Done Breeding: Now I Rule the Beastworld
Chapter 107 - 106: Jiang Li Backstabs Himself’It’s possible to get information about Jiang Li through Chi Yizhong. Using that to deal with him would be a rather vicious method.’
’Chi Yizhong wasn’t a hornet’s nest like Jiang Li. In fact, it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to call him as dense as a brick.’
At this thought, the last trace of discomfort in Chu Liangyu’s heart vanished completely.
’If she didn’t want Chi Yizhong to see what she was doing, she could just send him away. Besides, among his many so-called virtues, the most prominent one was that he was easy to fool.’
"Chieftain, is there something you need?"
When Chu Liangyu approached, a few of them were tending to the herbs in the shelters. Of course, these shelters weren’t made of plastic, but of plants they had magically grown themselves.
During the day, the shelters were kept open to let the herbs bask in the sun. At night, they would be wrapped tightly in vines to prevent them from freezing to death.
Of those they had rescued, only one was an Elder. The other two were just ordinary members of the Wood Spirit Clan, but their contributions to the tribe were indispensable.
Cheng Miao was the first to spot her. After he called out, the others noticed her as well, along with Chi Yizhong standing behind her.
"There is something. Elder, Cheng Miao, please come inside with me so we can talk."
The other two, hearing they weren’t needed, turned their attention back to their work, continuing to water the plants.
Finally, Chu Liangyu turned to Chi Yizhong and said, "They’ll be short-handed with two people gone. Go help them."
The gloomy expression on Chi Yizhong’s face had long since vanished. Hearing her command, he nodded without hesitation. "Alright. You go on ahead. I’ll wait for you here."
To make it easier to tend to the herbs, they had all built their houses not far from the medicinal fields.
The layout here was similar to Chu Liangyu’s own home: a small, three-story building. The first floor was a reception area, flanked by guest rooms, a bathroom, and a kitchen. It was small but had all the essentials.
"Chieftain, these are fruits we grew ourselves. Please, have a taste."
The Elder, a friendly smile on his face, pushed the fruit that Cheng Miao had prepared toward Chu Liangyu.
Fresh fruit was a rare sight in the winter, so Chu Liangyu considered herself fortunate. She didn’t stand on ceremony and graciously took a bite.
A moment later, she took some items from her Storage Bracelet, remarking, "This fruit is delicious." Pointing to the things on the table, she continued, "I came today because of these two items. Elder, please take a look."
The Elder let out a soft "oh." Before Chu Liangyu could even explain, he picked up the herb. "This is a hard one to find."
Chu Liangyu nodded. "Indeed. I was hoping you could cultivate it. That would be even better."
"That’s simple enough." Cheng Miao’s expression was full of confidence as he spoke. His gaze fell on the rather tattered pouch, and he asked quizzically, "But we’re not very good at mending torn pouches. Chieftain, you brought this out because...?"
"Jiaojiao said you have a keen nose. I want you to smell the materials inside and figure out a way to replicate the mixture exactly."
Cheng Miao couldn’t shake the feeling that "keen nose" sounded like an insult, but seeing her casual expression, he dismissed the thought. He took the pouch, sniffed it for a moment, and then said, "The things inside... I can identify all of them. It’s just... there’s a scent of blood in here."
His brow furrowed, and his tone was frustrated. "I can’t distinguish what kind of blood this is."
Chu Liangyu, however, just smiled. "If you could even tell that, then you’d really be..."
With a cough, Chu Liangyu swallowed the words ’a bloodhound’.
’Her first impression of the guy had been a bit too strong. Even though he was part of her tribe now, she still couldn’t resist the urge to tease him.’
"This blood seems to contain some kind of energy," he added. "It feels very... familiar."
Hearing him say that, an idea sparked in Chu Liangyu’s mind.
She took out a dagger and made a small cut on her finger. Blood welled up from the wound. "Here, smell this. Is it the same?"
Cheng Miao leaned in for a sniff, and his eyes suddenly lit up. "Yes."
"No, wait. It seems a bit weaker, not as concentrated." His smooth brow furrowed once more as he spoke.
Wiping the blood from her hand, Chu Liangyu lowered her gaze in thought. Seeing this, the other two didn’t dare to disturb her.
Instead, they began examining the other herbs on the table, realizing they were all herbs needed by the females for Body Refining. Aside from those, there were no other herbs of the same high grade as the first one.
Perhaps the person who gathered them had picked it by accident, mixing it in with the other herbs. This only went to show that this person had some decent luck.
"I think I know what’s going on."
Soon, clarity returned to Chu Liangyu’s eyes; she hadn’t been troubled by the question for long.
She had considered many possibilities, finally guessing that the blood might belong to that old geezer, the Beast God. Otherwise, Cheng Miao wouldn’t have described that familiar feeling.
"You two find the other materials first. I’ll take care of the drop of blood."
Both of them were a bit confused. It was the Elder who spoke up, asking, "Chieftain, does this mean you know whose blood it is?"
Chu Liangyu nodded but didn’t offer a detailed explanation. She only said, "Both of these tasks are extremely important. I’ll have to trouble you with them."
The Elder was still all smiles. "Don’t worry, Chieftain. Since we’ve become members of this tribe, it’s only natural that we’ll do everything in our power to help."
Chu Liangyu didn’t linger. After settling matters, she left the courtyard. The Elder wanted to have Cheng Miao see her out, but she decisively refused.
"Time is short and the task is demanding. There’s no need to stand on ceremony."
Cheng Miao raised an eyebrow but said nothing. He simply watched her leave before returning to the house a moment later.
By the edge of the medicinal field, Chi Yizhong was squatting in his white robes. His well-defined, bony fingers toyed with an herb as he seemed to be lost in thought.
Curious, Chu Liangyu lightened her steps and walked over. She followed his gaze to the herb but couldn’t see anything out of the ordinary.
"Why are you staring at it?" Not wanting to puzzle over it herself, she turned and asked the man in question.
Chi Yizhong let go of the herb, choosing his words carefully. "This herb... it seems to be poisonous."
Chu Liangyu’s first reaction was that it was impossible, but she didn’t voice her doubt. Instead, she asked, "Is it just this one plant?"
"No. It’s all of them that look like this."
Chu Liangyu’s expression turned serious. She waved someone over. "What’s the name of this herb? Who planted it, and when?"
The man gave her a strange look before explaining, "That’s Strengthening Essence Grass. You were the one who gave us the original sample, Chieftain."
"You’ve ingested it once. Did you feel any discomfort?"
The man shook his head. "Not at all. In fact, it’s very effective at restoring Primordial Energy."
Chu Liangyu fell silent and waved him away.
She didn’t think Chi Yizhong was joking, so she asked him again, this time more seriously, "Are you sure?"
"I’m sure." Chi Yizhong’s eyes went blank for a moment before he replied with conviction.
"I’ve handled this kind of herb in front of you before. Why didn’t you realize it was poisonous back then?" Chu Liangyu stared at his face, adding, "That time in the ruined house in Ten Thousand Beasts City."
