Done Breeding: Now I Rule the Beastworld
Chapter 71 - 70: Ahead of ScheduleIn Chu Liangyu’s previous world, there was a certain legendary object.
It was called Earth, a divine soil that could grow and expand on its own.
It was once used by Dayu to control the great floods.
Moreover, any plant grown on it would have its growth time shortened, and its quality would be superior.
Even common weeds grown on it were different from others; beasts that ate them would gain greater intelligence.
If they could obtain the Earth, the problem plaguing them would be easily solved.
"Sister Liangyu, you don’t have to worry too much. By the time they reach the Body Refining stage, we should be able to cultivate a good amount."
Xiong Jiaojiao pointed at the herb Chu Liangyu had brought back, the one that restored Primordial Energy. "Besides, we still have this, don’t we? If you run out of energy, just take a bite, and your vitality will be instantly restored."
Chu Liangyu knew that, but she couldn’t just exploit them like this.
Besides, the Elder was old and couldn’t withstand such a strain.
"You’ll all collapse if you keep this up. Don’t do this unless it’s a critical moment."
"If we don’t have enough herbs, we’ll just have to take it slow. It’s not worth overdrawing your bodies," Chu Liangyu instructed, her tone turning serious.
Xiong Jiaojiao heard the earnestness in her tone and paused for a moment, then the smile on her lips grew even brighter. "Okay, I understand."
After settling the matter, Chu Liangyu called out to Chi Yizhong, "How about we leave now?"
"We can." They weren’t far apart, and Chi Yizhong’s response came quickly.
Having agreed, the two of them headed out of the tribe. Seen from a distance, their shadows were stretched long by the sun, appearing perfectly harmonious.
It was as if the two were destined to be together. Yu He frowned and quickened his pace to follow them.
"Wait, I’m coming too."
Chu Liangyu looked back, choosing not to call him out on his obvious intentions. "Alright, then let’s go together."
It had only been a month and a half since Yu He’s last trip back to the ocean; he still had another half a month left.
Yet he wanted to go with them. His intentions were perfectly clear.
Following a route similar to the one they took before, they once again arrived at the river.
In the Beast World, every river led to the ocean, so they didn’t have to put much thought into it.
The only difference was the distance, and fortunately, the Beast God Temple was in a prime location, very close to the rivers that flowed to the ocean.
"I’ve always been curious about something."
After entering the water, the trident transformed her legs into a fishtail. Its emerald green color shimmered with a soft luster that was pleasant to behold, making one feel refreshed and at ease.
"What is it?"
Beneath his long, white fur, Chi Yizhong’s eyes still held a gaze she found so familiar.
It was just that his beast form was so ugly-cute that Chu Liangyu always felt a sense of dissonance.
"Why do you have to return to the ocean periodically?"
"Why don’t you take a guess, Female Master?" Yu He interrupted, cutting in before Chi Yizhong could speak.
Chu Liangyu did as he said. After a moment’s thought, she hesitated. "To replenish your salt levels?"
Yu He and Chi Yizhong, swimming on either side of her, both gave her a strange look upon hearing her guess.
"You have a great imagination, Female Master," Yu He said, nodding as if trying to hold back a laugh.
It was Chi Yizhong who explained, "It’s related to the Heart of the Ocean. The spirits of all Ocean Beastmen are born from it. If we get too far away, we lose its protection. Without that protection, we will wither and die."
Yu He added to his explanation, "The length of time we can be away also varies depending on the strength of our race."
Chu Liangyu had a sudden realization. Although it was a hassle for them to return every so often... ’...it’s precisely this limitation that holds back most of the ambitious Ocean Beastmen.’
In reality, the Ocean Beastmen are, on average, no weaker than those on land.
Many of them also possess Talent Skills, which are not only bizarre but often leave their opponents helpless.
More importantly, most of them are bloodthirsty and violent.
Speaking of protection, there was still something Chu Liangyu didn’t understand. "So, does that mean you can regain the protective energy just by staying in the ocean for a while?"
"Not exactly. The protective power of the Heart of the Ocean is special. To regain it, we have to find it and recover within its energy field."
Chi Yizhong’s explanation was concise but covered the main points, so Yu He didn’t add anything else.
’It’s probably because of this hassle that most Ocean Beastmen never leave the ocean,’ Chu Liangyu figured.
"For those of us who live in the ocean, finding it is quite easy." After a pause, Chi Yizhong glanced at Yu He and added, "The stronger you are, the more accurately you can sense its location."
Yu He’s face darkened. ’What’s that supposed to mean, you blockhead?’
’He’s only a tiny bit stronger than me, and he’s already getting smug about it.’
"Tch..." Turning his head away, Yu He let out an annoyed scoff.
"It’s snowing."
A snowflake landed on Chu Liangyu’s palm. She murmured the words, her thoughts unreadable.
However, there was only one thing that could be worrying her right now.
The Childbirth System had warned her that a great snow would fall continuously this year, and not even it knew when it would stop.
But this was a full two months earlier than the Childbirth System had predicted.
Was the Childbirth System unreliable, or had something happened that she didn’t know about? Chu Liangyu was more inclined to believe the latter.
The snow had started too suddenly. Almost none of the tribes had managed to store up food in time.
Even the few who had planned ahead didn’t have much stored away—nowhere near enough to survive the winter.
This led to the Xihe Tribe, migrating with their large supply of food, becoming a target.
----
"The snow is getting heavier and heavier. What are we going to do?"
"If I’d known, I never would have joined this migration. I’m afraid I’ll be dead before we even get there."
"And the cubs! They can’t handle this."
Words like these spread continuously, enough to shake even the most resolute person.
If this kept up, they would scare themselves to death long before anyone had a chance to rob them.
The Lion Beastmen were the most numerous among those voicing such defeatist sentiments. Jinling was in a foul mood; he had never felt so disgraced.
Especially when he felt the gazes of Hu Qiumu and his companion on him, he felt his face burn with shame.
"What’s all this noise?! With the time you’re wasting, you could have already walked a great distance." Jinling rarely wore a cold expression, but this time, he looked more like a stranger than ever before.
"Since you’ve already come this far, you will keep walking! Don’t let the other beastmen think my Lion Beastmen are a bunch of cowards." After sweeping his gaze over his clansmen, Jinling said coldly, "If anyone tries to desert, I’ll kill them. After all... cowards don’t deserve to live."
The complaints immediately died down. The Lion Beastmen could feel the other beastmen sizing them up.
An indescribable shame washed over them. The Elder was right; they shouldn’t have entertained thoughts of backing out.
If they had actually done that, they wouldn’t even be able to respect themselves.
"The Elder is right! We don’t need cowards!"
His words had fired up the Bear Clan, and someone couldn’t help but shout out in excitement.
Spurred on by their energy, a unified chant rang out in Jinling’s ears: "The Elder is right! We don’t need cowards!"
The low morale instantly soared. The people lying in ambush in the shadows were stunned.
’Wha-what’s going on? Don’t tell me they’ve already spotted us?’
Xiong Xianhui clapped Jinling on the shoulder. When Jinling looked over, he immediately gave him a thumbs-up.
Jinling’s expression softened considerably at that. He nodded, accepting the praise.
The others might not have known, but the three of them had already sensed the people hiding in the shadows.
