] I’ve recently earned a Sequence 9 potion from the church, blessing me with a profession that allows me to teach learned recipes to others. Brother Anonymous, please add a friend if interested.

All sort of recruitment ads dominated a good section of the chat. Obviously, some of the players walked ahead of others and even became lords of some sort.

With his cheat, Yu Zhiye believed he had the capacity to do the same, but he didn’t want to stand out too much in the early game.

Early prestige might bring rapid growth, however, a tall tree might not be able to stand the wind.

Recruiting more players sounded smart, but… every player was also a source of danger.

Who know what weird abilities other players possessed.

That’s why it’s best to carefully expand his trusted circle instead of doing a large scale recruitment.

“The foundation of a company can’t be built in a day or two. Take things one step at a time. There’s no need to rush.”

As for recruiting that powerful anomaly into his company?

No thanks. Not in a million years.

Yu Zhiye knew some matters were a waste of effort.

It will be nigh impossible to make somebody like that anomaly serve another wholeheartedly, especially if his suspicions turned out to be true.

On the off chance his recruitment succeeds...

“Inviting a god is easy, sending him away will be hard. It’s best not to play with fire. If that guy really turns out to be what I suspect…”

Yu Zhiye shivered. It’s scary just thinking about the implications!

“Damn… I hope everything is just my paranoia and wild imagination…”

Alas… a certain protagonist might’ve underestimated just how wrong this world turned out to be.
