Adeline’s pov~
"Make me," Chloe smirked, her eyes flashing with pure malice as she took half a step closer.
"You can’t even stand on your own two feet right now. You’re bleeding from the inside because their blood is already rejecting yours. You’re a maid, Adeline. You were brought into this house out of sheer, unadulterated pity. And now you’re begging them to keep you around like a sick pet?"
She took another step closer, her heels clicking sharply against the cold stone, stopping just inches from where I clutched my burning chest.
"You really thought you could be their Luna?" Chloe whispered, leaning down slightly, her voice dropping into a dark, mocking hiss. "A scentless, broken defect with no wolf, no bloodline, and no future? You are nothing, Adeline. Just a filthy charity case this pack took pity on out of spite. Look at them, you pathetic creature. They don’t want a broken vessel to drag down their legacy. They want a real female. A real Luna. Someone with strong blood, pure lineage, and an entire pack’s loyalty to offer."
She straightened up slowly, tossing her hair over her shoulder and casting a brilliant, triumphant smile toward the twin Alphas.
"They deserve a true Luna," Chloe cooed, her voice dripping with artificial innocence as she stretched her arms out toward them. "Someone with royal blood running through her veins. Someone like me."
She turned her head slightly, shooting a sweet, innocent glance back over her shoulder at the twins.
"Lucas? Logan? Are you really going to keep her waiting? She said it herself—she can’t handle a double rejection. Why don’t you give the poor little orphan exactly what she deserves and get this over with?"
Lucas’s jaw tightened, his eyes flashing dangerous gold as he looked back down at me, completely stripped of any remaining hesitation. "Chloe’s right," he said, his voice cold, heavy, and completely devoid of humanity. "We’ve wasted enough breath on a wolfless ghost."
"She’s right," Lucas growled, stepping forward without a second of hesitation. He wrapped his broad hand firmly around Chloe’s waist, drawing her flush against his side. He didn’t even look down at me anymore.
The golden light in his eyes was fixed entirely on Chloe, as if she were the only female worthy of breathing the same air in this realm.
"We’ve wasted enough breath on this defect. We’ve let her stain our air for far too long. Let’s just get this over with."
"End it, Lucas," Chloe urged softly, leaning her head against his broad chest, her wicked, gleeful eyes locking onto mine to savor every single second of my impending destruction. "Break the link right now so everyone in the pack knows where she truly belongs—in the dirt outside our walls."
"Please..." I choked out, a thick knot of blood and tears catching in my throat. "Lucas... Logan... not at the same time... it’ll kill me... my soul is cracking..."
Logan stepped forward to stand on Chloe’s other side, his highborn Alpha aura flaring to its absolute peak. The sheer, suffocating pressure slammed into the room, flattening the lungs inside my ribcage and suffocating the last remaining scrap of air out of my chest.
Beside him, Lucas took a deep, final breath. He didn’t look at my weeping face. He looked out toward the grand windows, his voice echoing off the high, vaulted ceilings.
"A wolfless omega has no place by my side," Lucas commanded, his voice laced with absolute, unyielding Alpha authority that forced my spine to bend in agonising submission. "I, Alpha Lucas of the Crescent Pack, hereby reject you, Adeline, as my mate and my Luna."
SNAP.
A violent, jagged shockwave ripped straight through the centre of my chest, tearing the first golden thread of the double bond cleanly out of my soul. It felt as if a white-hot blade had been plunged into my sternum and twisted until the bone shattered.
I screamed—a raw, inhuman sound—doubling over on the floor as liquid fire surged through my veins, burning every nerve ending alive.
"No! No, stop! Logan, please—!" I begged, my fingers clawing uselessly at the polished floor, blood leaking from my bitten lip.
Before I could even drag a single gasp of air back into my collapsed lungs, Logan’s voice slammed down upon me like an executioner’s heavy iron axe.
"And I, Alpha Logan of the Crescent Pack, second the rejection," he growled, his voice merging seamlessly with his brother’s cold, lethal decree. "You are nothing to us. Our Luna will be Chloe when she turns eighteen next year. Pack your rags and get the hell out of our territory before sunrise, rogue."
CRACK.
The second golden thread snapped into a million jagged pieces.
The double rejection hit my wolfless, defenceless body with the force of a physical explosion. The shockwave didn’t just break the bond—it shattered my internal spirit.
A strangled, gut-wrenching scream tore from my throat, raw and shredded, as dark, blinding agony consumed my vision entirely.
The sheer, unrestrained power of two highborn Alphas forcefully tearing their souls away from mine simultaneously crushed my torso from the inside out.
My ribs felt like they were collapsing into my lungs, my heart haemorrhaging under the unbearable spiritual weight.
I crumpled flat onto the freezing marble floor, my body writhing in uncontrollable, violent spasms as my newly awakened, weak little wolf whimpered once inside my mind... and then went completely silent.
Blood welled up in the back of my throat, thick and hot, tasting heavily of rust and copper. It spilled over my lips, staining the pristine white marble beneath my cheek.
"Look at her." Chloe’s soft, delighted laughter echoed into the night air above me, sounding distant and muffled through the roaring static in my ears. "She looks so pathetic lying in her own blood. Like a crushed beetle."
"Come on, Chloe," Logan’s voice murmured softly, his heavy hand resting gently on her back. "Don’t ruin your shoes stepping near her mess. The guards will sweep her body onto the driveway before dawn."
"Goodbye, little defect," Chloe purred, her sharp heel clicking right near my ear as they turned away. "Enjoy the wildlands."
Through the haze of agonising, pitch-black darkness creeping into the edges of my sight, I lay paralysed.
The quiet, receding thud of their heavy boots echoed down the long hallway, accompanied by Chloe’s sweet, lingering giggles, leaving me to bleed out entirely alone in the freezing dark.
