The next day, at the crack of dawn, Mu Xiaoxiao, who was on the last watch, woke the other two.
After learning what had happened in the ruins, they decided to descend the mountain rather than linger in the range at the heart of the site.
The mountain range, while full of opportunities, was also full of danger.
Heaven only knew how many Martial King Realm—or even Martial Emperor Realm—mummified corpses had been released from the various main and side halls by the crowds swarming the Blood Sect ruins.
With their meager strength, if they encountered a Martial King Realm being, they would be facing certain death, likely without even a chance to flee.
Treasures were great, but one had to know their own limits. Even if you could snatch a treasure, you had to be alive to use it.
Chu Qingyun and Mu Xiaoxiao had also discussed trying to stop others from opening the halls, but they concluded it was practically impossible.
First of all, the others might not believe them.
Second, a full day had passed, and there was no telling how many main and side halls had already been opened. It was too late to try and stop them.
However, the strange disease was already beginning to spread throughout the ruins.
On their way down the mountain, the three of them encountered two Mutants infected with the strange disease.
The two of them appeared to have been mutated for some time. Not only were their eyes blood-red and their teeth and nails razor-sharp, but their shirts were also shredded, revealing skin that had turned a dark red.
In the light of day, these mutated creatures looked even more monstrous and terrifying.
"Chu Qingyun, are these the people you mentioned? The ones who got infected after entering the mountains?" Mu Xiaoxiao asked, her face a little pale and her voice wavering.
She had an instinctive fear of such grotesque, blood-sucking monsters.
Chu Qingyun nodded, his expression serious. "They have the aura of a Level Six Martial Spirit. That means they were both Level Six Martial Spirits before they were infected. Be careful. These things are hard to deal with."
"I'll take the one on the left. You and Dai take the one on the right," Mu Xiaoxiao said, her voice firm after taking a deep breath.
"No, you and Dai should team up. I'll handle the one on the right by myself," Chu Qingyun said.
Mu Xiaoxiao paused, then she understood.
'Chu Qingyun's strength is probably far greater than mine now. Even a Level Seven Martial Spirit like Huo Qinggang couldn't last more than two or three blows against him.'
So, Mu Xiaoxiao nodded silently without another word.
Upon seeing the three humans, the two Mutants grew instantly excited. With guttural roars, they lunged.
The Mutants were incredibly fast, like two Blood Shadows, and they were upon them in the blink of an eye.
Chu Qingyun drew his Earth Seal Sword and met the attack with a blast of Thunder Light Sword Qi.
Meanwhile, Mu Xiaoxiao and Dai teamed up to engage the other Mutant.
BOOM!
The three-meter-long beam of Thunder Light Sword Qi slammed into the Mutant's chest, but it stopped dead after cutting in about a centimeter.
The Mutant, however, felt no pain at all. It actually swatted the Sword Qi aside with its hand and turned to pounce on Chu Qingyun.
"Iron Thread Ten-Star Vine!"
With a sharp cry from Chu Qingyun, a towering Martial Soul Illusion materialized behind him. Ten vines sprouted rapidly, tracing ten arcs through the air as they shot toward the Mutant.
Lacking reason and intelligence, the Mutant made no attempt to dodge or attack the vines. Instantly, it was bound tightly by the ten vines, wrapped again and again.
However, the Mutant's violent struggles caused the vines to rapidly tear and snap.
Just as the Scroll recorded, the Mutants became incomparably strong after being infected. Although it was only a Level Six Martial Spirit, it was completely unfazed by the restraints of Chu Qingyun's vines!
Chu Qingyun, however, hadn't expected to subdue the monster with his Martial Soul alone. All he wanted was an opening to attack.
"Die!"
In an instant, Chu Qingyun pushed his Profound Celestial Divine Pattern to its limit. His Thunder Light Sword Qi also condensed to its utmost, emitting a faint purple glow. This time, he only infused the Primordial Power he was using with the Martial Soul Power of his Tier Four Black Arrow Martial Soul.
This was the strongest sword attack Chu Qingyun could currently unleash, second only to his Thunder Sword.
He aimed straight for the Mutant's heart.
SHUNK!
The sword thrust out, piercing clean through its body.
The tip of the Earth Seal Sword pierced the Mutant's heart and protruded from its back, dripping with a thick, dark red blood.
The Mutant convulsed violently, its blood-red eyes bulging from their sockets.
'Hm? It's reacting. Could the Scroll be wrong?' Chu Qingyun wondered.
He could have used his Thunder Sword, which would have made it much easier to deal with this mutated creature. But Chu Qingyun wanted to test the true extent of the Mutant's power.
According to the Scroll, a Mutant's Life Power was exceptionally tenacious; sometimes, they wouldn't even die from a pierced brain.
But now, it seemed that wasn't the case.
"ROAR!!"
A moment later, the Mutant with the pierced heart let out an explosive roar, and blood-red Primordial Power surged from its body.
All the vines burst apart instantly.
Even the Martial Soul Illusion behind Chu Qingyun was blasted to pieces by the immense force, shattering with a BANG.
The blood-red Primordial Power mentioned in the Scroll had appeared!
Chu Qingyun remembered the creatures he had faced yesterday. They had been freshly infected, their skin color was no different from a human's, and they couldn't use Primordial Power.
But now, after only a single night, their power seemed to have grown stronger.
Not only had their skin turned dark red, but they were now able to use Primordial Power, and it too had mutated.
As the vines burst apart, Chu Qingyun immediately yanked out his Earth Seal Sword and beat a hasty retreat.
Two streams of dark red blood poured continuously from the front and back of the wound in the Mutant's chest.
It seemed completely unfazed, however. It flailed its arms, its tapered nails glowing with blood-red Primordial Power, making a series of sharp, scalp-numbing sounds as they sliced through the air.
With this sudden surge in power, the Mutant actually managed to overwhelm Chu Qingyun for a moment, leaving him flustered and in disarray.
Having its heart pierced seemed to have no effect on the Mutant whatsoever!
'This damned thing... It's really tough to deal with...'
"Thunder Sword!"
After fending off the attacks for a while, Chu Qingyun finally lost his patience. He unleashed the Thunder Sword. His Earth Seal Sword, now wreathed in tyrannical Thunder, blasted the Mutant.
CRACKLE! SIZZLE! POP!
The Thunder Power and the blood-red Primordial Power clashed violently, using the Mutant's body as their battlefield.
Blood-red light scattered as savage Thunder ran rampant.
After five or six seconds of intense struggle, the Thunder Power finally overpowered the blood-red Primordial Power, completely shattering it before crashing down upon the Mutant's body.
