They were exposed while the enemy was in the shadows, making it difficult to defend.

But it wasn’t impossible. In fact, they could use this to their advantage and achieve an unexpected outcome.

Seeing Hu Qiumu flash that same old calculating smile, Jinling and Xiong Xianhui relaxed considerably.

The three of them exchanged a look and, with a shared understanding, huddled closer.

"Don’t alert them yet. Here’s the plan..."

It was unclear what they had discussed, but after their conversation, Jinling and Xiong Xianhui said in unison, "Tsk. No wonder they say foxes are sly. It’s true."

Hu Qiumu shot them a look. "The way you say that... If we weren’t on the same team, I’d almost think you were insulting me."

In truth, they were, just a little. They just didn’t dare let it show.

A battle silently began, and the ever-growing blizzard seemed to beat a war drum in anticipation.

Bright red blood splattered across the pristine white snow, like plum blossoms blooming in winter.

It was a jarring sight, yet it possessed a strange, morbid beauty.

----

While the fierce battle raged on, a private room in the Black Market was the very picture of leisurely calm.

Two men, one standing and one sitting, possessed entirely different auras yet were both strikingly handsome.

A faint halo seemed to envelop them, exuding an air of inviolable sanctity.

The room was well-appointed with incense and a brazier. A small bookshelf was filled with tomes that gave off the faint scent of ink, mingling with the elegant aroma of tea. It was enough to make one feel as if their very soul was being cleansed.

Such an arrangement was clearly out of place in the Beast World, yet the two men seemed perfectly accustomed to it.

After all, most Beastmen were rough and simple-hearted, lacking any inclination toward such refined self-cultivation.

Without a doubt, everything about this place was bizarre.

Besides the two of them, a third person stood in the corner. This man, however, was plain-looking with an even more ordinary presence—the kind of person you’d forget the moment they were out of sight.

But if Chu Liangyu had been there, she would have recognized him instantly.

For he was the very stall owner who had traded her the Essence Medicine.

Ye Han couldn’t stand Jiang Li’s posturing any longer and impatiently kicked a table leg. "What the hell are you thinking? Why did you give her that medicine?"

"’I didn’t give it to her. I just happened to need a Phoenix Blood Stone,’ Jiang Li said, taking a delicate sip of tea before slowly raising his eyes to meet the other man’s gaze."

’The entire Black Market is under his control. How could he possibly be short on something like that?’

Ye Han wasn’t a fool; he knew how hollow that excuse was.

"There’s no way we can ever coexist peacefully. Don’t be so naive. Do you really think you can earn her gratitude by cozying up to her now that she’s lost her memory?"

Ye Han sneered, his voice dripping with malice. "Besides, wasn’t the Childbirth System your design? Regretting it now?"

"I mean, it’s one thing for you to get yourself tangled up in this and become one of her Beast Husbands, but why did you have to drag me down with you?"

Just thinking about it made Ye Han’s stomach turn; the memory was a bitter pill to swallow.

"That was a miscalculation," Jiang Li replied. "I never anticipated that it would sweep us both up in it."

Jiang Li’s expression soured. He set his cup down, his interest in the tea gone.

"I don’t want an apology," Ye Han retorted. "Just know that you owe me for this. Don’t you forget it."

"I know. I haven’t forgotten."

Although all three were heirs to the Beast God, they hadn’t been born in the same way as Beastmen.

The explanation was rather complex, but to put it simply, the three of them were more like beings casually created by hand, much like the goddess Nuwa molding humans from clay.

Perhaps even the Beast God himself never expected that not only would they gain sentience, but they would also inherit a portion of his power.

"Those two cubs of yours," Ye Han asked, changing the subject. "What do you plan to do with them?"

Ye Han asked the question as much for himself as for Jiang Li, searching for a solution to his own predicament.

He had three of his own, and facing the noisy cubs day in and day out left him utterly exasperated, with no idea how to handle them.

"I’ll keep them for now," Jiang Li said.

Ye Han’s brow furrowed. He was more inclined to just dump the cubs on Chu Liangyu.

He was absolutely fed up and didn’t want to see those little creatures at all.

Jiang Li was Chu Liangyu’s ninth Beast Husband, and Ye Han was her tenth, right after him.

The time they had spent by Chu Liangyu’s side wasn’t exactly long, but it wasn’t short, either.

The problem was, their memories hadn’t returned during that time. By the time they did, the cubs were already so big.

It was depressing. Utterly depressing.

"Last time, my clone almost finished her on that island," Ye Han said, "but some guy suddenly showed up and ruined everything."

Ye Han’s fists clenched. "I was so close!"

"Not only did I fail to get rid of her, but for some reason, she suddenly regained her memory for a time, found my heart, and destroyed it."

"It cost me a third of my energy. I’m getting my revenge for that, no matter what. Don’t you get in my way, or else..."

For a fleeting moment, an unnatural look crossed Jiang Li’s face, but it vanished so quickly that Ye Han didn’t notice.

"I know you have a clone watching her. I came to you this time to ask for her exact location."

Jiang Li’s head snapped up in surprise. ’How could he know?’

Ye Han gave another soft sneer, one eyebrow raised. "Is it that hard to guess?"

’After all, if he didn’t have a clone near Chu Liangyu, how would he know something as trivial as her needing Essence Medicine?’

"She’s in the South Sea," Jiang Li admitted.

"What’s she doing in the South Sea?"

Ye Han’s curiosity was piqued, and the question came out naturally.

"Aren’t you going there to kill her? Why ask so many questions?" Jiang Li poured out the cooled tea and began brewing a fresh pot. "It’s nothing important. You’ll find out when you get there."

’That makes sense,’ Ye Han thought. He eyed the freshly brewed tea, grabbed a cup for himself, and poured a serving.

It was hot, so he blew on it before downing it in one go.

All that talking had left his mouth dry. Only now that their business was concluded did he remember to have a drink.

Watching his crude behavior, Jiang Li couldn’t help but shake his head. "Such fine tea is wasted on you."

"Oh, give me a break," Ye Han scoffed. "Does one have to drink it as slowly as a snail for it to be worthwhile? You’re a real piece of work."

"You just don’t understand."

Ye Han kicked the table leg again, and tea sloshed from the cup.

"Right, you understand. So you can savor it nice and slow."

With that, Ye Han turned and stormed out of the room.

----

The snow fell thicker and faster, and before long, a heavy blanket of white covered the heads of Chu Liangyu and her companions.

Finding it too troublesome to constantly brush off the snow, they dove beneath the surface and continued on their way.

Traveling day and night, they soon reached the confluence of the river and the sea.

The transition spanned only a few meters, but it felt like crossing into another world.

"Can you sense it now?"

Chu Liangyu was, of course, asking about the location of the Heart of the Ocean, a fact the other two understood immediately.

Upon hearing her, Chi Yizhong closed his eyes and focused for a moment before replying, "Yes, but it’s very far away."

It was just as Chi Yizhong had said before: the stronger one’s power, the more accurate the sensation.

Yu He, for example, could only vaguely sense the general direction.

In truth, his power was by no means weak. Being able to sense the direction from such a great distance was already quite impressive.

But as the saying goes, comparisons are odious.

He wasn’t going to die from it, but it was true that he simply wasn’t as formidable in comparison.
