Desolate Devouring Art

Chapter 1861 - Metalline Stone

The moment Liu Wuxie left the inn, he executed the Divine Ninefold Step and streaked into the distance. His speed rivaled that of certain Profound Immortals.

Even low-level Profound Immortals struggled to match his movement speed. In direct combat, not even high-level Spirit Immortals remained worthy opponents. As a result, very few cultivators inside the Ancient Origin Spatial Realm were strong enough to threaten him.

As long as no Origin Immortals appeared, Liu Wuxie had more than enough power to protect himself.

Upon hearing that the Ancient Origin Spatial Realm had appeared, Ye Linghan immediately prepared to travel there. Liu Wuxie persuaded her to remain behind, as Origin Immortals were barred from entering and the journey would serve no purpose.

As Liu Wuxie sped through the mountain range, an overwhelming pressure descended upon the land. Two towering mountains had been flattened beneath it, creating a terrifying spectacle.

The entrance to the Ancient Origin Spatial Realm stood unexpectedly close to the ruins of the Shadow Divination Gate. Liu Wuxie stared at the secret realm from afar and sank into thought. Perhaps the destruction of the Shadow Divination Gate's geomantic structure had triggered its reappearance.

That possibility made perfect sense. The structures of heaven and earth remained intimately connected, and disturbing one could awaken another.

The Ancient Origin Spatial Realm had last appeared five centuries ago. Yet throughout the entire period after the Shadow Divination Gate's establishment, it had never emerged once.

Now, only a day after the Shadow Divination Gate's destruction, the Ancient Origin Spatial Realm had returned. Liu Wuxie would never believe anyone who claimed the two events shared no connection.

Cultivators continued flooding through the entrance, but Liu Wuxie remained rooted where he stood.

Without warning, the Desolate World began trembling violently, urging him to enter the fissure. The Sky Devouring Divine Cauldron had reacted upon encountering the Fragrant Yin Wood, and the Heavenly Dao Book had stirred near the Heavenly Derivation Codex. This time, however, the signal came from the Desolate World itself.

What could exist inside the Ancient Origin Spatial Realm to provoke such a powerful reaction? Since cultivating the Desolate Devouring Art after his reincarnation, Liu Wuxie had never received a signal from the Desolate World.

He waited until the crowd thinned before approaching the fissure. By his rough estimate, more than six thousand experts had already entered the Ancient Origin Spatial Realm, with additional cultivators still streaming inside. With so many experts competing within one secret realm, bloodshed was inevitable.

The entrance proved much narrower than Liu Wuxie had expected. Only a few dozen cultivators could pass through at once.

Its shape unsettled him. Rather than resembling the broad oval gateways common to most secret realms, it looked like an enormous human mouth stretched wide open. Never before had Liu Wuxie encountered an entrance shaped like a mouth.

He activated Ghost Pupil and attempted to see through the fissure into the Ancient Origin Spatial Realm. A powerful force immediately rebounded against his gaze and drove it back.

Liu Wuxie then activated the Divine Tribulation Pupil and poured mental energy through the entrance. The moment it crossed the threshold, however, it disappeared without producing a ripple, like a stone vanishing into the deepest reaches of the sea.

"The Ancient Origin Spatial Realm is far more mysterious than I expected," Liu Wuxie murmured.

He abandoned any further attempt to examine the entrance and joined the remaining cultivators who had entered the fissure. The instant he crossed the threshold, an irresistible power wrapped around his body and swept him forward, robbing him of all control over his movements.

Once his feet struck solid ground and the mysterious force released him, he began examining his surroundings.

An ash-gray sky stretched bleakly overhead, empty of any sun, moon, or stars. The Ancient Origin Spatial Realm had lain destroyed for countless years, and its laws had long since descended into chaos. The absence of celestial bodies hardly surprised him.

Liu Wuxie raised his gaze and activated Ghost Pupil. What he saw left him astonished. Some unknown power had completely sealed heaven and earth, making the Ancient Origin Spatial Realm feel less like a genuine world and more like the interior of an immense vessel.

"Could the Ancient Origin Spatial Realm be an artifact rather than an actual world?" Liu Wuxie wondered.

For the time being, however, that remained nothing more than speculation. He could not determine whether this place was an artifact or something else entirely. If it truly was an artifact, why could he not sense even the faintest artifact aura? Yet aside from an artifact, he could imagine nothing else capable of containing an entire world.

Although the Desolate World had expanded tremendously, it remained vastly inferior to the Ancient Origin Spatial Realm.

The ground beneath Liu Wuxie's feet possessed an unnatural heaviness, yet its surface yielded softly under his weight. It was neither mud nor ordinary soil. The sensation felt disturbingly similar to walking across flesh, and every step left a shallow footprint behind him.

An endless expanse stretched toward the horizon without a single mountain, river, or tree to break its desolation. Boundless metal-attribute energy saturated the realm, condensing into countless sword rays that tore across the sky, relentlessly assaulting Liu Wuxie.

"What a terrifying metal-attribute world," Liu Wuxie exclaimed.

He frowned and dashed into the distance, using his footwork to evade the ceaseless barrage. At the same time, he secretly summoned the Sky Devouring Divine Cauldron and devoured the metal-attribute energy filling the atmosphere, using it to perfect the Desolate World.

Only then did Liu Wuxie understand why the desolate world had signaled him. As torrents of metal-attribute energy flowed into it, the Metal Realm within the desolate world rapidly approached completion.

Several figures moved across the distant horizon, each apparently searching the ground for something.

Liu Wuxie suddenly felt a hard object pressing against the sole of his foot. He looked down and discovered a fist-sized golden stone radiating an astonishing concentration of metal-attribute energy.

"A Metalline Stone!" Liu Wuxie exclaimed.

A single Metalline Stone could easily sell for more than a hundred thousand immortal stones outside the Ancient Origin Spatial Realm.

Liu Wuxie immediately dug the Metalline Stone from the ground. The instant it entered his hand, a powerful surge of metal-attribute energy erupted from it and burrowed into his body.

"Not bad. If I gather enough Metalline Stones, their metal-attribute energy may help me break through to the eighth-level True Immortal Realm," Liu Wuxie murmured, a faint smile forming as he examined the golden stone.

Metalline Stones were exceedingly rare. They formed only inside mountain ranges rich in metal-attribute energy, and even under those conditions, cultivators could find no more than a handful.

"Brat, put down the Metalline Stone!" a harsh voice shouted from behind Liu Wuxie.

He had been preparing to place the Metalline Stone inside his interspatial ring and refine it after collecting more, but the sudden command halted him.

Between seven and eight thousand cultivators had entered the Ancient Origin Spatial Realm. Encounters with others were unavoidable.

Liu Wuxie never went looking for trouble. But if someone insisted on provoking him, they could hardly blame him for responding without mercy.

Two men charged toward him, yet Liu Wuxie ignored them and calmly stored the Metalline Stone inside his interspatial ring. His blatant disregard enraged the two Spirit Immortals, especially after they had already ordered him to surrender it.

"Are you deaf, brat? Hand over the Metalline Stone immediately," the youth on the left roared, releasing the oppressive aura of a fifth-level Spirit Immortal.

The youth on the right remained silent, but his aura intensified as he joined his companion in suppressing Liu Wuxie. Both had reached the fifth-level Spirit Immortal Realm, though neither could be considered exceptional.

"Get lost!" Liu Wuxie snapped.

A violent aura erupted from his body, lifting the dust from the ground and compressing it into a powerful shockwave. The impact hurled both men backward.

Their expressions changed instantly. Liu Wuxie's aura was clearly stronger than either of theirs.

"You dare tell us to get lost? Die," the youth on the left roared. Without another warning, he swung his sword and slashed furiously at Liu Wuxie.

In their eyes, a mere seventh-level True Immortal was no different from an ant waiting to be crushed.

The youth on the right did not attempt to join the attack. He believed his companion alone possessed more than enough strength to kill a seventh-level True Immortal.

Liu Wuxie watched the descending sword with perfect composure.

Summoning the Bloodthirst Blade, he stepped forward and executed the Divine Ninefold Step. His figure vanished so completely that not even an afterimage remained.

The sword cut through empty air and crashed into the ground, carving a massive fissure across the strange land.

Then something astonishing occurred. The fissure slowly closed until the ground appeared completely untouched, leaving even Liu Wuxie staring in disbelief.

The attacker's expression twisted. He had seen Liu Wuxie evade the strike with effortless ease, but he had been unable to follow his movements.

"Triple Cloud-Piercing Strike!"

The youth pressed forward and thrust his sword three times in rapid succession. This time, he was determined to discover how Liu Wuxie intended to evade every attack.

Liu Wuxie raised the Bloodthirst Blade toward the sky and calmly searched for the flaws concealed within the incoming technique. He had no reason to use the Divine Mystic Yin Needle. A fifth-level Spirit Immortal posed no genuine threat and was hardly worthy of forcing him to reveal a concealed weapon.

He repeatedly executed the Divine Ninefold Step, evading every strike.

After missing more than a dozen times, the youth could no longer hide his frustration. Had Liu Wuxie been an ordinary seventh-level True Immortal, the first sword strike would already have killed him.

"Let's see how long you can keep dodging, brat," the youth roared.

He abruptly changed sword techniques. Every attack became sharper and more vicious, with each strike carrying an unmistakable intent to kill.

"A worthless piece of trash like you dares behave arrogantly before me?" Liu Wuxie retorted as he charged forward.

The Divine Ninefold Step carried him across the battlefield in an unpredictable rhythm, allowing him to control every exchange with ease. The Bloodthirst Blade remained poised in his hand while his eyes narrowed, fixed on his target. In the next instant, Liu Wuxie flashed forward and appeared only three meters from the youth.

"That's impossible," the youth cried in shock.

Liu Wuxie's footwork was already formidable, but his blade technique proved even more terrifying. Before the Bloodthirst Blade moved, its blade intent had already locked firmly onto the youth.

The second youth tried to intervene, but the opportunity had already passed. Liu Wuxie's speed left no time for rescue. In less than one-thousandth of an instant, the Bloodthirst Blade descended.

A blazing blade ray ripped across the air, releasing shockwaves even more terrifying than those of a fifth-level Spirit Immortal. Its overwhelming force effortlessly tore a black fissure through space.

Even a seventh-level Spirit Immortal would hesitate to confront such an attack head-on. Empowered by the Divine Ninefold Step, the blade carried unstoppable momentum as it crashed into the youth's body.

The youth had no time to scream. The attack split him cleanly in two, and blood sprayed outward before the strange ground swiftly absorbed it.

Liu Wuxie summoned the Sky Devouring Divine Cauldron and devoured the youth's energy and laws. Within the blink of an eye, the corpse withered until only a heap of skin remained.

The surviving youth began trembling uncontrollably. Never in his life had he witnessed anything so horrifying.

The scent of blood stirred Liu Wuxie's instincts. He licked his lips and turned his gaze toward the remaining youth. Liu Wuxie would never provoke others without reason, but these two had chosen to provoke him first and brought this fate upon themselves.

"You killed my Junior Brother! I'll tear you into pieces," the remaining youth roared, drawing his sword and unleashing a relentless storm of attacks.

"How arrogant," Liu Wuxie replied, advancing instead of retreating.

With only one enemy left, Liu Wuxie had nothing to fear. He could easily kill the young man with the Heavenly Crest Divine Blade Art, but instead chose to use the battle to temper its second form, the Mountain Blade. The technique embodied the crushing weight of a mountain.

Meanwhile, more cultivators continued arriving from beyond the mountain range.

"What's happening? Why is the entrance to the Ancient Origin Spatial Realm closing?"

Those who arrived too late could only stare helplessly as the gateway into the secret realm slowly sealed itself.

"Shit! Five centuries ago, the entrance stayed open the entire time. Does this mean everyone inside is trapped?"

The cultivators who failed to enter stomped their feet in frustration. Many of their relatives and juniors had already ventured into the Ancient Origin Spatial Realm.

The closing entrance affected not only those stranded outside but also every cultivator within the secret realm. All of them could clearly sense that the surrounding world had become completely sealed.

Liu Wuxie immediately accelerated his assault. He needed to end the battle quickly and investigate what had happened. If the Ancient Origin Spatial Realm intended to imprison him forever, then survival itself would become meaningless.

"I'll take you down with me, brat," the youth shouted in desperation.

He had finally accepted that no ordinary method could defeat Liu Wuxie. With no other option remaining, he gambled his life on one final attack.
