Divine Beast Creator

Chapter 2527 - 2528: Strange Characteristics

"Mm, if we don’t follow, that’s a pretty big problem too. Unless we just ignore it, otherwise..."

Scanning his gaze over Qi Chen and the others, Feng Yuan said with a troubled look. Qi Chen and War Qichen might not be able to handle the forces the other side sends out, yet if they brought them along, the environment ahead would have quite a significant impact on them.

This environment was beyond Feng Yuan’s expectations; that soul-contaminating kind of environmental effect had become a tricky problem they were forced to face.

"How about temporarily adding some extra Shelter?"

Tamur circled around Feng Yuan once, flicked its tail, and the space beside Qi Chen and the others twisted; a faint phantom shadow enveloped them. Qi Chen quietly felt it for a moment and said,

"Seems like... it’s fine now."

"If anything feels off, speak up immediately. Don’t hold it in, or the consequences will be unpredictable."

Shooting a glance at Qi Chen, Feng Yuan warned sternly. There was no helping it—the influence of this space targeted the soul. Feng Yuan even suspected this influence was closer to pollution of the soul; if that was really the case, then things would be troublesome. If one was unaffected or only slightly affected, that was still manageable.

If the impact was severe, they might not be able to save someone afterward. This space was just too special; even Feng Yuan couldn’t say for sure how far that pollution went.

"Understood."

Seeing how serious Feng Yuan looked, Qi Chen answered solemnly. It seemed this matter wasn’t that simple. But given the current situation, they didn’t have any better options.

After a simple test, the group moved forward again, though this time their pace slowed significantly. Feng Yuan said he wouldn’t bother with it, yet he never relaxed his guard.

From time to time, Feng Yuan would turn his head to check on Qi Chen and the others. Veronia floated ahead to observe for a while and then said,

"Something feels a bit off. Even I seem to be faintly affected here."

At this point Veronia was already standing in a normal zone. Here, the effects of the previous explosion had completely vanished. Even so, in this place, Veronia found her emotions somewhat difficult to control.

"Mm, even you can’t handle it?"

Giving Veronia a look, Feng Yuan hurriedly checked on Qi Chen and the others, only to find that their condition was actually not bad.

"I used a Mythical Era Projection to isolate them from this space."

Tamur spoke to explain. Its methods were different from ordinary defensive means. Compared to a conventional Barrier, an era projection was a lot more fragile, but correspondingly, this thing had its advantages.

The existence of an era projection directly, rigidly separated two spaces. Or rather, that era projection was akin to a pseudo-world Barrier. Precisely because of this, Qi Chen and the others hadn’t felt anything abnormal along the way.

"Mm, we still need to be cautious. Qi Chen, you all fall back a bit for now and let him test it, how about that?"

"This..."

"Fine."

War Qichen agreed without hesitation. He didn’t think Feng Yuan was targeting him; he figured the other party was simply considering the bigger picture.

Veronia and the others weren’t in the equation, and on the Beast Tamer side, it was a bit tricky to run tests. Not because it was particularly troublesome, but because it was hard to draw conclusions. After all, humans didn’t have the massive Energy reserves inside Spirit Beasts, and their mental structures were also significantly different.

So they could only have humans run the test themselves—and that was the troublesome part. Feng Yuan definitely didn’t count, because he clearly wasn’t worried about this environment. That left only him, Qi Chen, and Dou Yanlan.

Their strength was far inferior to War Qichen’s, and this was an influence targeting emotions. War Qichen believed he’d seen more than Qi Chen; even if something unexpected happened, the likelihood of him being affected was still lower than Qi Chen’s.

"If anything goes wrong, say it immediately. Don’t act tough."

Feng Yuan reminded War Qichen, who was walking toward the boundary. Even though War Qichen wasn’t weak, in this kind of environment, strength didn’t count for much.

As he slowly approached and crossed that boundary, War Qichen didn’t feel anything abnormal. No—more accurately, those twisted objects could indeed stir up violent rage in his heart, but that was all. As long as he closed his eyes, those emotions would naturally dissipate quickly.

"No problem. Just be careful not to stare at the surroundings."

After testing for a while, War Qichen turned and shouted loudly to the others. Meeting his eyes, Feng Yuan’s lips curled slightly as he said,

"Looks like our luck’s not bad. Let’s go."

The rage-filled region wasn’t fixed. As they advanced, the degree of distortion in the surrounding objects became more and more intense, even producing many twisted shapes that gravely violated common sense.

Qi Chen and the others had no choice but to frequently open and close their eyes, using that to ease the interference those objects were exerting on them through their vision.

"This is..."

Narrowing his eyes slightly, Feng Yuan stared at the colossal DNA-like structure towering up to the sky and down to the ground in the distance and froze for a moment. What the hell was this bizarre thing, and where had it popped out from?

The strange blood-red DNA-like double helix slowly rotated. Even though the little bird hadn’t yet reached the endpoint, Feng Yuan had already guessed where the endpoint was.

"That thing looks really weird."

"It seems like... a genetic model?"

Dou Yanlan frowned slightly. This thing should belong to humans and ordinary animals, since Spirit Beasts’ genes didn’t share this structure. Of course, under normal circumstances, this sort of content wasn’t taught in school—at most it would be briefly mentioned, never explained in detail—so Qi Chen only knew this looked like genes, but didn’t understand the differences within.

"A gene model for non-spiritual-power organisms. It’s just that there’s no way to read what creature it belongs to."

Veronia said with a light chuckle. Rolling his eyes, Feng Yuan snapped,

"Who cares. Just seeing this thing here screams abnormal. Wait, you don’t know what this is?"

Casually glancing over the group, Feng Yuan noticed War Qichen’s expression was a bit off. Did he not understand this thing?

"Does this bizarre shape have some special meaning?"

War Qichen gave a slight nod. Qi Chen and Dou Yanlan were both stunned; they really hadn’t expected War Qichen not to recognize this. In their minds, the world War Qichen came from was a few years ahead of the real world.

"You never did any research on biological structures? Makes sense. In those circumstances, the odds of anyone studying this stuff were indeed pretty low."

Lightly pinching his chin, Feng Yuan didn’t find it strange. The War timeline was too unusual; researching genes was the sort of thing that only happened during peacetime, unless someone had some very particular idea in mind.

After all, turning this stuff into weapons wasn’t that easy, and genetic weapons also faced compatibility issues.

That’s right—compatibility. Human and Spirit Beast genes were completely unrelated structures. Even in the real world, there weren’t many people studying this area, and as for the Spirit Beast side, that was practically a forbidden zone. Even if the Divine Beasts hadn’t explicitly banned it, that research direction had an extremely high chance of stepping on landmines, so very few dared to dabble in it.

"It might be a bit hasty, but your reaction makes me believe this probably doesn’t have much to do with the War Timeline. Forget it, let’s hurry over and see what’s actually going on."

As he spoke, Feng Yuan quickly ran toward the target. As expected, the little bird’s final landing point was on that blood-red DNA model.

"A pure Energy Body with no structure that directly interacts with reality. Its external form is unreadable, and it pierces straight into the Time River. So it is another time tributary, huh?"

Looking up at the point where the end of the DNA model vanished, Feng Yuan spoke. His tracking efforts reached their limit here. Beyond the scope of the main timeline, that tracking method wasn’t much use.

"Ruling out the War Timeline, that means this thing is very likely related to The Imperial Timeline."

Dou Yanlan analyzed. After a brief silence, Feng Yuan said,

"Let’s enter the Time River and take a look."

"Tamur, I’ll have to trouble you."

In theory, Tamur had the ability to take people into the Time River. However, in essence, it wasn’t a Time Divine Beast, so the difficulty was nothing to sneeze at.

"I’ll give it a try."

Understanding what Feng Yuan meant, Tamur didn’t agree outright, because it wasn’t sure it could do what Feng Yuan expected. What’s more, in this place its power was heavily restricted; whenever it tried to break through the surrounding distance limit, it felt as if this space was about to expel it.

Constantly adjusting, Tamur did its best to attempt it. Just as Feng Yuan was about to speak up and call it off, a blood-red light burst from Tamur’s body and enveloped everyone.

The surrounding environment gradually warped. Had they successfully reached the Time River?
