Luci’El concentrated. The energy around her stirred, waves of Chi that crossed her body like an electric current. She was trying to pierce the darkness, to see beyond and for that she would have to do an astral projection... But the more she forced it, the more the darkness seemed to thicken.
Then blood flowed from her nose, then from her eyes. Red streams traced lines on her pale cheeks, and she felt a sharp pain cross her skull.
"*Cough*... Ah... I cannot concentrate," she said while wiping her face with the back of her hand.
*Cough Cough*
She remained motionless for a moment, short of breath. Her fingers trembled slightly, but she forced her breathing to calm down. The pain decreased little by little, giving way to a deep fatigue.
"Why does mother send the spear of destiny to kill Daemon?" she said out loud to the thoughts that kept coming back.
She paused, thinking. "She no longer trusts destiny?"
Her fingers clenched on the fabric of her robe. "Destiny has designated me as the person who will kill him... If she sends someone else, does that mean that destiny is not completely immutable?"
She stood up slowly, her legs slightly numb from the prolonged position. She wiped the remaining blood on her face with a corner of her sleeve, then she remained standing, eyes still closed, turned toward the window.
"I should find a way to help him... Otherwise, if he is injured by this spear, he will certainly die," she murmured.
She took her blindfold and held it between her fingers, hesitating. Then an idea crossed her mind.
"Maybe she does not want to kill him," she said slowly. "Maybe she just wants to attract The Cursed Chosen."
She touched the blindfold then memories slowly came back...
...
That year, Luci’El was seven years old.
She was sitting at the top of the tower, on the ground, trembling. Her small hands were clenched on her knees, and she was crying abundantly, but her tears were red. Blood flowed from her eyes tracing furrows on her pale cheeks. Her eyes were no different from open wounds, which itched and burned constantly. Every blink was torture.
She cried in silence, alone in the immensity of the tower, when she heard the sound of footsteps and a cane advancing toward her.
The sound was regular... Of a person strutting in her room. Luci’El raised her head. She could not see the person, but she perceived her Chi. It was a strange Chi, different from anything she had known. It was rather black and white mixed... which formed a dull shade of gray.
This woman was a bit weird.
’Why was she walking with a cane when she clearly had no problem moving?’ she wondered.
"Who... who are you?" she managed to say while trembling, her voice choked by sobs.
The woman approached and crouched slightly in front of her. She had a soothing presence, like a cold breeze in summer. Her hand rested delicately on Luci’El’s hair, brushing the golden locks with softness.
"I am an acquaintance of Agath," said the woman in a voice without intonation. "Why are you crying so much, Little Star?"
Luci’El sniffled, wiping her bloody tears with the back of her hand. "I... I... My eyes hurt me, but mother says I must endure it to become stronger."
"Hmmm," made the woman, a thoughtful sound.
Luci’El felt the woman remove something she was holding in her hand. There was a sound of fabric tearing, then a rustling.
Even if she could not see an object that had no Chi, she knew that the woman had removed a glove, then had torn the fabric.
"Children must remain innocent as long as possible," said the woman. "You do not need to grow up too fast."
Her fingers rested on Luci’El’s temples, then she bandaged her eyes with the fabric. As soon as the blindfold touched her skin, Luci’El felt an immediate difference. The flow of Chi that constantly penetrated her eyes, that painful energy that burned her from the inside, was instantly blocked. The pain eased, then disappeared completely. It seemed that the fabric was not ordinary.
"Thank you, madam... I feel much better," said Luci’El, her voice still fragile but calmer.
The woman stood up with natural grace, then she headed toward the balcony. Her steps were light and graceful. She turned toward Luci’El.
"You must already be at the Third Sense, right?" she asked.
Luci’El tilted her head, confused. "I... I do not know what that means."
The woman signaled her to come toward her. Luci’El stood up slowly, hesitant, then she advanced to the balcony. She could not see the landscape, but she felt the fresh wind on her face and a shade of all possible colors of Chi...
"Every time you feel your Chi becoming too intense for your body, you just have to emit it like this," said the woman.
She closed her hand. The Chi concentrated in her palm, a sphere of dense dark energy. Luci’El could clearly see the Chi, even with the blindfold, that glow dancing in her perception. She reproduced the gesture, first clumsily, then with more confidence. The Chi gathered in her small hand, then she opened her palm, releasing a butterfly made of energy, but golden in color, that flew away in the light.
"Ah!" exclaimed Luci’El, surprised and delighted.
The woman, in turn, opened her hand. A black butterfly escaped from her palm and fluttered around them.
Luci’El turned her head toward the woman, and her inner gaze captured the star on her forehead.
"Ah! You are also a chosen one?" said Luci’El, her voice full of wonder. "You have a star on your forehead!"
The woman nodded slightly. "Indeed, I have an inverted pentagram on my forehead."
Luci’El was all excited. She was almost jumping in place, her small hands beating the air. "It is the first time I see a person other than my mother here! I... Can I be your friend, madam?"
The woman remained silent for a long moment. Then she said: "Rather become the friend of my son. He is a rather agitated kid like you, and you are the same age."
Luci’El tilted her head. "Ah, okay. What is his name? Could you bring him here?"
The woman did not answer. She was looking at the landscape, her eyes lost in the horizon. The wind made her white hair dance around her inexpressive face.
The door opened with a crash.
"Persephone! Get away from my daughter!!!" shouted Agath.
