Deviant Kings: Claimed by The Four Lycan Kings
Chapter 13: The King’s Toxic TrapAdeline’s pov~
I froze. A suffocating dilemma wrapped around my throat like a physical wire.
It was a trap.
It had to be.
The timing was entirely too perfect, coming right after my tense encounter in the restricted wing. Every logical, survival-driven instinct I had spent the last year honing screamed at me to lock the door, delete the message, and speed-dial Raven. If I stepped past those iron gates in the middle of the night, I was stripped of my fabricated student immunity. I would be completely defenceless in the wild.
But what if it wasn’t a game? What if someone outside actually knew about the tragedy that destroyed my family? If there was even a fraction of a chance that the truth was waiting just beyond the perimeter, I couldn’t ignore it. I hadn’t survived the ashes of my past just to cower in a dorm room.
I will find it myself. Whether it is a prank or the truth.
I know how to survive it all.
Silently, I slid out from under the heavy blankets. I didn’t make a sound as I pulled my dark, oversized hoodie back over my head, tucking my hair away. I didn’t look back at Miya’s sleeping form as I gently turned the iron key in the lock, slipping out into the freezing stone corridor.
The journey through the academy was a blur of shadows. I avoided the main grand hallways, sticking strictly to the maintenance stairwells and the narrow, secluded paths Raven had shown me. The cool night air hit my face with brutal force as I finally slipped out of the side doors and onto the dark courtyard.
The massive, gothic iron gates loomed ahead, cutting through the thick mountain mist. Beyond them lay the pitch-black line of the forbidden forests, completely outside the academy’s protective wards.
I clutched the heavy straps of my sweatshirt, steeled my posture, and took a deep breath. Forcing my legs to move, I stepped past the threshold of the iron gates and into the absolute darkness of the lion’s den.
I pulled my phone from my pocket, the screen casting a pale glow against the thick mist. Nothing. No new text, no instructions, no location. Just the quiet, empty expanse of the forest road stretching out into the pitch-black night.
A sudden, sharp snap of a twig cut through the silence behind me.
I spun around, my heart leaping into my throat. Out of the dense, swirling fog, three silhouettes slowly materialized. They moved with a strange, uncoordinated rhythm, stepping out from the shadow of the ancient pines to completely block the path back to the academy gates.
My nostrils flared as I tried to read the air. A heavy wave of pheromones hit me, but it wasn’t the suffocating, royal pressure of the Highborn Lycans. It was the scent of stale sweat, dirt, and raw submission.
Omegas.
They didn’t look like students. I stood my ground, my posture automatically locking into a deadpan, rigid stance as the three figures slowly fanned out, cornering me against a steep rocky drop-off.
"Where is the person who sent the message?" I demanded, keeping my voice a cold, steady wire despite the adrenaline screaming in my veins. "What do you have for me?"
The omega in the centre, a scarred man with bloodshot eyes, let out a low, desperate chuckle. He didn’t look like someone who held ancient secrets. He looked like a puppet on a string.
"We don’t have anything for you, sweetheart," he rasped, his voice trembling slightly as he reached into his jacket. "We were just told a little bird would be flying out of the cage tonight. And we get a very generous bounty if we clip its wings."
My stomach bottomed out.
A trap.
It wasn’t an informative contact. It wasn’t someone who knew about my family. It was a calculated lure to drag me out into neutral territory where the academy rules couldn’t protect me, and where no one would hear me scream.
"Take her down quick," the second wolf hissed, his claws instantly extending as his eyes flared a dim, volatile yellow. "Before the patrol shifts!"
The three of them lunged forward at once, their desperate, hungry scents filling the freezing night air as they closed the trap.
The brutal force of a fist slammed directly into my stomach, driving the oxygen right out of my lungs.
I doubled over, a violent gasp choking in my throat as another heavy blow crashed down against my shoulder. The sheer impact threw me onto the freezing cobblestones. The sharp taste of copper flooded my mouth, and I coughed up blood, the crimson stain blooming dark against the mist-slicked ground.
I clawed at the stone, trying to force my trembling body up, but a heavy boot pinned my shoulder down, grinding me into the dirt.
The scarred omega leaned over me, his face twisted in a sneer of pure, paid-for malice.
"Don’t you dare get close to Lord Raven," he spat, his voice vibrating with a vicious, territorial hatred. "We don’t know what cheap, slutty tricks you played to get his attention, but a scentless whore like you doesn’t deserve to even step foot into this academy. Consider this a warning. It’s better if you pack your rags and get out right now before it gets worse."
Tears of raw, physical agony blurred my vision. My shoulder felt dislocated, and every breath I took sent a searing flare of pain radiating through my ribs. I lay there, trapped, biding my time.
Then, a sharp, electronic ring cut through the damp night air.
The second omega stepped back, pulling a vibrating phone from his jacket. He pressed it to his ear, his voice instantly dropping into a tone of pathetic, submissive compliance. I strained my ears, my hyper-focus locking onto his words despite the roaring pain in my skull.
"Lord Zyran," the wolf muttered into the receiver, his eyes flicking down to my bleeding form. "As you said, she came out. We are dealing with her right now."
Lord Zyran.
So... It’s him.
The name didn’t just register; it froze the very blood in my veins. The agonising pain in my body instantly went numb, replaced by a deep, hollow shock.
It was his trap.
Zyran hadn’t just suspected me in the library. He hadn’t just threatened me with words. He had been so desperate that he forged a text message and hired rogue scum to break me outside the gates just to protect his precious brotherhood.
To stay away from Raven?
"She is just a whore who uses her slutty tricks to get Lord Raven’s attention and other Lycan Kings’ too, and they want her gone. Did you hear what Lord Zyran said? He said he wanted her gone; he wanted her to be wrecked so badly that her pathetic act won’t work on anyone anymore but," the third omega growled, a dark, sickening gleam entering his eyes as he stepped closer to where I lay. He looked me up and down, his gaze lingering on my torn hoodie. "Why should we just leave this rat? She’s beautiful... at least we can get a little taste before we throw her in the dirt."
The other two chuckled, their submissive scents souring into something deeply predatory. The boot left my shoulder as they all closed in, their hands reaching down to drag me up.
Adrenaline, pure and lethal, replaced the shock in my chest.
I pushed myself off the ground, stepping back into the shadow of the rocky drop-off, my eyes locking onto the three men with a cold, unyielding promise of violence.
Zyran.
I had known he hated me. I had felt the burning, arrogant friction of his gaze every time I crossed his path in the academy halls. I had classified him as a threat—a dangerous, volatile obstacle in my quest for the truth. But this?
A wave of profound, sickening horror washed over the physical pain in my ribs. I had expected a political play, a threat to expose me, maybe even a direct attack in a secluded hallway to assert his dominance. I had never, not in my worst nightmares, expected him to stoop to this. He had actually hired lowlife omegas to do this to me.
He wanted them to ruin me completely, to violate the one thing I had left—my dignity, my autonomy. I was a virgin, carrying the weight of a shattered past, and he was ready to let these monsters tear away what was left of my soul just to test a theory.
