Divorce, Please: The Young Master Does Not Love Me
Chapter 606 - 604: NitpickingChapter 606: Chapter 604: Nitpicking
Mika felt incredibly guilty, thinking about how she had slept until now and was making Ms. Warren come all this way just to cook for her. "Yes, Ms. Warren, I’m so sorry to trouble you. It’s already hard enough cooking for his parents every day, and now you have to make a special trip over here."
"It’s no trouble, no trouble at all. Mr. Grayson called and said you weren’t feeling well, didn’t he? If you’re unwell, you certainly need someone to look after you. He said you were throwing up all last night. Are you still feeling uncomfortable anywhere?"
"No, no, Ms. Warren, please don’t worry. Besides, it’s not as serious as Tristan made it sound. I only threw up two or three times."
Evidently, Tristan Grayson overheard her and was quite displeased. He looked up at her and quietly held up four fingers on his left hand, as if to tell her he wasn’t exaggerating. ’It was clearly four times!’ But even two or three times was more than enough to scare him half to death and make his heart ache for her. If she hadn’t stopped him from taking her to the hospital last night, he would have already rushed Mika there by now.
Mika plopped down next to Tristan Grayson, crossed her arms, and ignored him. ’He’s so nitpicky. Is there really a difference between four times and two or three?’
"Sigh. You young people are just so careless about your meals," Ms. Warren said, not noticing the couple’s little spat and completely unaware they were having a tiff. She patiently continued her advice. "No matter how good the food you buy outside is, it’s never as clean as a home-cooked meal. From now on, you should go over to his parents’ for dinner. After all, his mother and father are always thinking about you two."
"It’s not that we don’t want to eat at their place," Mika explained. "It’s just that their house is too far from both of our offices. The round trip takes at least an hour and a half, and that’s not even counting the time we’d spend actually eating."
"Hmm, I suppose that’s true. Sigh... If he’d known, Mr. Grayson should have bought an apartment near the office."
"..." Tristan Grayson was speechless; it was a difficult situation to explain. They had an apartment in Regalia Fields, but after discussing it together, he and Mika had let his parents live there. For one, the location was excellent, surrounded by large shopping malls, which made it convenient for shopping and errands. For another, the apartment held too many unpleasant memories, so Mika would absolutely never agree to move back in.
There were, in fact, places available near the office, but there weren’t any new developments. Any apartment they bought there would be secondhand.
And of course, they weren’t willing to live in a secondhand home.
Mika didn’t really mind, but Tristan Grayson would never allow her to settle for a home that someone else had already lived in.
When he thought it all through, any apartment that would satisfy them was basically outside the city center, in the suburbs along the ring road. The drive would take over forty minutes. With that much travel time, he and his wife might as well just go to his parents’ house.
After Ms. Warren spoke, a long silence followed. When the young couple didn’t reply, she suddenly realized she’d been talking far too much today.
She tactfully fell silent, dished the food onto serving plates, and let out a small sigh of relief before carrying the meal out of the kitchen.
Seeing this, Mika quickly got up to help Ms. Warren with the dishes, but a hand shot out and grabbed her arm. "You rest. I’ll go."
"I’m not that weak," Mika pouted, shaking her head unhappily.
Tristan Grayson’s handsome brows furrowed as he spoke sharply, "Listen to me!"
’And she claims she’s not weak,’ he thought. ’Her face is shades paler than normal.’
Seeing Tristan Grayson’s insistence, she could only sit back down obediently.
Ms. Warren had stir-fried green peppers with bok choy, scrambled eggs with tomato, braised eggplant, shredded pork with green peppers, and sliced pork with shiitake mushrooms. In addition, she had specially prepared chicken soup for Mika.
Tristan Grayson went to help carry the food, but Ms. Warren would never let him do the work. She filled two bowls with rice and only then cautiously allowed Tristan to take them. She absolutely refused to let him touch any of the other dishes.
This left Tristan Grayson standing to the side, fuming but unable to speak. ’So now the entire family is treating me like an invalid,’ he thought.
Even when he spent time with his son, the boy was always deliberately careful around his right hand, terrified that his father might hurt it again.
After placing the rice bowls on the dining table, he walked straight to the sofa. Before Mika could even get up, he bent down and swept her into his arms, bridal style.
He completely ignored the fact that they had a guest. Of course, he had his own selfish motive: he wanted to prove that although his hand was injured, he was no invalid. Carrying his wife was absolutely effortless.
Ms. Warren, who was just coming out of the kitchen with the chicken soup, walked right into the mortifying scene. The corner of her eye twitched, and the smile on her face froze.
Mika’s face flushed crimson as she struggled to get down, but Tristan Grayson held her tight and threatened in a low, stern voice, "If you don’t behave, do you want to bet I’ll kiss you right now?"
As expected, the threat worked. Mika didn’t dare move another inch, obediently letting Tristan Grayson place her in a chair.
She thought that once Tristan Grayson put her in the chair, he would settle down. But to her surprise, Tristan sat right next to her, pulled her bowl and chopsticks over, and then looked down at her right hand, which was resting in her lap. He reached out, gently took her small hand, and placed the chopsticks in it. "Weren’t you hungry?" he asked softly. "Go on, eat."
With that, he picked up his own chopsticks, snagged a bit of the scrambled eggs with tomato, and placed it in her bowl.
Famished and weak, Mika no longer had the energy to worry about being shy. She mumbled a soft "okay" and lowered her head to eat.
But after just two bites, she remembered Ms. Warren was still there. She looked up and gave her an embarrassed smile. "Ms. Warren, please sit down and eat with us."
"No, thank you. It’s still early, so I’ll head home. That way, I can still make dinner for my own family."
Mika thought for a moment before adding, "Thank you for all your hard work, Ms. Warren. Next time, if Tristan asks you to come over, please refuse him. Really, cooking is a small task that I can handle myself."
"It’s no hardship, not at all. It’s all part of my job." ’After all,’ she thought, ’with the salary she was earning, she was more than happy to make a few extra trips.’
The moment Ms. Warren was gone, the smile on Mika’s face vanished. She pushed her bowl and chopsticks away and said in a pained, urgent voice, "I need to use the restroom."
Without another word, she bolted for the restroom. The door SLAMMED shut, and a moment later, the sound of retching could be heard from inside.
Tristan Grayson couldn’t have ignored it even if he’d tried. He was already worried sick, so when he heard Mika throwing up again, he couldn’t stay in his seat. His expression grim, he rushed anxiously toward the restroom.
When he reached the door, he could hear the sound of running water. He unlocked it and went in to find Mika hunched over the toilet, retching, while the sink faucet was still running full blast.
