Chapter 118: The Hunter Desires Blood (17)

For a moment, the scene was incredibly awkward.

Everyone stared in the direction Henrik had fled, somewhat stunned.

Deng Feizhou, who had been brimming with confidence earlier, now wore a grave expression.

"This guy is tougher to deal with than I imagined!"

He coughed lightly and looked at Wen Li.

"Wen Li, are you alright?"

"Uncle Deng, I'm fine. Thank you for stepping in."

"I didn't really help much."

Deng Feizhou shook his head, shifting his gaze to Fu Qian.

"Mister Fang is indeed a powerful transcendent. Counting today, he's already saved me several times."

Wen Li looked at Fu Qian. Knowing he preferred to keep a low profile, she didn't say much more.

Of course, she didn't know much to begin with.

"You did well too; don't sell yourself short. Facing a Demigod Grade monster and doing your best to find an opening to strike—that courage alone surpasses most."

At Deng Feizhou's words, Chen Mingfei immediately felt awkward.

As the standout of his generation in the Chen Family, he was already a genuine Tier 6 Transcendent. Yet his performance just now had been truly dismal.

The worst part was that Wen Li had seen it all...

A wave of irritation washed over Chen Mingfei, and he even found himself slightly glad that the men he'd brought had almost all died.

As for Fu Qian, Chen Mingfei didn't even dare glance at the mysterious man, his heart filled with lingering dread.

This guy looked completely average in strength. Who could have imagined he was this absurdly powerful?

He had actually managed to hold his ground against a crazed Henrik for so long.

Fu Qian's composure when facing a Demigod, the ruthless efficiency of his strikes—every scene replayed in Chen Mingfei's mind.

Thank god they hadn't actually clashed earlier; otherwise...

Even though he had the entire Chen Clan behind him, there was no guarantee this guy wasn't some lunatic who didn't care about consequences.

Fu Qian was probably the calmest person in the group.

He really hadn't used his full strength just now. Otherwise, a single Mythical Form Visceral Attack could have easily taken Henrik down on the spot.

His mission was to find the Blood of Thorns.

Since there was no sign of it on Henrik at all, he was better off quietly observing changes.

...

"Miss Wen!"

A shout came from the distance as a group of people rushed over in a flurry.

The two leading them were none other than Chen Mingda and the Night Watchers' Poker Face.

Startled by the mess covering the ground, the group came to a halt.

"We heard fighting over here and rushed over as fast as we could."

Chen Mingda remained relatively calm. He glanced around before finally resting his eyes on Chen Mingfei.

"Mingfei, did you encounter the target? Are you alright?"

"What else? Do you think we were just killing each other for fun?"

Chen Mingfei clearly didn't appreciate his older brother's concern. Having been stifled for so long, he had finally found an outlet to vent.

...

Chen Mingda frowned but said nothing, turning his head to look at Wen Li.

"Is Miss Wen alright?"

"Thank you for your concern; I'm fine!"

Wen Li shook her head, her emotions having mostly stabilized by now.

"Mister Deng is here too. What exactly happened? Were all these people killed by Henrik?"

Poker Face addressed Deng Feizhou. It seemed they already knew each other.

"Yes."

Deng Feizhou took a deep breath.

"The situation just now was incredibly dangerous. Henrik took heavy damage, but that only made him crazier. He's now practically at Demigod Grade strength."

"Demigod Grade—"

Poker Face was shocked.

"Yes. I also failed to stop him due to a momentary lapse in judgment."

Deng Feizhou shook his head.

"I thought I could pin him down, but he still managed to break free."

"You're being too modest. If it weren't for you, I'm afraid even Mingfei wouldn't have survived."

Chen Mingda chimed in from the side.

"I can't take the credit. Mingfei and the others surviving was mainly due to Mister Fang holding Henrik off."

Deng Feizhou pointed at Fu Qian.

Him?

At this, even Poker Face couldn't maintain his composure. He looked Fu Qian up and down, his gaze full of doubt and shock.

He naturally remembered the man; he had been present when Yuan Shan interrogated Fu Qian.

But no matter how he looked at it, Fu Qian still appeared to be a Low-Tier Transcendent. He couldn't imagine him going toe-to-toe with Henrik.

"It's true. If it weren't for Mister Fang, we likely would have been completely wiped out."

To think that was the case.

Poker Face gave Fu Qian a deep look, stepped to the side for a moment, then returned.

"Mister Fang, I just reported the situation here. Our director would like to see you. Do you have the time?"

Yuan Shan wanted to see him?

It made sense. The massive gap in his performance definitely made him look suspicious. A more hot-tempered person might have just arrested him on the spot.

"No problem."

Fu Qian blinked.

"Then we shouldn't delay."

Poker Face turned and called two people over.

"I'll lead a team to track Henrik. You two escort Mister Fang to the Base."

They were just showing the way, yet they needed two people to do it?

Were they afraid he would run away?

Fu Qian shook his head to himself.

"Can... can I come along?"

Just then, Wen Li asked cautiously from the side.

Come along?

Poker Face clearly wasn't familiar with Wen Li. Finding her request a bit strange, he simply assumed she was Fu Qian's companion and nodded immediately.

"Of course."

This Fang Xun was incredibly mysterious. Having a normal-looking person tag along might actually be for the best.

Was she really that scared?

Fu Qian looked at Wen Li as she moved closer to him, visibly letting out a sigh of relief.

But thinking about it, it made sense. Over the past few days, this girl had run into monsters everywhere she went. It was understandable that she'd feel this way.

It wasn't easy being a daughter of destiny!

...

Soon, the Night Watchers Base was in sight.

Fu Qian wasn't taken to the Interrogation Room from last time. Instead, he was led further up into what looked like an office area.

"Welcome."

The Night Watcher leading the way knocked on the door. Unlike last time, Yuan Shan was already waiting inside.

"Hello, Mister Fang."

Wen Li obediently waited outside while Fu Qian pushed the door open and walked in.

Yuan Shan set down her documents and looked up with a charming smile.

Someone's practically on a godlike killing spree in your jurisdiction, yet you're actually in a good mood?

Don't they evaluate your KPI?

"Mister Fang, you are quite mysterious. To think even I misjudged you last time. My apologies."

Gesturing for Fu Qian to sit down, Yuan Shan smiled at him.

"It's fine. I'm just a very low-profile person."

"Low-profile indeed. In fact, I have something rather interesting here."

Yuan Shan waved the document in her hand.

"Not long ago, a gentleman named Zha Yingjun came to us, claiming his car had been hijacked and he'd been knocked out."

"What's interesting is that my people looked into it.

And they found that while he was unconscious, he somehow still managed to attend a banquet. Isn't that interesting?"

"That's right, that was me."

Fu Qian looked completely candid.

Since Yuan Shan brought it up, he might as well admit it openly.

He didn't think the Night Watchers would cause trouble for him over such a minor thing.

"You certainly are honest, Mister Fang. May I ask why?"

Yuan Shan looked at him, amused.

"Because I needed to attend the banquet, but I didn't have an Invitation Letter."

"That is a reason, I suppose."

Yuan Shan nodded, actually looking as if she approved.

"Alright, let's get back to business."
