"Liam Heart, Dream Race: F-Rank Cursed Eye."
The announcer’s voice echoed throughout the hall.
Liam smiled wryly as he rose from his meditative state.
"You may return to your seat," the announcer said.
Liam nodded, stepped down from the stage, and walked back as the next student took his place.
Returning to his seat, he let out a long sigh.
"Damn..."
"You alright?" his best friend, Yogesh, asked quietly.
Yogesh had awakened as a Spirit Wolf, an A-Rank Dream Race, making him one of the most talented students in the academy.
"No... I’m not," Liam replied, shaking his head.
Yogesh simply patted him on the back. He knew better than anyone just how dangerous the Dream Dimension was.
"It’s okay. Just survive the trial period. I’ll do everything I can to help you."
Liam nodded in response.
The Trial Period lasted for seven days.
During those seven days, every newly awakened Dream Walker would be randomly transported into the Dream Dimension. Only by surviving the entire trial could they safely return to the real world.
After returning, they could freely enter and leave the Dream Dimension whenever they wished.
There were also Real World Dungeons where people could level up. However, compared to the endless opportunities within the Dream Dimension, they were far less rewarding. The Dream Dimension contained ancient inheritances, powerful treasures, rare evolutions, and countless secrets that simply couldn’t be found anywhere else.
Since everyone spawned at random locations, no one could predict what awaited them.
’Logically, a newly awakened Tier 0 Dream Race can only afford to die three times before their soul becomes too weak...’
Liam clenched his fists.
I have to survive these seven days... no matter what.
Soon, the awakening ceremony at Twilight Dream Academy came to an end. Every student had awakened their Dream Race, from powerful S-Rank races to the weakest F-Rank races.
The academy hall gradually fell silent as an elderly man walked onto the stage.
He had silver hair, calm blue eyes, and wore a long dark robe embroidered with the academy’s emblem.
He was the director of Twilight Dream Academy.
The students immediately became quiet.
The director looked across the hall before speaking.
"Congratulations on awakening your Dream Races."
"From today onward, your lives will be different. The Dream Dimension is a place filled with opportunities beyond imagination, but it is also a place where death is always close."
"Starting tonight, each of you will enter the Dream Dimension for the first time. This marks the beginning of your seven-day Trial Period."
"You will appear at random locations. Some of you may find safe areas, while others may find yourselves surrounded by danger. No one can predict where they will appear."
"You only have one goal during these seven days."
"Survive."
"It does not matter if you gain levels."
"It does not matter if you obtain treasures."
"It does not matter if you become stronger."
"Your first priority is staying alive."
He paused before continuing.
"I know that some of you are disappointed with the Dream Race you awakened."
Several students lowered their heads. Liam was one of them.
"Do not lose hope."
"After the Trial Period ends, you will be free to choose your own path."
"If your Dream Race has poor combat ability or little potential, you do not have to risk your life by entering the Dream Dimension regularly."
"The Alliance has opened countless Real World Dungeons over the years. Although their rewards cannot compare to those found in the Dream Dimension, they are much safer and still allow you to level up and improve your Dream Race."
"You may grow slowly, but slow progress is far better than losing your life."
He smiled gently.
"Remember, there is no shame in choosing safety. Every year, many people with weaker Dream Races become researchers, craftsmen, merchants, healers, teachers, and support specialists. Strength is not the only path to success."
The atmosphere in the hall became much lighter.
Many students who had awakened weaker races finally relaxed after hearing the director’s words.
The director raised his hand.
"Your Dream Marks have already been activated."
"When you return home tonight, enter a calm state and focus on your Dream Mark. It will guide your consciousness into the Dream Dimension."
"I wish every one of you good luck."
"I hope to see all of you alive seven days from now."
The students stood up and bowed respectfully.
With that, the opening ceremony officially came to an end.
Groups of students began leaving the academy while discussing their Dream Races and making plans for the night.
Liam and Yogesh also walked toward the academy gates together.
Yogesh and Liam walked together in silence until they reached the intersection where they had to part ways.
Only then did Yogesh break the silence.
"Please... survive, man. Please let us meet again after seven days."
Liam chuckled.
"Same to you, buddy. Come back after seven days."
He smiled as if everything was fine.
Yogesh felt a sharp pain in his heart. He knew the chances of Liam surviving with an F-Rank Cursed Eye were extremely low, yet Liam still managed to smile.
"I will."
Yogesh stepped forward and hugged him.
Liam returned the hug before the two went their separate ways.
A few minutes later, Liam arrived home.
Standing in front of the door, he took a deep breath.
He didn’t know what to say.
His mother, the only family he had left in this world, was waiting anxiously inside.
I’ll just lie for now. No matter what, I’ll survive these seven days and come back.
After making up his mind, Liam wiped away every trace of worry from his face before opening the door.
"Mom, I’m back."
The sound of hurried footsteps echoed through the house as his mother rushed over.
"Liam! How did it go?" she asked nervously.
Liam forced a smile.
"I’ll be back in seven days."
His mother froze for a moment before tears filled her eyes.
She misunderstood his words, believing he had awakened a powerful Dream Race that gave him confidence in surviving the Trial Period.
"Fortunately... fortunately..."
She hugged him tightly, tears of relief streaming down her face.
Liam silently hugged her back.
After a while, she wiped away her tears and smiled.
"Come on. I’ve already made your favorite dishes. Eat as much as you can. You won’t be home for the next seven days."
"Alright."
The two sat down and enjoyed dinner together.
Neither of them mentioned the Dream Dimension again.
Instead, they talked about ordinary things, laughing from time to time as if it were just another normal evening.
