Chapter 687: Chapter 679: Incompatible

The four of them traveled in silence.

About ten minutes later, they arrived at a restaurant.

Leo Joyce, who was in a terrible mood, immediately ordered two bottles of strong liquor.

Since Archie Lockwood was the designated driver, he didn’t drink with Leo Joyce.

Leo Joyce sat there, silently downing one glass after another as if it were nothing but water.

He had already finished over half a bottle before all the dishes had even been served.

At the rate he was downing the liquor, two bottles probably wouldn’t be enough.

Archie Lockwood hadn’t stopped Leo Joyce from drinking because he wanted to see how Tiana Grayson would react. If she was worried about Leo’s health, she would surely intervene. That was why Archie had let Leo keep drinking. But after Leo downed over half a bottle of the strong liquor and Tiana Grayson was still sitting there as if nothing was wrong, Archie couldn’t hold back any longer. "That’s enough. Drink a little less."

Leo Joyce didn’t even glance at Archie Lockwood, simply continuing to pour himself another drink.

Archie Lockwood sighed in resignation and turned to Tiana Grayson. "Tiana, you try to talk to him."

"Stop drinking."

Beneath the table, Tiana Grayson’s hands were clenched into tight fists. After a long moment, she finally relaxed them and reached out to take the glass from Leo Joyce’s hand. But he held on with a death grip, refusing to let her succeed. He then looked up, a sneer on his face, and said in a cold, mocking tone, "Heh, what am I to you? What right do you have to tell me what to do? The only woman who gets to tell me what to do is *my* woman."

His words made Tiana freeze on the spot. Her expression turned grim, and she hastily pulled her hand back.

Seeing her reaction, the sneer on Leo Joyce’s face grew more pronounced. "Since you’re not my woman, you have no right to tell me what to do."

Tiana Grayson forced a bitter smile. ’He’s right. What right do I have to tell him what to do?’

She grabbed the other unopened bottle of liquor from the table, twisted off the cap, poured some into a glass, and took a large gulp. The burning sensation choked her, and she broke into a painful fit of coughing. "COUGH, COUGH, COUGH..."

At the sound of her coughing, Leo Joyce’s heart leaped into his throat. He turned to see Tiana’s face flushed scarlet from choking on the drink. A pang of regret and heartache shot through him as he snatched the glass from her hands. While patting her back with one hand, he snapped angrily, "If you can’t drink, then don’t! Nobody’s forcing you!"

’No one’s forcing me,’ she thought. ’I just figured if I drank some, he would drink a little less.’

But Tiana Grayson couldn’t find the courage to say those words out loud.

’The more I try not to lose my pride in front of him, the more I mess everything up.’

’I can’t even take a sip of liquor without choking like this.’

’Someone like me... I really don’t belong in his world.’

’I’m not Amelia Avery. I can’t do the things she can do.’

’Amelia Avery can down two bottles of strong liquor and still be standing, but I can’t even handle a single gulp.’

As this thought crossed her mind, she fought back tears and defiantly snatched the glass back from Leo Joyce’s hand. "You don’t have the right to tell me what to do, either!"

"I don’t have the right? Hah, you’re right, I don’t. You think I *want* to tell you what to do? I just don’t want the woman I’m sharing a table with to be so disgraceful." Leo Joyce snatched the glass back again, slammed it down on the table, and barked furiously.
