Adeline’s pov~

I saw it right then.

That tiny, familiar flicker of pure condescension in their eyes. The unspoken disgust that every highborn pureblood held for someone they deemed a scentless, powerless defect.

To them, I was just some lowborn nobody brought into a sacred hall, a stray girl who dared to raise a silver edge against royal blood.

"Complainants," Vane said, his gaze flicking toward the right table, "Alpha Logan and Alpha Lucas of the Crescent Pack. The charge brought against you, Adeline, is the intentional drawing of highborn Alpha blood using a restricted, silver-lined weapon inside academy grounds. A violation of the First Code."

Vane leaned forward slightly, resting his elbows on the dark wood, his thick fingers intertwining.

"Before this committee hears the testimony of the Crescent Pack," Vane said softly, his voice dropping into a flat, dangerous register, "how do you answer to the charge, transfer? Did you or did you not drive a silver blade into an Alpha’s flesh on this academy’s ground?"

Every single eye in the U-shaped court snapped directly toward me.

Lucas sneered, his chest puffing up as he waited for me to falter and break under the pressure. Beside him, Chloe held her breath, her eyes wide with a sick, desperate hope, practically praying for my immediate execution right then and there.

"I am waiting for an answer, transfer," Alpha Vane warned, his gravelly baritone rumbling with heavy Alpha authority, meant to force any lower wolf to their knees. "Did you or did you not draw silver against a highborn Alpha inside these halls?"

I met the head committee member’s gaze without blinking, my expression remaining completely unreadable, cold, and dead-eyed.

"I did."

"I used my super sharp silver blade, yes," I said, my voice smooth, chillingly steady, and echoing off the cold stone arches without a single trace of hesitation.

A sharp gasp escaped Chloe’s throat, while Logan let out a harsh, triumphant scoff.

"You hear that?!" Lucas burst out, standing up half an inch from his seat as he gestured wildly toward me. "She admits it! She openly confesses to breaking the First Code! She attacked my brother with a restricted silver weapon without provocation! On academy grounds! That alone warrants immediate expulsion and detention!"

"Sit down, Alpha Lucas," Vane commanded, his voice cold and sharp enough to freeze the room. He didn’t even look at Lucas as the young Alpha reluctantly dropped back into his chair, jaw working in anger.

Alpha Vane didn’t look pleased or angry. Instead, his brow pulled down into a deep, heavy furrow, a look of strange, quiet confusion taking over his scarred face.

"How did you even enter this academy being scentless?" Vane asked suddenly, his voice sharp and demanding.

Vane didn’t even bother waiting for my reply. He turned his head slightly to the committee member sitting to his left, a lean Alpha with cold amber eyes.

"Bring me her file," Vane commanded, his dark tone leaving zero room for argument. "Now."

The Alpha stood up immediately, his long charcoal robes sweeping against the marble floor as he turned and disappeared through the side door behind the high dais to fetch my documents.

I sat in the cold, heavy silence, my fingers resting quietly inside my hoodie pockets.

They didn’t know who had put me in this academy.

So excited to see that expression on their faces when they see that ’seal’ on my file.

Let the drama begin.

Vane’s amber eyes remained fixed on me, dark and analytical. "You confess to the crime, Adeline. Yet you sit there showing zero remorse. Explain yourself before this committee hands down your sentence."

My sentence? Oh Goddess...

"It wasn’t an unprovoked attack," I said, my tone dropping into a flat, razor-sharp register.

"Alpha Logan grabbed my wrist by force. He used his physical strength to yank me backwards, trapping me, and refused to let go when I told him to. He threatened to force me onto my knees."

I tilted my head, my gaze flicking to Logan, whose face was already flushing dark red with embarrassment.

"I gave him a clear, verbal warning to take his hands off me," I continued, looking straight back at Vane.

"He explicitly refused and tightened his grip. In my eyes, an aggressive, unwanted physical restraint from a male is a direct threat to my safety. I didn’t draw silver to murder him, Alpha Vane. If I wanted him dead, my blade wouldn’t have landed on his wrist—it would have gone straight through his throat."

"That’s a lie!" Logan roared, slamming his uninjured hand onto the table, unable to contain his humiliation any longer. "She is twisting the truth! I was holding her accountable for disrespecting Chloe! She attacked me with lethal intent! Look at my wrist!"

Logan thrust his heavily bandaged arm into the light, exposing the dark, ugly black-and-silver burns seeping through the white cloth.

"She used pure, illegal silver! The wound isn’t healing! She tried to poison my blood!"

"I used silver because standard steel is useless against an Alpha," I cut in smoothly, my voice slicing right over his furious shouting.

"If a highborn male thinks he can lay his hands on me without my consent, he should be prepared for the consequences. I don’t care about your pack titles, and I certainly don’t bow to men who think physical force gives them power over me."

"Silence!" Vane’s voice cracked through the court like a thunderclap, his heavy fist slamming onto the oak table with enough force to make the wood groan.

Logan snapped his mouth shut, breathing heavily through his nose, his eyes burning with pure, murderous fury.

Alpha Vane leaned back, his amber eyes narrowing as he stared down at me.

"Your defiance is bold, transfer. But this academy operates under strict laws, not your personal sense of justice. Self-defence or not, drawing silver on academy grounds is a severe offence. A scentless transfer with no pack standing, no highborn lineage, and no protector cannot simply slice an Alpha and walk away unpunished."

"The Royal Disciplinary Committee finds you guilty of violating the First Code," Vane announced coldly. "Your punishment shall be immediate expulsion from this academy, followed by—"

"Followed by what, exactly, Alpha Vane?"

A deep, velvet voice, heavy with dark dominance and laced with smooth, terrifying power, cut through the quiet air of the court from the front doors.

The heavy oak doors swung open.
