Inside the hidden obsidian flying palace, the numerous hallways and the grand hall were eerily silent.
Evelynn woke up groggily, finding no one by her side. She wondered where Davis went but held her head as her third eye throbbed with pain. Evidently, she had overexerted herself using the Hell Poison Gem’s replica. Even the usage left her with somewhat of a mental scar on her psyche.
She imagined it would take a few months for it to heal unless Davis had his ways.
She checked her surroundings again and saw that no one was really here. It was strange, considering Davis wouldn’t usually leave her alone in an unfamiliar place, as he would be too worried to do anything else.
’Unless it’s one of his trials to train my mental fortitude...’
She thought but shook her head, knowing that he wouldn’t try something like that at this moment.
She was about to get up from the bed as she pulled aside the bedsheet that he had thrown. She smiled lightly while doing it, faintly remembering him shoving his head into her bosom. Although she had her eyes closed and was out of it, her third eye kept a vague record of the subconscious, and Davis doing that was one of her favorites, as she always loved to smother him, so she couldn’t be mistaken.
Just as she moved her legs to get up, the lanterns in the room started flickering strangely.
Her heart instantly clenched as she put herself on guard.
She sent her soul sense out of her forehead, but the palace ores were too heavy for her to use her soul sense. She used her soul force to open the door and push the soul sense further.
Lanterns flickered as the sound of footsteps echoed across the hall.
The footsteps even made weirded squelching noises as though they had stepped on a puddle.
"..."
Evelynn stopped using her soul sense and took out the Hell Poison Gem as she gazed at the door.
At this moment, a dragon-horned lady appeared in her view, standing outside the door.
"Oh, you’re awake."
Seeing that it was Lereza, Evelynn’s guard went up even more as she hurriedly raised her hand and looked as though she was going to summon whatever hell poison that was left.
After all, the Lereza by the door was a flying corpse with half her body torn apart and her entire upper body bloodied as though she was flayed alive! And the one who spoke possessed the voice of a man, one she wasn’t entirely unfamiliar with as she had heard it just a while ago.
"Lere-za..." Evelynn clenched her teeth as fear, anger, and sorrow swelled within her.
Images of the dead bodies of Laphria and the others surfaced in her mind. She could see them lying in their own blood puddle, having died without knowing what hit them.
Her heart screamed for Davis, but she couldn’t find him even with her third eye. But before she could do anything, the Hell Poison Gem firmly refused her commands and began trembling, starting to slip away from her hands before it rushed towards the door and got captured by a hand extending out from the side.
When that person stepped forward, a fierce grin spread over his lips as he cast a glance at Evelynn.
"Your husband shouldn’t have offended me."
"Hell Hydra Monarch..."
Evelynn’s face went pale, her heart sinking to her depths as suddenly an entire pressure descended and crushed her to meat paste.
"Ahhh!"
Bedsheets flew into the air as Evelynn shot up from the bed.
"Mistress! What happened!?"
Lereza rose from her reading session as she threw the book aside and flew towards Evelynn to catch her mid-air. Wrapping her arms around Evelynn gently while risking getting pierced by those poisonous scythes, she descended.
Meanwhile, Evelynn’s hysterical and expression filled with terror receded as she quickly regained herself.
Stuffed within Lereza’s embrace, she felt safe and realized she had just been fooled by a dream.
Once they landed on the bed, Lereza still held Evelynn, reassuring her that everything was fine and that there was no danger.
Evelynn took a few moments to consider which one was the dream before she inwardly sighed. If this was the dream, she supposed she was already dead or captured. She had witnessed Laphria’s illusions once before and was full of awe since it was practically indistinguishable from reality.
After all, Laphria’s illusions were more tangible than intangible. They practically imposed themselves on the world.
She smiled wryly and hugged Lereza, "I’m glad you’re safe, sweet child."
"I’m not a child~" Lereza pouted before letting go of Evelynn and descending to get back to her sofa.
Once she sat, she pulled the reading material to her before asking, "What’s wrong? Had a bad dream?"
"..."
"If you don’t want to say it, that’s fine. I had a lot of those- from the times my father and mother were hunted down, and I was a child- but I’ll warn you, I’m no longer a child. You don’t need to worry about this. I’m old enough to- old enough to-!"
She said no more; her cheeks turned red.
Evelynn lightly smiled before she got down and sat before her. She gently shook her head.
"It was a nightmare, but not one that happened. The Hell Hydra Monarch was here and killed every single one of you here and finally came to me to take the replica."
"Ah..." Lereza placed her hands over her mouth, looking dumbfounded.
Such a dream would surely cause anyone to wet their pants.
However, her eyes quickly turned solemn, "That’s strange. Cultivators of our level don’t dream easily, and when they have a nightmare for no apparent reason, like past traumas, it’s usually a case of being attacked mentally or pulled into an illusory dream attack. Considering you emptied out your soul force by using the replica and further overexerted yourself while facing that powerful Evilbane Hexweaver Arachnid and the Hell Hydra Monarch, it’s only normal, but it’s entirely possible that they left some kind of mental scar on you."
"You mean to say the Hell Hydra Monarch had left some kind of mark on me?"
"That’s impossible. The two of you never came to exchange blows, and master defended you perfectly. I saw it; he was so cool!- Hehem, I mean, even the Celestial Transcendent helped you. If someone left a mental scar, it could only be that Evilbane Hexweaver Arachnid that opened a portal to the Asura Dimension with your third eye. Am I wrong?"
"..." Evelynn went silent but shook her head, indicating that she wasn’t wrong.
That Evilbane Hexweaver Arachnid was too powerful; far more than bloodline constraints limited it due to the distinct Laws of the Asura Dimension.
She guessed that if it was a mental scar from the Evilbane Hexweaver Arachnid, it didn’t make sense for it to show the Hell Hydra Monarch.
Was it that cunning...?
As she wondered, she heard Lereza continue.
"But it doesn’t necessarily mean that one of the two left a mental scar. You’re a practitioner of Hex Laws, and hex goes deep into karma. Since you have formed karma between those two entities, it’s entirely possible your subconscious or your pure bloodline is warning you of impending danger."
"Impending danger... that means..." Evelynn blinked.
Lereza shot up, holding her head as her expression went awry, "No way... it can’t be that the Hell Hydra Monarch found our hiding place, right!?"
Evelynn was unsure, "Well, he did say at the end that husband shouldn’t have offended him and then stole the replica from me before crushing me to death..."
"No, no... we need to move... need to move... We can’t face something like that...! I have no idea how master was able to move while facing him...! Couldn’t master sense the absolute pressure from the Hell Hydra Monarch that makes one despair? How arrogant could master be that he convinced himself that he could go toe to toe against a full-fledged, supreme ruler Paragon Magical Beast...!? Even if that Hydra was suppressed, it’s still a true body...! Who knows what kind of methods it has to ruin us...!"
Lereza walked around hurriedly in circles, panicking before she stormed out.
"..."
Evelynn blinked.
Certainly, she couldn’t do anything when the Hell Hydra Monarch showed up and tried to steal the Hell Poison Gem’s replica.
The overwhelming pressure was so terrifying that she had nearly fainted.
Perhaps only a beast could feel the true despair, and as a fey, she might be prone to it, but she didn’t feel that was the case since she had seen other humans freeze in terror as well. Clearly, Davis’s Enigmatic Will had become extraordinary even since he comprehended Level Three Obscure Intent of Enigmatic Heart Laws.
Soon, Lereza came with Laphria, and the three of them discussed leaving first.
But before they could even start discussing, something tripped one of their traps in the hidden illusory space, making their hearts clench.
