Done Breeding: Now I Rule the Beastworld
Chapter 35 - 34: A Little Gullible and Cute’Hu Qiumu’s journey is probably a long one,’ Chu Liangyu figured, so she wasn’t too worried.
As for Feng Qiwu, he was planning to rest for the night before going to pick up the cub.
That night, Chu Liangyu took Xiong Jiaojiao to stay at Hu Qiumu’s place for the time being.
If it hadn’t been for the fact that only one cub was present, Xiong Jiaojiao would have had to sleep outside again.
Chu Liangyu didn’t have a courtyard of her own. In the past, in order to bear children, she would usually live in the territories of her various Beast Husbands.
Back then, she had no free time of her own, let alone a separate courtyard to live in.
But things were different now. She didn’t have to bear children, and she had more free time.
She couldn’t keep freeloading on other people’s territory, so early the next morning, Chu Liangyu took Xiong Jiaojiao up the mountain to cut wood.
Chu Liangyu planned to build a three-story house, and she wanted it finished as quickly as possible.
Therefore, they chose to build with bamboo, mainly because it was lightweight and elegant.
After working for a good long while, the materials they had hauled back were only enough to build a single room.
Leaning against a tree with one hand, Chu Liangyu wiped the sweat from her forehead and said, "This won’t work. It’s too slow. We need to think of a better way."
The moment Xiong Jiaojiao heard this, she hurried closer, her face full of excitement as she waited to hear what Chu Liangyu would say next.
When Chu Liangyu looked up and saw her expression, she couldn’t help but palm her forehead, feeling both amused and exasperated.
Her gaze swept past Xiong Jiaojiao and fell upon the little cubs running wild all over the mountain.
Chu Liangyu narrowed her eyes, the corners of her lips curling up slightly. "Jiaojiao, help me make some toys."
Hearing Chu Liangyu use her nickname for the first time, Xiong Jiaojiao froze for a second, feeling a bit shy. "Oh, okay," she replied.
The two of them tinkered for a while and made a large pile of toys, laying them all out on the grass.
Chu Liangyu cleared her throat and called out, "Little cubs, come quick! Your Beast Mother has something good. Don’t you want to see?"
The things she’d made were all toys children loved, like seesaws, swings, slides, skateboards, and flower balls.
Considering the nature of Beastman cubs, Chu Liangyu also made a sturdy, durable roly-poly toy.
Everything a cub could possibly want was there, and even things they couldn’t have imagined.
The little ones, who usually just ran wild all day, had never seen anything like this. Their eyes were all filled with curiosity.
"Beast Mother, what’s this?"
"Yeah, yeah! What is it for?"
Chu Liangyu made a hushing gesture. Once they were quiet, she began to explain, "These are all toys. Each one is played with differently. For example..."
Chu Liangyu demonstrated a few of them and then let the cubs try them out. The whole pack of them fell in love instantly.
Their eyes were glued to the toys, and they refused to look away. This was exactly the effect Chu Liangyu wanted.
She didn’t waste any more time and stated her request directly, "Your Beast Mother needs to build a house. If any cubs are willing to help, when we’re finished, I’ll give all these toys to you."
"Beast Mother, I will!"
"Me too!"
"Me too, me too!"
----
The enthusiastic cries kept coming. Soon enough, Chu Liangyu had found her helpers.
Although they were all still little cubs, they were no ordinary children. Each of their Beast Fathers was powerful, and the genes they inherited were excellent.
They couldn’t transform yet, but they were still useful for some things—like helping Chu Liangyu build her house.
Xiong Jiaojiao was once again dumbfounded. She swallowed hard and this time, she gave Chu Liangyu two thumbs up.
She said, "Sister Liangyu, you’re really something else. I’m running out of words to praise you."
"Laziness breeds innovation."
Chu Liangyu summarized it pithily in four words, then plopped down beside the toys.
One had to admit, she was really something, having given birth to so many.
The cubs carrying bamboo up and down the mountain were like diligent little bees—a bit gullible, but very cute.
In the end, Chu Liangyu not only collected enough materials, but two or three times more than she actually needed.
Chu Liangyu kept her promise and gave them the toys.
They clutched the toys, cherishing them, and sat off to the side, completely engrossed in playing.
"Alright, let’s get started."
"You got it!"
Once the bamboo pieces were arranged, Xiong Jiaojiao coaxed vines from the earth, which wrapped around the bamboo again and again to secure them in place.
Repeating this process, it didn’t take long for the small, three-story bamboo house to be built.
The biggest advantage was that all the vines were alive. Not only were they sturdy, but they were also incredibly long-lasting.
For the three-story house, Chu Liangyu designated the first floor as a reception hall, the second floor as her and Xiong Jiaojiao’s bedroom, and the third floor as a storage room.
She also made a special balcony on the second floor to use as a relaxation area.
The remaining materials were used to build a kitchen, a bathroom, and a latrine in the backyard.
In the front yard, they built two-story bamboo buildings on either side to serve as guest quarters.
Of course, these guest quarters had their own bathrooms and latrines, but they weren’t private like the ones in the main house.
Instead, they were communal facilities separated by gender, which also made construction easier.
Afterward, the two of them built a fence around the perimeter, enclosing the entire courtyard.
It wasn’t meant to keep anyone out; Chu Liangyu simply felt it looked more natural.
Otherwise, it would feel very awkward with nothing surrounding it.
"Sister Liangyu, is this enough for now?"
"This is good. I’ll sort out the furnishings and other things slowly; there’s no rush." Dusting off her hands, Chu Liangyu looked up at the sky and said, "Come on, we’ll finish the rest tomorrow. The little cub should be back from his hunt by now."
The two of them had been busy building the house all day and couldn’t go hunting.
So, the little cub Hu Qiuliang was responsible for getting food. And you had to hand it to him, the little guy was actually quite skilled.
He was out for the day and returned with a pretty good haul.
He brought back elk, wild pheasant, and rabbit. They weren’t large animals, but it was enough to fill their stomachs.
"You did great, cub. Here, your Beast Mother saved this especially for you."
It was an oversized dragonfly woven from bamboo. With a light touch, its wings would even move!
It was so lifelike that Hu Qiuliang fell in love with it at first sight.
"Huh? Sister Liangyu, when did you weave this? How come I didn’t see you?"
"You didn’t see? I was weaving it right in front of you all day."
Xiong Jiaojiao thought for a long while. ’I don’t remember that at all!’
Seeing her expression, Chu Liangyu just smiled silently and continued to eat.
"I really love it, thank you, Beast Mother!"
The little fox leaped up, hugged Chu Liangyu’s arm, and nuzzled it affectionately.
Chu Liangyu ruffled his head and said, "You’re welcome. As long as my cub likes it."
’This little guy has a lot of talent,’ Chu Liangyu thought. ’I have high hopes for him.’
Therefore, she didn’t mind spending a little time fostering their mother-son bond.
’It wasn’t that she was weighing the pros and cons; it was just that she had birthed so many children that her maternal love had long since been exhausted. Just looking at them all was draining; I find it hard to truly love them. So, I do my best to focus my energy on the talented, more outstanding ones. As for those who aren’t strong fighters, I have other plans. At the very least, they have to be able to protect themselves and not drag the tribe down. My standards for them aren’t high; as long as they can meet that basic requirement, it will be enough. But as for how to implement those plans... I’ll figure that out after I get the house properly set up.’
