Chu Liangyu was well-hidden, and the figure didn’t notice her until she reached the mouth of the cave.

He stared into the cave, peering inside, though there was no telling what he was looking for.

Her hand tightened around her dagger, and Chu Liangyu shot out with lightning speed.

THUMP...

She tackled the figure, effortlessly pressing her dagger against the person’s neck.

"Who are you?"

"What are you doing skulking around here?"

He was silent for a moment before hesitantly saying, "This... is my cave."

He should have sounded indignant, but his voice lacked conviction.

Chu Liangyu froze, and the pressure from her hand slackened.

"Then why didn’t you come in? You should have at least said something."

"I... I was afraid that if I went in, you wouldn’t want to stay anymore."

Sensing no malice from him, Chu Liangyu released him and got to her feet.

Another flash of lightning illuminated the scene, allowing Chu Liangyu to get a clear look at the person before her.

’He looks easy to bully.’ Chu Liangyu shook her head, pushing the thought away.

She extended a hand to him. "Get up."

"The rain started so suddenly, we had no choice but to take shelter here. I’m sorry to have disturbed you."

In the darkness, his eyes lit up as he looked at Chu Liangyu’s outstretched hand.

After he stood up, Chu Liangyu said, "Let’s go inside. The rain is too heavy out here."

He nodded without a word and obediently followed Chu Liangyu back into the cave.

The commotion outside had been considerable, but the sound of the rain had masked it. Xiong Jiaojiao hadn’t noticed a thing and was still sleeping soundly inside the cave.

He sat opposite Chu Liangyu, looking rather reserved—hardly like someone who had just returned to his own home.

"Hello, I’m Chu Liangyu."

The atmosphere felt a little awkward, so Chu Liangyu took the initiative and introduced herself.

"Chi Yizhong."

"We’ll leave once the rain stops. We won’t disturb you for too long."

Chi Yizhong’s head snapped up. He opened his mouth, wanting to say that they could stay as long as they liked, that it didn’t matter how long.

But in the end, he said nothing and just nodded.

The cave fell silent once more, and Chu Liangyu found she had nothing more to say either.

Sitting face to face was, after all, a bit awkward. Chu Liangyu offered him a faint smile before finding one of the chambers and heading inside.

Sensing that Chu Liangyu didn’t want to spend more time with him, Chi Yizhong felt a pang of disappointment. His eyes darkened, and he sat motionless for a long while, lost in thought.

The rain lasted for two days.

Xiong Jiaojiao’s prediction had unfortunately come true. She couldn’t help but glance at Chu Liangyu, looking a little guilty.

"It’s alright, it was just a coincidence."

"See? It’s stopped now." Chu Liangyu raised an eyebrow, gesturing for her to look outside.

’It’s time to go.’ She glanced back into the cave, but Chi Yizhong was gone.

He’d probably gone hunting. Even though they were just strangers who had met by chance, it was a shame they couldn’t say goodbye.

"What’s wrong, Sister Liangyu?" Xiong Jiaojiao realized the person beside her was no longer walking, and turned to see Chu Liangyu still standing in place.

"It’s nothing. Let’s go."

The small island was surrounded by nothing but open water, and the mainland was a long way off.

The most straightforward method would be to swim, but Chu Liangyu couldn’t be bothered with the effort. So, she got creative.

Xiong Jiaojiao was tasked with building a small boat, while Chu Liangyu went into the sea and caught a shark.

She harnessed the shark with vines, then dangled another fish in front of it.

The moment she let the shark go, the little boat shot off like an arrow from a bow, speeding toward the mainland.

Chu Liangyu’s brilliant maneuver stunned the younger girl beside her. The admiration shining in Xiong Jiaojiao’s eyes was practically blinding.

She waved her hand dismissively. "Just a standard trick. You’ll get used to it."

"Sister Liangyu! You’re a genius! I never would have thought you could do that!"

Xiong Jiaojiao looked excitedly at the fish dangling from the line in Chu Liangyu’s hand. Clearly, she wanted to give it a try.

"Want to try?"

"Can I?"

Chu Liangyu simply handed her the line and made herself comfortable, lying back in the small boat.

There wasn’t much to see on the open sea; the only thing that captivated Chu Liangyu was the sky.

Perhaps because they were at sea, Chu Liangyu felt like the sky was all around them. It seemed as if they could just sail a little further and reach the edge of the world.

If she were alone, she might have felt lonely.

But thankfully, with company, Chu Liangyu didn’t feel lonely at all. In fact, she was even in the mood to hum a little.

Along the way, they passed the cliff they had fallen from. They circled the area for a bit, but when they didn’t find Feng Qiwu, they moved on.

Just as they were approaching the mainland, a Phoenix Cry echoed from the sky.

The two looked up. It was Feng Qiwu.

He had spotted them too and immediately descended, circling above their heads.

"Female Master, I finally found you!"

"You’ve been searching for us at sea this whole time?"

Feng Qiwu’s joy was palpable, and he replied quickly, "Yes! I figured you might not have washed ashore in one spot, so I’ve been searching the waters around here."

"You’ve worked hard. Come on, let’s head back."

"Alright."

Feng Qiwu descended again. Chu Liangyu leaped onto his back and reached down to pull Xiong Jiaojiao up.

But he suddenly shot upward, his tone turning sour. "What do you think you’re doing? My back isn’t for just anyone to climb on."

His tone was full of complaint, and a hint of accusation.

Chu Liangyu figured it was because she had pushed him away for Xiong Jiaojiao’s sake earlier, and then recklessly gone to save her. Feng Qiwu was jealous.

Fortunately, Xiong Jiaojiao was already familiar with his temper and didn’t try to argue with him.

"Then I’ll weave a swing. Would you mind carrying it? Would that be alright?"

Chu Liangyu gave a light stomp on his back. The gentle but firm pressure was enough to make Feng Qiwu, who had been about to protest, fall silent.

He turned his phoenix head away and snorted in frustration.

This was his way of giving tacit approval. Xiong Jiaojiao shot Chu Liangyu a thumbs-up.

She swiftly wove the swing, and a few moments later, they were on their way.

For a fleeting moment, Feng Qiwu’s expression grew solemn as he glanced discreetly toward a specific point on the ocean’s surface.

’That’s Trenke. Why is he following my Female Master and her companion?’

’He isn’t trying to harm them, so there’s only one possible reason.’

’He’s taken a fancy to one of them, but I don’t know which.’

And so, after that brief moment of solemnity, Feng Qiwu relaxed again.

He picked up the pace of his wingbeats, but even so, they didn’t make it back to the tribe until just before sunset.

Even though this place held many unpleasant memories, Chu Liangyu still felt a familiar sense of coming home.

Perhaps it was because she had been gone for several days.

The young cubs were especially ecstatic to see her, and they all came running to surround her.

Especially Hu Qiuliang, who was at the very front; he hugged Chu Liangyu’s leg and refused to let go.

"Beast Mother, you’re finally back!"

"Beast Father went to pick up our brothers and sisters a few days ago. I’ve been all by myself, and I was bored to death."

"The days I spent with you, Beast Mother, were much more fun."

The little cub rambled on, and Chu Liangyu listened quietly until he ran out of things to say.

"There, there. I’m sure your Beast Father will be back in a few days."

Chu Liangyu looked around. The rabbit and bear cubs were back, though the fox and phoenix cubs had yet to return. Of course, Feng Qiwu had been with her the whole time, so he hadn’t had a chance to retrieve the phoenix cub.
