"Alright, wait a moment."
Chu Liangyu’s expression showed no difficulty. She just tapped her fingers, intending to use the Trading System.
Ever since her strength had recovered, she only needed to input a little bit of energy to open it.
It had never failed before, but this time, it seemed a bit slow to respond.
Chu Liangyu frowned and waited patiently.
The others couldn’t see what she was doing and simply thought she was a little displeased.
"Beast Mother?" Chu Li called out to her softly, confused.
Suppressing the strange feeling in her heart, Chu Liangyu ignored him and instead asked Jiang Li, "Did you set up a Barrier here?"
’This system isn’t some modern-world cell phone that can get a bad signal or something.’
’The only possibility is that a Barrier is blocking it.’
Jiang Li nodded faintly, not hiding anything. "That’s right. There is a Barrier."
"I see. I’ll step outside for a bit, then, to get some gifts for the little cubs."
Without waiting for his reply, Chu Liangyu turned and walked out on her own, her steps a little hurried.
Jiang Li didn’t stop her. He let her go, but his gaze lingered on her back for a long time.
The moment she stepped outside the Barrier’s range, before Chu Liangyu could even open the Trading System...
...a dense flood of unread message notifications burst forth. They were all from Lou Sang.
Chu Liangyu’s heart sank as she read through the messages one by one.
At first, they were just complaints he’d sent out of sheer boredom, but the later ones...
"That female is trying to seduce Xiang Qiancheng again. Her methods are really something. Seriously, if you don’t come back soon, your Beast Husband is going to belong to someone else."
"Something happened in the tribe. A female killed her Beast Husband and is being condemned by the tribe members."
"It’s over, it’s over! That brainless Feng Qingqing escalated the conflict, and now the males and females in the tribe are fighting!"
Reading up to this point, Chu Liangyu actually felt it was still manageable. But when she saw what came next, she could no longer remain calm.
"I don’t know what’s going on, but a group of Beastmen from outside are attacking the tribe. They’re demanding we hand over the people of the Wood Spirit Clan."
"The situation is urgent! Return immediately!"
Without a second thought, Chu Liangyu closed the trading panel and prepared to rush back to the tribe. But she hadn’t gotten far when Jiang Li’s voice came from behind her. "Where are you going?"
At a time like this, Chu Liangyu couldn’t help but suspect this was all Jiang Li’s doing. At that thought, her amicable expression vanished. "You’d better not stop me," she said, her voice cold, "or I’ll take care of you right here and now."
"Don’t you think living with us is wonderful?" He reached out and smoothed her furrowed brow. "So, you... should just stay."
Chu Liangyu swiftly moved away from him. Her trident materialized in her hand, its tip pointed directly at his nose. "And what if I insist on going back?"
"I will make you stay."
The smile on Jiang Li’s face didn’t falter, but a white longsword had appeared in his hand.
Chu Liangyu tightened her grip on her trident. She understood now: she had to defeat the man before her to get back and save her people.
"That’s not for you to decide."
Chu Liangyu was fearless, a confident smile playing on her lips.
At the same time, faint patterns began to appear on her face.
The trident transformed into a longsword as well. With an elegant flourish, she instantly lunged at Jiang Li.
A sharp CLANG echoed as the longswords collided. The force of the impact knocked them both back a step. As their eyes met, killing intent surged.
In just a few moments, they had exchanged over a hundred blows.
Yet Chu Liangyu couldn’t seem to gain any advantage. He was clearly holding back, his only goal to stall for time.
The patterns on her face began to glow with a silvery-white light, and the energy inside her body surged dramatically.
’But I know this power boost is only temporary. I have to end this fight quickly.’
Suddenly, Chu Liangyu’s attack speed increased, while her other hand stealthily drew her bronze short knife.
Seeing that Jiang Li’s attention was focused on the moves of her longsword, Chu Liangyu’s eyes turned sharp, and she ruthlessly stabbed the knife toward his Dantian.
But to her surprise, Jiang Li blocked the strike with his bare hand. He looked at her, a complex emotion in his eyes.
His lips moved for a long moment before he finally spoke. "Do you want to kill me that badly?"
Chu Liangyu frowned, her gaze fixed on the short knife he had caught. She swiftly pulled it back and retreated a few steps.
"Sooner or later, this day would come. You should have known that."
Jiang Li stared at his bleeding palm without a word. After a long while, he looked up and seemed to nod in agreement. "Mm, you’re right."
Seeing him like this, Chu Liangyu cautiously took a few more steps back as her trident changed form once again.
It became a Crossbow, loaded with three arrows. The power gathering at their tips was chilling to behold.
SWISH! SWISH! SWISH!
The three arrows shot toward Jiang Li in unison. He didn’t dodge. With a light lift of his longsword, he swatted them aside.
But like dogs that had spotted a meaty bone, the long arrows curved back and attacked Jiang Li again, targeting him from the front, back, and above.
His white wings wrapped tightly around him, and the three arrows became embedded within them, unable to be pulled out.
A moment later, Jiang Li’s face was revealed again.
Chu Liangyu gave him no chance to breathe, firing a volley of arrows at him like a downpour of rain.
This time, the tips of the arrows carried a searing heat. A puff of black smoke rose from Jiang Li’s white feathers.
Jiang Li’s eyes flickered. A ball of water appeared in his hand, and he doused the burning spot.
Chu Liangyu’s expression remained impassive, but her mind reeled in shock.
’That wasn’t ordinary fire I just used, but this guy’s water extinguished it with ease.’
’As I thought, he’s not as he appears.’
’At the very least, he still hasn’t used any of his truly powerful attacks.’
Just as she was thinking this, Jiang Li attacked, moving toward her with incredible speed.
He held no sword this time; a mass of energy had gathered in his palm, and he aimed it straight for her face.
Chu Liangyu didn’t even twitch an eyebrow. A finger on the hand hanging by her side moved slightly. In the next instant, a thick, moist air filled Jiang Li’s nostrils, and her figure vanished from the spot.
But Jiang Li seemed to have anticipated this. He abruptly redirected the energy in his hand, sending it flying behind him.
The immense energy blast pierced straight through Ten Thousand Beasts City behind him. The people inside, some still smiling, were instantly turned into a bloody mist by the attack, unable to even let out a cry.
However, the familiar figure was not where he had aimed. For a split second, Jiang Li was stunned. Then, he reinforced his defenses.
At that same moment, Chu Liangyu’s flaming longsword pierced through his protective shield and stabbed into his white wings.
Just from that single blow, a muffled groan escaped his lips.
Showing no mercy, Chu Liangyu followed up by inflicting several more wounds on his body.
Suddenly, Chu Liangyu sensed danger approaching from behind. The feeling made the hair on her neck stand on end.
With no time to think, Chu Liangyu dodged to the side.
"How could it be you?!"
When she got a clear look at the newcomer, astonishment filled her eyes, but she quickly regained her composure.
