Chapter 607: Chapter 605: Being Magnanimous

He was absolutely kicking himself. How could he have believed his wife when she said she was fine last night? She had thrown up all night, which was heartbreaking enough, but now she had started again without even eating a single bite of food today.

’What if it’s a serious illness? We can’t afford any delays.’ At this thought, Tristan Grayson’s expression grew grim. He poured a glass of water and went to Mika Summers’s side, helping her rinse her mouth. Only when the pained look on her face subsided did he say urgently, "We can’t let you keep throwing up like this. Let’s go to the hospital."

Mika Summers had never been this sick before. She was utterly drained of strength. The moment she stood up, she collapsed into Tristan Grayson’s arms. In a soft, coquettish voice, she murmured, "Honey, I feel like I’m about to float away."

"Sweetheart, just hang in there. We’re going to the hospital right now." Her words seized Tristan Grayson’s heart in a vice grip. He bent down, swept the woman into his arms, and strode outside.

"Do you think I have some kind of terminal illness?" She was actually quite hungry, but for some reason, her stomach had started to churn the moment she’d taken two bites.

Since there was nothing left in her stomach, all she could do was hunch over and bring up a bit of stomach acid.

"Silly girl, don’t say such things!" Her words sent a tremor through Tristan Grayson’s heart, and he couldn’t help but quicken his pace.

On the way, Tristan Grayson called Aiden Avery and told him to arrange for staff to be ready for Mika Summers’s examination immediately.

When Aiden Avery heard the urgency in his voice, he assumed something terrible had happened to Mika Summers. He immediately pulled the hospital’s top surgeon away from the operating table.

That particular surgery, once begun, couldn’t be stopped for at least five or six hours. So, Aiden Avery took advantage of the fact that the surgeon hadn’t started yet to swap him out with someone else.

By the time Tristan Grayson pulled up, a team of doctors and nurses was already waiting at the hospital entrance, prepared for an emergency resuscitation.

But no one expected the "patient" to not only seem fine but also get out of the car on her own. This left everyone a bit stunned.

Aiden Avery, unlike the other doctors, rushed forward to support Mika Summers as soon as he saw her get out of the car. "What happened?" he asked urgently. Then, he moved to lift her onto a gurney.

Tristan Grayson was already out of the car. He strode over, shoved Aiden Avery aside, bent down to scoop up Mika Summers, and marched into the hospital.

The doctors and nurses all stared at Aiden Avery, completely baffled. He waved a hand in exasperation. "Well? Follow them."

"Oh, right."

The group hurried after Tristan Grayson, heading straight for the ninth floor.

They started by giving Mika Summers a full physical, followed by blood tests, an ultrasound, and more. Basically, they examined her from head to toe.

Tristan Grayson’s demand was for a complete and thorough examination! ’My wife’s constitution is too weak,’ he thought. ’I need to build up her health, and any problem we find has to be treated immediately.’

’It needs to be completely rooted out. Otherwise, if something like this happens again, the heartache and fright will kill me.’

About an hour later, with all the tests completed, Mika Summers lay in a hospital bed on an IV drip. Seeing Tristan Grayson’s grim expression, she comforted him gently, "Come on, don’t worry. I’m not that fragile. It’s not like I’m going to drop dead."

"There you go again with that nonsense. You need to remember: no more talking about dying. From now on, I’ll kiss you every time I hear you say it."

"Hmph. Shameless." ’He always uses kisses to threaten me,’ she grumbled to herself. ’If we weren’t in public, we’d see who’s afraid!’

"That’s right, I’m shameless. And you’re my wife, after all." Seeing his wife’s pouty expression, Tristan Grayson’s heart completely melted.

Just as they were speaking, the door to the room opened. It was Aiden Avery.

Seeing Aiden Avery, Mika Summers quickly gave Tristan Grayson a little push, then asked with an embarrassed smile, "Avery, what are the results? Did the doctors say what’s wrong with me? Is it because I ate that cold meal?"

Aiden Avery couldn’t stand Tristan Grayson’s smug expression, especially after the scare he’d gotten earlier. So, he put on a solemn face and nodded. "If you want to stay healthy, you definitely can’t eat cold meals anymore."

"Huh? What do you mean? Is my condition that serious?"

Aiden Avery’s words had clearly startled Tristan Grayson as well. He shot to his feet and demanded sharply, "Spit it out. What is it?"

"Well, you could say it’s serious, but you could also say it’s not."

Tristan’s face was grim. He abruptly cut Aiden off. "That’s enough. Let’s talk outside."

Hearing that they were about to discuss it without her, Mika Summers felt tears welling up in her eyes. Hurt but resolute, she said quickly, "You don’t have to hide it from me. Even if I really do have a terminal illness, you don’t need to be so secretive. Just say it."

"Nonsense! How could you possibly have a terminal illness? I forbid you from saying such things!" Tristan Grayson snapped, turning to meet her stubborn gaze.

"Ahem! You two haven’t even let me finish reading the report. How did you jump to a terminal illness?" Aiden Avery fixed his handsome eyes on Tristan Grayson, his expression filled with undisguised scorn.

"Avery, what’s really wrong with me?"

Aiden steadied himself, glanced down at the test results, and said casually, "It’s actually nothing major. You’re just a little anemic. You just need to go home and build up your strength with some proper nutrition."

"You bastard! Why didn’t you just say so!" Tristan Grayson finally breathed a sigh of relief. But a moment later, it dawned on him that this bastard Aiden had just been messing with them. At the thought, he clenched his fist, ready to swing it at the son of a bitch.

But just as his fist was halfway there, Aiden changed his tune. "Of course," he added, "the vomiting wasn’t caused by the anemia."

Sure enough, Tristan Grayson froze mid-swing. He glared at Aiden. "Stop beating around the bush and spit it out!"

Aiden gave a deliberately awkward cough, rubbed his nose, and then looked up at Mika Summers with a completely straight face. "To be precise... congratulations. You’re going to be parents again."

"..."

After he spoke, a long moment passed. Then another. Aiden saw no reaction from the couple.

Mika Summers, in particular, seemed to have been petrified, staring at him motionlessly.

Tristan Grayson wasn’t much better. His eyes were fixed on Mika Summers’s belly, as if he wished he had X-ray vision to get a clear look at the little one inside.

But after the initial joy passed, he remembered something Mika Summers had told him before they were married.

They had agreed they only wanted one child in their lives: Kiki. So now, Tristan Grayson was at a complete loss. ’Should I just tell my wife that Kiki is enough for us? Or should I beg her to have this baby?’

But more than the baby, Tristan Grayson valued his relationship with his wife. He would respect Mika Summers’s choice.
