Chapter 547: Chapter 547: Mika Summers VS Tristan Grayson (47)

In terms of manpower, Archie Lockwood was at a clear disadvantage.

He had only brought his five personal bodyguards, including Howard Rhodes, while Jason Lockwood’s side was a massive, dark throng of at least thirty men.

The key difference, however, was that Jason Lockwood’s side had no handguns. Meanwhile, Howard Rhodes and the four other bodyguards, along with Archie Lockwood—six men in total—all held guns, steadily pressing forward.

The moment Jason Lockwood entered the hall, his men automatically parted to form a path.

Archie Lockwood watched him approach, the corners of his lips curling into a sarcastic smile. "Jason Lockwood, you wanted the files from my investigation, didn’t you? I can give them to you, but you must let me see the Old Master and Rory. Now."

"Archie Lockwood, I’m surprised you were so quick," Jason Lockwood said, strolling toward him with his hands in his pockets. "Give me the files, and of course you’ll get to see the people you want to see."

"You’re mistaken," Archie countered. "It’s not about *seeing* the people I want to see, it’s about *taking* them with me. As for the files, I can’t give them to you now. I’ll only hand them over after my men have safely escorted the Old Master and Rory away."

"Heh." Jason Lockwood dipped his head, a mocking smile playing on his lips. When he looked up, the smile was gone, his expression utterly grim. "Archie Lockwood, you’ve really thought this through, haven’t you? But do you remember our call from a few hours ago? I said you could trade the files to get someone back. I never specified *who* you could take... or who you’d have to abandon." ’He hadn’t gone to all this trouble kidnapping the Old Master and Rory just to get his hands on some files...’

"Jason Lockwood, what the hell do you want! I’m already here, what more could you possibly want?" Archie roared, aiming the dark muzzle of his gun squarely at Jason’s head.

’It’s just one investigation file. If I hand the hostages over, who’s to say he won’t just start digging into it all over again?’ He couldn’t allow another blemish on his record, and he certainly didn’t want what happened back then to be exposed.

’Archie Lockwood thinks he’s so clever. He thinks that by digging up the past, he can bring me to justice. But Archie forgot one thing: I, Jason Lockwood, have no weaknesses for anyone to exploit. Archie, on the other hand, is full of them. Just look at today...’

"Jason Lockwood, you have a death wish!" Archie’s finger tightened on the trigger. He fought back the urge to put a bullet in Jason’s head, his voice a low, furious snarl.

"I’m not giving you everyone until I have what I want," Jason said. Facing the dark muzzle of the gun, he showed not a shred of fear. In fact, one might even say he was eager, excited.

’He was eager for a face-to-face confrontation with Archie, thrilled that Archie would never, ever be able to get the better of him. This was the kind of scene he lived for: Archie, on the verge of success, only for all his recent efforts to be ruined at the last second by one of Jason’s little tricks!’

’Yes, this was exactly the kind of outcome he loved. He loved to see Archie backed into a corner from which he could never, ever escape.’

"What else do you want?" Archie’s heart plunged into a pit of despair and panic.

’The Old Master and Rory... He couldn’t afford to gamble with their lives...’

"Erase every last trace of what happened all those years ago! Remember—all of it!"

"Heh—" ’All of it? Don’t murderers have to pay for their crimes? In Jason Lockwood’s world, was taking a life really that simple?’
