Adeline’s pov~

So my father was the mediator between the four thrones and the Crescent pack for Operation: Zenith Concord.

What is that operation for?

I turned the page, my hands trembling so violently that the thick parchment rattled against the mahogany table.

I searched for any more further details about the operation, or anything about my parents but there was nothing.

My eyes scrambled down the inked lines, hunting for anything—a death sentence, a trial record, a mention of their execution.

Instead, my gaze slammed into an official family registry entry stamped under the Grand Commander’s seal.

Issue of Grand Commander Alpha Fredrick & Beta Scarlett:

Offspring (2):

1. Ashley

2. Hailey

The world stopped spinning. The air in my lungs turned to pure, razor-sharp glass.

Wait, I have sisters? But why isn’t my name on it?

"No..." The word tore out of my throat, barely a breath. "No, no, no."

I shoved my face closer to the yellowed page, my eyes frantically scanning the ink line by line, character by character. I searched for a third name. I searched for a correction, an erasure, a tiny margin note.

Nothing.

Ashley and Hailey.

"Who the fuck are Ashley and Hailey?!" I spat under my breath, panic surging through my blood like acid.

My mind spun out of control, slamming into a terrifying brick wall. Have I grabbed the wrong ledger? Is this a mistake? Did I misread it? Who are they? Weren’t they my parents?

"No, no way," I hissed, pressing my shaking palm over my face, trying to force the hysteria back down my throat.

"I remember. I know my own mother’s name. Scarlett. That is the only piece of my childhood I never forgot."

So why were there two daughters listed... and why wasn’t my name on that page?

Where am I?

A cold, sickening dread seeped straight into my bones, freezing the blood in my veins.

Aren’t they my parents? Who are my parents then?

Tears prickled on the corners of my eyes from the overwhelming pain.

I know nothing other than my mom’s name. I don’t know her face. I don’t know what she looked like. I don’t know anything about them. I am pathetic. A fucking pathetic loser who doesn’t even know what her parents looked like. How am I gonna find out what happened to them?

All I remember is that my mom’s name is Scarlett. I don’t know anything about who my father is, but Selena has told me many times that my parents shouldn’t have betrayed someone who is that high and mighty, unless they have a death wish. Did she lie about my parents?

Even the part "betrayal" may be a lie, but not my mom’s name. I remember it myself, not from her.

So, have I mistaken this beta Scarlett for my mom? If she really is my mom, then why isn’t my name on the record? Why are some other names there?

I must have definitely mistaken her for my mom.

But why is the Crescent pack mentioned? Was it just a coincidence?

Was my entire life—the abuse, the torment from Luna Selena, the bitter hatred, the label of being a "traitor’s daughter"—built on a lie? If Fredrick and Scarlett weren’t my parents... whose blood was running through my veins?

Or worse... if they were my parents, why isn’t my name on the list?

I hit a dead end. That tears the shit out of me.

What am I gonna do now? Where am I gonna start searching for my parents? What if they are my parents? But why is my name left out?

Suddenly, a quiet, heavy thud echoed from the corridor outside.

Footsteps.

My blood ran instantly cold.

Panic surged through my veins like ice water. I slammed the iron-bound ledger shut, the heavy cover making a dull thud in the silent room.

Moving like a phantom, I shoved the ancient book back into the shadow-drenched corner of the bottom shelf, ensuring it aligned perfectly with the dust outline.

I bolted back toward the mahogany reading table, snatching up the ledger for our team project just as the heavy iron door creaked open.

I stood there, smoothing down my black hoodie, forcing my heart to slow its frantic, violent hammering against my ribs.

Kieran stepped through the threshold, his tall, imposing figure slicing through the gloom. His dark eyes were cold, calculating, and instantly locked onto me.

"I’m almost done," I said, keeping my voice flat and even, holding up the project ledger as proof. "I’ll take these notes and finish the rest in my room. I’m getting going."

I made a move to step past him, keeping my head low.

Kieran didn’t move an inch. He shifted his broad shoulders, blocking the narrow exit completely.

"You haven’t answered my question yet," Kieran said coldly, his low voice echoing off the ancient stone walls like a lethal sentence.

"Was it after the ceremony was over... or before the ceremony could even happen... that they rejected you?"

"Why does it matter to you, Lord Kieran?" I whispered, my voice dripping with forced poison, trying desperately to mask the violent tremor in my hands.

"Does the Fourth Throne find pleasure in sifting through the bloody trash of my past? Are you trying to calculate just how broken I am, or are you just eager to know how easily a wolf can be discarded?"

Kieran didn’t flinch. He didn’t blink.

He stepped closer, his towering shadow completely enveloping me, trapping me against the cold edge of the mahogany table.

He reached out, his long, calloused fingers catching my chin with terrifying precision.

He forced my face up, tilting my head until I was forced to look directly into the storm brewing in his eyes. His touch was burning, a stark, violent contrast to the icy aura rolling off his skin.

"Tell me," he growled softly, his thumb pressing firmly against the pulse point fluttering wildly in my throat.

"Did they tear the bond out of your flesh before you ever stood at their altar? Or did those twin alphas break you so thoroughly that your body simply forgot how to die?"
