Blazing Rainbow personally knocking on our door... the old man actually hit the nail on the head. He might really be right,
Fu Qian thought as he gestured for Old Man Henry not to worry about worldly possessions.
What the old man obviously didn't know was that Fu Qian had already received special attention from that ancient Higher Existence more than once.
In fact, there was a high probability he still was.
Henry might not know that, but he clearly found Fu Qian's last remark a little grating.
Even though he couldn't refute it, it still stung his pride.
"Yuan Shan, if Mister Fang isn't in a hurry to leave, you can show him around."
His chosen response was simply to kick them out.
"It's getting late. I need to rest."
Despite her mentor's embarrassing behavior, Yuan Shan was more than happy to see the matter resolved this way. She agreed immediately and motioned for Fu Qian to follow.
Fu Qian gladly obliged, making no attempt to ask further questions.
The old man seemed eccentric, but a retiree of his caliber certainly knew where to draw the line.
They had already discussed enough of such a sensitive topic; he knew better than to press the issue.
...
"Do you really think those people are planning a special operation?"
Once they were out the door, Yuan Shan immediately glanced back toward the casino.
She still seemed to find their bizarre method of planning hard to believe.
"Fascinating, isn't it?"
Fu Qian didn't mind the idle chatter.
"It's a casino. There's always some grand spectacle unfolding. Maybe it will add another legend to the Sacred Night Capital. You aren't planning to turn them in, are you?"
"Do you think I'm that bored?"
Yuan Shan shot him a glare.
"That kind of thing is the police's problem."
"But it's hard to say. Midas completely lacks any transcendent traits, you know?"
Fu Qian spoke in the distinct tone of someone who enjoyed a good spectacle.
"Let the police figure that out."
Unfortunately for him, while Yuan Shan's grasp of theoretical knowledge was only average, her administrative skills were masterful. She answered without missing a beat.
"Besides, I'm here on vacation. It has nothing to do with me."
"Fair enough."
Fu Qian had always appreciated Chief Yuan's ability to keep her priorities straight.
"So, what are your plans? Are you leaving right away? You don't have to be polite."
Surprisingly, Yuan Shan hadn't forgotten her mentor's instructions and took the initiative to ask.
"It's rare for me to visit the legendary Sacred Night Capital. How could I leave so soon?"
Fu Qian had clearly already made up his mind.
"I've been exhausted lately. It's time I gave myself a vacation too."
Let's hope you didn't exhaust yourself working for The Bookstore,
Yuan Shan mused inwardly as she confidently led the way.
"Let's go. I'll show you where you're staying."
...
Chief Yuan wasn't overly extravagant, it seemed.
Shortly after arriving at Yuan Shan's property in the Sacred Night Capital, Fu Qian silently evaluated the place.
Though he had no doubt she could afford one, Chief Yuan hadn't gone so far as to buy a sprawling manor. It was simply a high-end apartment.
It was meticulously furnished, and despite allegedly sitting empty for over half a year, it was spotlessly clean.
"Anyway, regardless of everything else... thank you for your cooperation."
After giving Fu Qian a brief tour and finally leading him to the guest room, Chief Yuan hesitated before speaking with genuine sincerity.
"You're too polite. So, you really didn't know about your mentor's situation before this?"
Satisfied with the accommodations, Fu Qian waved off her gratitude and took the opportunity to ask.
"I had no idea."
Yuan Shan sighed.
"I used to think the nature of my mentor's power was just unique. I never thought there was a problem, let alone that it might fundamentally stem from the corruption of a higher entity."
"Is your worldview taking a hit?"
Fu Qian's method of comforting others was always rather unorthodox.
"You have to broaden your perspective. Who knows? We might all be in the same boat."
"As for him being unique, I think I've already experienced it firsthand. Old Man Henry seems to possess an innate ability to never provoke hostility."
"You noticed?"
Yuan Shan seemed mildly surprised, but she quickly nodded.
"That's only one of the manifestations, and it only applies to the first encounter within a specific timeframe. The direct consequence is that the guy has absolutely no concept of respecting others."
"I can imagine."
"Anyway, it's been a long night. Get some rest. I need to head out for a bit, so I might be back late."
Clearly unwilling to reveal too many of her mentor's secrets, Yuan Shan pointed toward the lightening sky outside.
You've had a long night yourself, complete with quite the emotional roller coaster,
Fu Qian thought to himself, though he didn't voice it.
For a transcendent, this level of fatigue was nothing.
He could even make a good guess as to where she was going.
...
Chief Yuan hadn't lied; the view from the apartment was truly spectacular.
After taking a shower to wash off the lingering stench of vice and gambling, Fu Qian stood casually by the window, admiring the morning scenery.
He was now entirely alone in the massive apartment.
Of course, that didn't mean he was actually going to take Yuan Shan's advice and rest.
Chief Yuan had gone home, and he was about to do the same.
The preparation phase was over. It was time to get down to business.
Taking a deep breath, a crimson light flared on Fu Qian's hand as he activated Homecoming.
...
Half-Step Moon.
In just an instant, Fu Qian was once again standing upon the jagged gravel amid the seemingly eternal, icy desolation.
The crimson moonlight enveloping the space rippled almost immediately.
Though the Red Moon's voice didn't ring out, he could still sense its elation.
It was clearly waiting for Fu Qian's next move.
Like anyone returning to their own home, Fu Qian made himself comfortable. He simply raised a hand, upon which a Pure White Ring gleamed brilliantly.
A trace of primeval permanence seemed to solidify upon it.
I want this!
His objective was clear. Since he couldn't tell them apart, he would just take them all.
The second portion of providence he had missed out on last time—he had finally come to collect.
...
Indeed. To Chief Yuan, bringing him here might have felt like marching him toward his death, filling her with apprehension.
But for Fu Qian, interacting with Old Man Henry had never been anything more than the first step of his plan.
What he sought went far beyond mere information about the Blazing Rainbow.
Once he confirmed that someone truly had an unusual connection with the Blazing Rainbow, he wanted to act right under Its nose.
The one tampering with his path of advancement was very likely a true ancient God.
Even though the entity seemed to have too many reservations to show Itself directly, the situation It had engineered was nothing short of vicious.
Even in the best-case scenario—where he crushed every obstacle in his path—he would likely still end up facing a blind gamble at the very end.
Given the opponent's Rank and methods, nearly any clue could be dismissed as deliberate misdirection. Nothing could be trusted at face value.
In light of such a grim situation, Fu Qian had decided to present the entity with more opportunities, giving It the stage to begin Its performance.
