Done Breeding: Now I Rule the Beastworld
Chapter 23 - 22: Puny Pheasant, Handled"You captured a female. Where is she?"
The giant eagles, lost in their grief, had no time to deal with him. Xiong Xianhui couldn’t stand it anymore. He grabbed a Beastman and demanded, "Speak. Where is she?"
"Sh-she left."
Exchanging a glance with the others, Xiong Xianhui continued to ask, "Which direction did she go?"
"North."
’That’s not the way back. What is she doing going that way?’
"Let’s go. We’ll keep searching."
All eyes turned to Feng Qiwu, which only made him more physically and mentally exhausted. "Hey, can’t you guys give me a break?"
"I’m a Phoenix, not a pack mule! I need to rest, too!"
"Then let’s walk. The Female Master is probably in the same state. She shouldn’t have gotten far."
Xiong Jiaojiao and the others nodded, showing they had no objections.
The group left the Golden Eagle Clan’s territory and hurried north.
Because of this small decision, they missed Chu Liangyu yet again.
Chu Liangyu flew north for about three hundred miles when, in mid-air, her form suddenly faltered.
Her wings vanished in an instant, and the two of them plummeted downward.
The worst part was that Chu Liangyu was still unconscious and couldn’t save herself.
The little cub shrieked in terror, "Beast Mother, wake up! We’re going to be smashed to bits!"
However, his cries were useless. Their fall continued unabated.
Left with no other choice, the little cub could only cling to Chu Liangyu’s chest and resign himself to his fate.
Fortunately, there was a river right below them. They fell into the water, completely unscathed.
The river was flowing, and they were carried along by the current for a long time.
In the end, a large tree lying across the river stopped them. The little cub made himself bigger, carried Chu Liangyu on his back, and climbed onto the bank.
His fox paw nudged her gently, but Chu Liangyu only turned over, showing no other reaction.
The little fox knew she wouldn’t be waking up anytime soon. He shook the water from his body with all his might, and his fur quickly dried.
He looked around at the unfamiliar surroundings, his eyes filled with confusion.
’What am I supposed to do now?’
The sky gradually darkened, and the faint calls of wild beasts could be heard.
He should have been used to these sounds, but right now, he was a little scared.
Back in the tribe, his Beast Father protected them. But there was no one here, and to make matters worse, his Beast Mother was unconscious.
He pawed at the ground uneasily. After a moment’s thought, he picked up Chu Liangyu with his mouth and, in a few leaps, jumped up into a large tree.
He remembered his Beast Father saying that, in most situations, the trees were a relatively safe place to be.
All sorts of sounds filled the night. The little fox lay on Chu Liangyu’s chest with his eyes wide open, constantly on alert for any approaching threat.
Not until the first light of dawn did he relax. Nothing happened, and the night passed peacefully.
The past few days had been thrilling and terrifying, and the little fox couldn’t take it anymore. His eyelids felt incredibly heavy, and he finally succumbed, closing his eyes and falling asleep.
Their steady breaths gradually synchronized. As sunlight fell upon them, it created a scene of tranquil beauty.
The midday sun was strong. The heat on his fox fur woke him naturally from his sleep.
After a contented little grunt, the little fox stretched lazily.
He was a bit too comfortable for a moment, and his body swayed.
With a yelp of pain, the little fox fell out of the tree.
An embarrassed look flashed across the fox’s face, but he quickly composed himself.
He jumped back up the tree and nudged Chu Liangyu’s face with his nose. "Beast Mother?"
He called out to her, but as before, Chu Liangyu didn’t respond.
If not for the fact that she was still breathing, the little fox would have thought she was dead.
’What should I do? I can’t just keep watch like this forever.’
He was starting to get hungry. He needed to find something to eat.
’Just for a little while. Just a little while. I’ll be back soon.’
’Beast Mother should be safe here. Worst case, I’ll just have to be quick.’
The little fox muttered to himself, glanced back at her one more time, still worried, then hesitantly leaped down from the tree and quickly disappeared into the woods.
Worried for Chu Liangyu’s safety, the little fox didn’t dare go far, searching for food only in the immediate vicinity.
But he had never hunted before and had no experience whatsoever.
Even catching a pheasant was a huge struggle. After a long time, he had only managed to snatch a few bird eggs.
He gobbled them down in a few bites, but his stomach was still very empty.
The pheasant, as if seeing such a clumsy fox for the first time, wasn’t afraid of him at all. Instead, it strutted back and forth in front of him in clear provocation.
The little fox’s fighting spirit was ignited. Without a second thought, he charged after the pheasant.
Time flew by, and soon the sun was about to set.
The little fox finally caught the pheasant he’d been dreaming of. He eagerly took a bite.
As the feeling of hunger subsided, his reason returned.
Realizing it was already getting late, he immediately panicked.
Snatching up the pheasant, the little fox hurried back.
He didn’t know how far he had chased the pheasant, and it took him a long time to get back.
But there were three or four Beastmen gathered under the tree, all looking up at Chu Liangyu.
"Hey, female! It’s dangerous in the woods after dark. You should head back quickly."
"Yeah, it’s too dangerous. Hurry and come down. Go back to your tribe."
Their concerned words continued, but no one answered them.
The little fox didn’t hear any of this. He only saw these people pointing at Chu Liangyu in the tree.
The fox’s body instantly grew several times larger. He leaped in front of the tree and snarled at the group, baring his teeth.
"What are you doing? Get away from her!"
The group exchanged confused glances. One of them explained, "It’s too dangerous at night. We were just reminding that female to go back early."
"That’s right. Are you her cub?"
Beastman cubs have very young-sounding voices and can’t transform into human form, so they’re easy to recognize.
That was why they asked, but they were only curious.
They were in the middle of the wilderness, yet there was no Beast Husband to protect them.
"It’s none of your business. Just leave."
The little fox’s tone softened slightly, but his wariness didn’t lessen one bit.
His Beast Father had told him: when you’re out and about, don’t trust anyone.
He didn’t know why, but what his Beast Father said had to be right. He just had to follow his instructions.
"Alright then. Just remember to take your Beast Mother home early, you hear?"
Judging from their expressions, their words were truly spoken from the heart.
The little fox didn’t say anything, just watched quietly as they left.
Heaving a sigh of relief, the little fox jumped up into the tree.
The prey came with him. Blood was still gushing from the spot where he had bitten it.
The bright red blood dripped down—DRIP, DRIP, DRIP—onto the ground, and the scent of blood spread in all directions.
In the dim forest, a light flashed occasionally. It seemed like a lantern, but it was smaller.
The little fox was completely focused on Chu Liangyu, totally oblivious to the changes in his surroundings.
Chu Liangyu had a fever—the kind where steam was visibly rising from her body.
The little fox had never seen such a thing. He paced back and forth anxiously on the small tree branch.
’Steam?’
’Isn’t that just like being on fire? All I need is water!’
The worried look on the fox’s face vanished. He picked up Chu Liangyu in his mouth, ready to go find a place with water.
He had just taken his first quick steps when he sensed something was wrong.
Centered around the tree, one by one, green light bulbs lit up.
No, they were green wolf eyes.
They had all been drawn by the scent of the pheasant in the tree, and every one of them had a disgusting greed in their eyes.
