Chapter 614: Chapter 610: Pulling Up by the Roots

"Tristan, be honest with me. Does my position make things difficult for you?" ’All this time, I’d never thought my status was anything out of the ordinary. I’m the boss of Sovereign and Tristan Grayson’s wife—the two aren’t mutually exclusive. But what Ian Shaw just said has me overthinking things.’

’No man wants to be outranked by his wife, and I’m sure Tristan is no different. I know full well how domineering and chauvinistic he used to be.’

"No." Tristan’s focus wavered for a moment before he shook his head firmly in denial.

’Yeah, right,’ she thought, seeing his expression. But she didn’t want to press the issue. After a moment, she came up with a plan. She looked up at Tristan and asked seriously, "Tristan, how much money do you have on hand right now?"

Tristan gazed at Mika. Though he didn’t know why she was suddenly asking, he answered honestly. "I’m the richest man in the country, after all. How could I be the richest man if I didn’t have at least a few tens of billions on hand?"

’Tens of billions?’ Mika couldn’t help but start coughing.

Seeing her coughing so hard, Tristan quickly reached out to pat her on the back, muttering complainingly, "Darling, can you please have a little more composure? It’s just tens of billions. In fact, my total assets are more than enough to last our grandchildren a lifetime."

"Total assets? Tristan, you’d better tell me the truth. Just how much money do you have?"

Tristan pulled a checkbook from his inner jacket pocket, placed it on the table, and let out a cool snort. "Write any amount you want. As long as you can write the number, I can cover it."

"Tristan Grayson! If I remember correctly, when we got divorced, you only gave me one hundred million!" And over just that one hundred million, he had tormented her relentlessly, making her life a living hell. ’And now he’s telling me I can write any amount I want?’

’Just how much money does he have? How can I be his wife and know so little about the man right in front of me?’

At the mention of that one hundred million, the expression on Tristan’s face soured. He looked as if he’d committed a heinous crime. He pleaded in a low, placating tone, "Darling, I admit I was wrong back then. Can we... please never bring it up again?"

"No!" Mika cut him off, her expression stern.

’This is my chance to find out just how rich he is. I’d be a complete idiot not to press this.’

Although Tristan knew Mika was probably up to something, he had no intention of foiling her plan. Instead, he played along. "Then tell me. What will it take for you to forgive me and never bring this up again?"

This was the exact opening Mika had been waiting for. ’Even though we’re married, our finances have always been separate. I have no idea what his actual situation is.’ "It’s simple," she said. "We both withdraw funds at the same time and transfer them into our son’s name."

"You don’t have to worry about that. I already made arrangements long before Kiki was born." To be precise, he had made those plans after the first time he and Mika slept together.

"I even had a contract drawn up. However, it only takes effect once Kiki becomes an adult."

Mika frowned in thought for a moment before saying in a heavy tone, "Right now at Sovereign, the shares I’m holding are Silas Kent’s, while the ones you have are the shares that originally belonged to me. Tristan, if you have the money, I want you to buy all of my current shares." ’I’m so glad I transferred my own Sovereign shares to our son’s name before I left. I don’t care about being left with nothing; I only care that my family might suffer because of me.’

"What are you planning to do?" Tristan seemed to realize what she was getting at. His heart gave a slight flutter as he asked, concerned.

"Tristan, I’ll be honest with you. I can’t bring myself to confront Jasmine right now. That’s why I want you to buy out all my shares. If anything happens to the company, you can all pin the blame on me. That way, it’ll be my mismanagement and have nothing to do with you or anyone else. I’m sure the heads of the subsidiary companies wouldn’t dare to say much to you then."

Tristan gripped Mika’s hand tightly, his refusal firm and sharp. "Absolutely not. You’re my wife. We’re supposed to go through thick and thin together. How could I throw all the responsibility onto you at the first sign of trouble?"

But Mika shook her head stubbornly. "Tristan, if you want to help me, then use your money to acquire as many shares in the other subsidiaries as you can. And I also need you and Ian to create a facade."

"A facade?"

"Tristan, I know Jasmine very well. She has a fiery temper; there’s no way she could have come up with such a complex scheme on her own. For instance, shortly after Jason Lockwood was imprisoned and I got married, Jasmine just sent me the photos and information directly. When I called her, her tone was very aggressive."

"But today? I came to work and I clearly saw Jasmine among the employees who stood up, but she acted like she didn’t see me. That’s not the Jasmine Warren I know."

"And the security footage... how could Jasmine possibly have destroyed that on her own?"

"You suspect someone is helping her?" Tristan suddenly realized what she was implying, and his tone grew colder.

"Yes. So, we need to sort out the company’s entire shareholding structure as quickly as possible. You and Ian Shaw will handle that. I’ll keep an eye on Jasmine."

"Okay. But wanting to take all the responsibility yourself? That’s impossible. Darling, don’t ever forget that we’re a married couple." ’We could just call the police and be done with it, but she’s choosing the worst possible method. Even though I’m a little frustrated, if she doesn’t want to take it that far, I have to support her.’

’But this works too. I’d like to see just who is pulling the strings for Jasmine Warren. It would be best to uproot them all at once and destroy them completely.’

"I haven’t forgotten. It’s just that one of us has to take the fall. If we both take the blame, I’m worried the heads of the subsidiaries won’t listen to you anymore."

"I’d like to see them try!"

Hearing Tristan’s typically unreasonable and domineering words, Mika couldn’t help but laugh. "You should head back to the office. I’ll be fine here."

"No, I’m still worried. How about I call Lily Shaw to come and help you?" ’There’s no one here I can trust. It’d be a miracle if I wasn’t worried.’

"Alright." ’I don’t know Lily Shaw very well, and I don’t want to be a bother, but I also don’t want Tristan to worry about me.’
