’Did his mother have to die in vain? After suffering injustice for so many years?’
’He couldn’t accept it! He absolutely couldn’t! He had returned to the Lockwood Family not just to protect his family, but more importantly, to avenge his mother. Yet he was still so weak. He still couldn’t win against Jason Lockwood!’
Jason Lockwood walked toward Archie Lockwood step by step, the mockery in his eyes irrepressible. "You’ve only been back in the Lockwood Family for a few years. I, on the other hand, have lived here for over twenty. Archie Lockwood, if you want to fight me, to go against me, your methods are far too naive."
"Heh—" This derisive laugh was clearly not aimed at Jason Lockwood, but at himself. He was laughing at himself for overestimating his own abilities, for being so unprepared, for failing to protect his family.
"Fine. I’ll agree. I’ll give you the data and erase all traces. But I want you to release the Old Master and Rory immediately." As he spoke, Archie Lockwood pressed the muzzle of his gun directly between Jason Lockwood’s eyebrows.
Jason Lockwood sneered, unhurriedly raising a hand to push the gun away. "Relax. The Old Master is my father, too, after all. At this point, he’s probably already been ’invited’ home to rest and recuperate. As long as you do a clean job, you can pick him up tomorrow."
"—" Archie Lockwood said nothing, instead lowering the hand that tightly gripped the pistol.
Jason Lockwood turned and ordered the man behind him, Rory’s so-called stepfather, "Go bring Rory over."
"Yes, sir."
Having received his orders, the man turned and walked toward the elevators without a moment’s hesitation.
Back in the office’s break room, Jasmine Warren noted that Jason Lockwood had been gone for a while and it had grown quiet outside. Mustering her courage, she came out, holding Rory in her arms.
She had just quietly opened the break room door and hadn’t even reached the main office entrance when it was suddenly pushed open from the outside. Rory’s so-called stepfather walked in. With a cold, grim expression, he strode over and snatched Rory right out of Jasmine Warren’s arms. "Miss Warren, I’m here to take her," he stated simply, tossing the words out casually.
Held by the bad man, Rory was so scared she burst into loud wails.
The man, however, acted as if he neither saw nor heard her, and just walked out of the office with Rory in his arms.
Seeing this, Jasmine Warren, filled with anxiety, chased after them. "Hey! Can’t you see how upset she is? Can’t you at least try to comfort her before you go?"
But there was no way the man would listen to Jasmine Warren; he was in a rush to get downstairs.
Even as Jasmine Warren watched the man get on the elevator and the doors slide shut, she could still hear the little princess’s cries.
Her sobs were utterly heartbreaking.
She had never felt her heart ache so much for a child before. They had only been together for a short while, but she was already in agony for her.
She didn’t care if there was still a commotion happening downstairs. She ran toward the elevators, and seeing the display show it was heading for the first-floor lobby, Jasmine Warren decided to take the stairs.
Besides, she had always preferred taking the stairs, so she ran for the stairwell without a second thought.
Meanwhile, in the lobby, the atmosphere was incredibly tense.
Archie Lockwood and Jason Lockwood stood motionless, staring each other down.
A few minutes later, the elevator doors opened, and Rory’s cries spilled out. At the sound, Archie Lockwood was the first to react. He shoved the insufferable Jason Lockwood aside and rushed toward Rory...
