Everything went according to plan, without any major setbacks. In fact, it was going even better than Chu Liangyu had imagined.

"Female Master."

Taking advantage of a rare moment of leisure, Chu Liangyu had moved a rattan chair into the courtyard to sunbathe.

She wasn’t sure what had gotten into them lately, but Hu Qiumu, Xiong Xianhui, and Jinling had all been running over to see her at the drop of a hat.

They were constantly calling out "Female Master, Female Master," and Chu Liangyu’s head would start to ache the moment she heard it.

Casually placing a book over her face, Chu Liangyu remained silent, pretending she hadn’t heard.

Jinling slowed his pace, crouched down, and gently removed the book from her face. "Female Master, the cubs belonging to several of us in the tribe are about to come of age. When do you think we should begin?"

Chu Liangyu opened her eyes and turned her head to ask, "Are you saying the cubs of all these Beast Husbands in the tribe are ready for their coming-of-age ceremony at the same time?"

Different races came of age at different times; how could they all be ready at once?

"Exactly. We found it strange as well." Jinling’s expression grew serious. "But we’ve carefully examined their condition, and they are indeed showing signs of coming of age."

In the days leading up to their coming of age, a male Beastman’s body temperature would gradually rise, reaching a scalding heat.

Aside from feeling thirsty, they wouldn’t experience any other discomfort themselves.

However, anyone who got too close would feel as though they were being scorched by flames.

"Where is Hu Qiumu?"

Hu Qiumu was the most meticulous of the group, so her first instinct was to hear his opinion.

"He’s trying to find the reason for the cubs’ premature coming of age."

Chu Liangyu was no longer in the mood to sunbathe. She got up from the rattan chair and beckoned to him. "Come on, let’s go take a look together."

The two of them had just run into each other before Jinling arrived, so he knew where Hu Qiumu was.

"He’s checking on Ye Han’s cubs right now. We can head straight there."

It was unclear what Hu Qiumu had discovered, but the look on his face was exceptionally grave.

"How is it?"

Hu Qiumu glanced at her and chose his words carefully. "These three cubs aren’t affected."

"Only our cubs in the entire tribe are showing signs of premature coming of age. I’ve investigated every possibility but can’t find the cause. It’s very strange."

Chu Liangyu fell silent. Just as she was about to speak, her gaze landed on Lou Sang, who had shown up at some point and was keenly watching the drama unfold.

Gritting her teeth, Chu Liangyu asked coolly, "Lou Sang, what do you make of this?"

Lou Sang clearly hadn’t expected her to drag him into it. He was so startled that his foot slipped, but thankfully, there was a half-man-high pile of hay beside him.

After regaining his balance, Lou Sang casually packed a snowball and tossed it in a random direction. He dusted off his hands and, pretending he had only just heard her, replied, "What kind of question is that? How else would I be looking? With my big, beautiful eyes, of course."

Chu Liangyu rolled her eyes, deciding not to bother with him.

This premature Beastification had to be stopped. Otherwise, the damage to their innate talents would be irreparable, no matter how many Heavenly Materials and Earthly Treasures were used later. Besides, every one of these cubs possessed exceptionally high racial talents.

There were Phoenixes and Azure Dragons in the mix. The loss of even a single one would be a painful blow to Chu Liangyu.

"Ow! Who did that? So inconsiderate!"

A clear female voice tinged with arrogance rang out, and everyone turned toward the sound.

It was a familiar face—Feng Qingqing. The remnants of the shattered snowball clung to her hair, and she was frantically trying to brush it off.

Beside her, Feng Qiwu wore an amused smile, clearly enjoying the show with no intention of helping.

Feng Qingqing’s temper flared instantly. "Fine, don’t help! What’s so funny?!"

Though it was a simple exchange, the onlookers sensed an unusual undertone.

It was as if... the two of them were a little too close, like companions who had lived together their entire lives.

"Who is she? Why was she brought back?" Hu Qiumu frowned. He didn’t recognize this female, but he sensed a strong ambition in her eyes and instinctively disliked her.

Feng Qiwu froze for a second, a dazed look momentarily clouding his eyes. He shook his head, stepped forward, and explained, "On my way back, I saw her wandering outside the woods. It’s snowing so heavily, I was afraid she would freeze to death. And since she’s a female, I couldn’t just leave her there."

The others present exchanged glances, all feeling that something was off about Feng Qiwu.

"Hey, isn’t that the female who wanted us to be her Beast Husbands?" Yu He had heard Chu Liangyu was here and, with nothing better to do, had come over to see what was happening, only to witness this scene.

"What if it is me? Is there a reason to be so surprised?"

"It’s not surprise so much as a feeling that you’re still up to no good," Yu He scoffed, crossing his arms and speaking bluntly.

’I don’t know what’s gotten into Feng Qiwu. He couldn’t stand this female before, even said his own clansmen meant nothing to him. And now he’s suddenly playing the saint?’

’Weird! So weird!’

Hu Qiumu was sharp; he was able to piece together the situation from their conversation.

He turned his head to glance at Chu Liangyu, who hadn’t said a word this whole time, and asked, "Female Master, should we kick her out?"

Hu Qiumu’s eyes darkened slightly. He actually wanted the female to stay.

’Judging by Feng Qiwu’s state, he probably won’t be spending much time on Chu Liangyu from now on. In that case, I...’

He surreptitiously shot Jinling a look. The latter paused for a moment, then after a moment’s thought, understood his meaning.

Instantly grasping the unspoken message, he spoke up, "Female Master, I don’t think it would be proper to just kick her out."

"She is a Phoenix, after all, and the daughter of a clan leader. If her people were to find out that she died because of us, it would likely cause a great deal of trouble."

Feng Qiwu opened his mouth to add, "Just for a few days. We’ll have her leave once the snow stops."

Chu Liangyu, however, knew the snow wasn’t going to stop anytime soon.

Her gaze swept across their faces, and she suddenly broke into a smile. The curve of her eyes was as gentle and welcoming as a spring breeze.

"Since you’ve all said your piece, we’ll let her stay."

Normally, any female would be displeased to have her Beast Husbands plead on another female’s behalf.

Even if she didn’t go so far as to kill the other party, she certainly wouldn’t be welcoming her with a smile.

And yet, Hu Qiumu and Jinling couldn’t detect the slightest hint of anything wrong in her expression, and they couldn’t quite put a finger on the feeling it gave them.

Ever since they had met Chu Liangyu, there had been a faint, intangible barrier between them.

They wanted to draw closer, yet couldn’t help but feel a sense of inadequacy.

They often felt frustrated, but the unique aura about her was so captivating that they couldn’t stop themselves from chasing after her.

"By the way, weren’t you supposed to be persuading my kinsmen to migrate with us? Why are you back so soon?"

The question came from Hu Qiumu, who seemed to be trying to alleviate his own discomfort by changing the subject.

Chu Liangyu knew about this matter and also found it odd. She joined the others in looking toward Feng Qiwu, waiting for his response.

At the mention of this, a fire ignited in Feng Qiwu’s belly. "Don’t even get me started! Your kinsmen are as cunning as they come. No matter what I said, they found a way to argue against it."

"I tried to persuade them for days, but they refused to budge, saying they would come over after the snow stops."

"I’m starting to suspect they don’t actually want to join us and are just using that as an excuse."

Going back on one’s word was a serious blow to one’s reputation among Beastmen. These were Hu Qiumu’s kinsmen, after all; how could he let Feng Qiwu speak ill of them?

"If they said they would come after the snow stops, then they will honor their word. It just means you’ll have to wait a few more days."

"But you grew impatient and came back. How are they supposed to find their way here?"
