When they arrived at the Small Town hospital, Veil's expression was incredibly grave.
Before they set out, she had even hoped this was just one of Fu Qian's jokes.
Unfortunately, right up until they arrived, he showed absolutely no sign of changing his mind.
Left with no choice, she could only bite the bullet and continue this hospital visit.
Then again, her grim expression didn't look out of place; the percentage of people going to a hospital beaming with smiles wasn't high to begin with.
Although it was the Small Town's hospital, it wasn't small. Residents from nearby towns likely came here for treatment as well.
Clearly, Veil had been here more than once. Without even needing to ask for directions, she led Fu Qian straight to the inpatient ward.
"It's here."
A moment later, outside one of the rooms, Veil gritted her teeth and pointed inside.
Fu Qian nodded. Under her intense gaze, he pushed the door open and walked right in.
It was a three-person ward, spacious and brightly lit.
In the bed nearest the window lay the rebellious young girl, Lotte, quietly staring out the glass in a daze.
Even when the door opened, she didn't react at all, not so much as turning her head.
Almost instantly, Fu Qian sensed Veil's breathing grow tight behind him.
Fu Qian stepped forward impassively and rapped his knuckles against the headboard.
Lotte finally reacted. Furrowing her brows, she turned around with a displeased look.
The moment she saw Fu Qian standing there, her heartbeat seemingly stopped.
"Ah!!!"
The next second, after reconfirming it was really his face, the rebellious girl shrieked and leapt out of bed as if her tail had been stepped on.
"Lotte!"
Veil hurriedly rushed forward from behind him and called out to her younger sister.
The rebellious girl stiffened, only just noticing her older sister.
"Mr. Fu Qian is here to visit you."
Seeing Lotte's hand already resting on the call bell, Veil quickly explained, signaling for her not to press it.
Knowing her sister's personality, pressing the bell definitely wasn't to summon a doctor, but to have her and Fu Qian kicked out.
Out of the ward, out of the hospital, and all the way out of the Small Town.
"Why are you here? You're supposed to be banned from this place, aren't you?"
Still recovering from her shock, Lotte glared at her sister. After a long moment, she spoke with a cold expression, her hand still firmly on the call bell.
"I—"
Meeting her younger sister's icy gaze, Veil opened her mouth, not knowing how to explain.
"I'll count to three. If you two don't leave, don't blame me for calling someone in."
Lotte stared at her sister without a shred of joy at their reunion, bluntly ordering them to leave.
All the color instantly drained from Veil's face.
"It's fine, press it."
Seeing that Veil actually wanted to retreat, Fu Qian made a gesture, signaling Lotte to do as she pleased.
Then, ignoring Lotte's reaction, he walked over to the window and looked outside.
There are absolutely no problems here!
Fu Qian thought.
In that brief moment just now, he had thoroughly scrutinized the rebellious girl's condition.
The facts proved there was nothing unusual about her.
Even the beast claw from their last encounter was now gone.
When Lotte turned around earlier, Fu Qian had noticed that the spot where her right hand used to be was completely empty.
This was presumably the 'treatment' Veil had mentioned.
Lotte obviously minded it very much; the way she had been lying down just happened to hide the amputated stump.
And clearly, having lost the limb grafting, Lotte's aura was completely that of an ordinary person.
This rebellious young girl hadn't undergone any new mutations simply by being in this peculiar hometown.
"Don't..."
Hearing Fu Qian's words, Veil cried out with a look of despair.
Lotte finally turned her head back around, her expression stiff.
After that very first glance, she hadn't dared to look in Fu Qian's direction again.
Evidently, their previous encounters had left her with a considerable psychological shadow.
Her knuckles were white from gripping the call bell so tightly, yet after hesitating for half a minute, the chime ultimately never sounded.
Biting her lip, Lotte silently withdrew her hand.
...
Witnessing this scene, Veil finally let out a sigh of relief.
However, she only got halfway through that sigh.
The next moment, an indescribable aura of danger erupted from beside her, madly spreading in all directions.
This—
In that instant, Veil's thoughts almost stagnated, but she still took a step forward, subconsciously blocking her sister's bed.
The source of this dangerous aura was none other than the nearby Fu Qian.
Staring at him blankly, Veil clearly couldn't understand his actions.
Her sister had clearly given up on reporting them, so there was no need to worry about being kicked out of the Small Town. Why the sudden murderous intent?
She really couldn't figure it out!
Behind Veil, Lotte was currently curled up into a ball, shivering uncontrollably.
In truth, as an ordinary person, her reaction to this Transcendent Tier aura wasn't as sensitive as her sister's.
Unfortunately, she was simply too close to Fu Qian. Bearing the brunt of it, even feeling a tiny sliver of that aura was already unbearable for her.
"What happened?"
Just then, the ward door was pushed open from the outside, and a middle-aged nurse hurried in.
She was also an ordinary person, likely drawn here by Lotte's earlier scream.
"Is there a problem? Are they...?"
The nurse glanced at Fu Qian and Veil. The confrontational posture between the two clearly made her feel a bit strange.
"I—"
Amidst Veil's suddenly tense breathing, Lotte hesitated for a moment before finally shaking her head.
"My sister came to see me. It's nothing."
"That's good. Remember to call me if you need anything."
Probably seeing the obvious resemblance between Veil and Lotte, the nurse didn't suspect much further. After leaving a word of instruction, she exited the ward.
"You two chat."
Seeing the atmosphere plunge back into silence, Fu Qian didn't wait for Veil to speak and walked straight out, leaving the two sisters looking at each other in dismay.
His previous actions, naturally, weren't meant to frighten the rebellious young girl.
In fact, Fu Qian was very certain that Lotte lacked the guts to report him.
People in their rebellious phase were often not nearly as fearless as they imagined when faced with a real threat.
As for the grudges and grievances between the two sisters, Fu Qian had even less interest in getting involved.
The reason he had suddenly released his Demigod Realm aura just now was for one purpose only—to strike the grass to startle the snake.
Although nothing along their walk here, nor Lotte in the ward, had seemed strange or eerie, Fu Qian didn't want to just end things there.
Therefore, he didn't bother hiding anything and directly released his Demigod Realm aura to see if it would provoke an abnormal reaction.
Ordinary people weren't sensitive to it anyway, so it wouldn't cause any chaos, nor did he need to worry about being discovered.
And in reality, there was indeed a reaction.
Right when his aura swept across the entire hospital, a certain spot gave Fu Qian a different feeling.
It wasn't that some Transcendent Tier power had appeared. Quite the opposite; when his aura swept past that area, it actually dissipated without a sound.
It was as if it had hit a void.
