The feeling of traversing worlds was one that Ark could hardly put into words. His vision was dark, and he could not hear a single sound.

In one moment, it felt as though his body and soul were being stretched, and in the next moment he suddenly appeared in the real world, blinded by a bright white light.

He blinked a few times, his eyes adjusting to the glow, just before he heard the sound of firing guns.

Ark glanced at his side, only to lock eyes with two girls, his sister Bronya, and Cracker. They were hunched over, wrapped up in his favourite blanket—

They both gazed at him with blank stares, a drop of sweat sliding down their faces.

Ark looked down...

Was that his phone?

’How did they guess my password??’

Then his eyes suddenly widened as he made the connection in his head. Why else would his sisters be in his room, bent over as they stared at his screen?

"I told you not to use my—keh!" Ark was interrupted by Cracker jumping into his arms and tackling him to the bed.

"Ark is back!" She said with glee, laughing atop him.

Bronya was sitting by the side, a small smile on her face as well. "Welcome back, Mad Skeleton."

Ark let out a sigh. This wasn’t fair... how was he supposed to express his anger when they smothered him with so much love?

He got off the bed, with Cracker still clutching to his neck, then held her up with one hand, while scratching his head.

"It’s good to be back..."

Then he paused. "Wait, Mad Skeleton?"

If he wasn’t mistaken... Bronya had just called him the Mad Skeleton, didn’t she?

"Mmhm!" Cracker nodded enthusiastically. "We both saw the video, you went boom like an RPG, and then you blew up the entire thing!"

Ark blinked. "What are you even talking about?" He turned to Bronya for a proper explanation.

But she gestured for him to follow as they left his room and moved into the dining room.

"You came at the right time, we were just about to have breakfast." She said as she slipped on her apron and stepped into the kitchen.

Ark had already eaten in Eden, but he did not dare utter a single word. Saying he had eaten would be as good as signing his death warrant...

He sat down in the room, on a chair facing the kitchen, while Cracker sat next to him, her feet swaying in the air.

"So what is this talk about the Mad Skeleton?"

"Well..." Bronya placed a finger on her cheek, and then smiled, her blue eyes gleaming with mischief.

Ark noticed that the dark circles she always had underneath her eyes were nearly gone, and her skin looked much healthier and full of colour.

Now that she had time off work, and was having better sleep, Bronya looked far more beautiful than she had looked in ages.

But it was still a far cry from how she would look in the future as her health further improved.

Two weeks was certainly not enough to wash off many years of suffering...

She cracked a few eggs into a bowl and began to whisk it. "Before we get into that, did you happen to do anything..." She looked up from the bowl. "Dangerous while you were in Eden?"

The temperature in the kitchen seemed to rise. It was probably the gas cooker...

Ark adjusted his collar. "Everything in Eden is dangerous, you know?"

She gave him a look. Of course he knew that was not what she was asking, she wanted to know if he had gone the extra mile...

For example, take a quest that all players who had previously taken vanished.

Or maybe walking into a golem-infested cave despite warnings from a more experienced adventurer...

"Of course I did not!" Ark firmly said, leaning back on his chair and briefly closing his eyes. "I will never do something as reckless as—"

"Fighting the vice commander of the players association?" Bronya cut in.

"Exactly. I would never do something so reckless--" Ark’s voice slowly trailed off. "Wait, how did you know??"

He opened his eyes, only to see Bronya frowning at him with both hands on her waist.

It was at that moment that, like the little demon lord she was, Cracker placed a phone in front of him, with a video playing at max volume.

Ark could see himself... fighting Tristan.

He stared at it for a long moment, then stroked his jaw.

"These AI generation companies are really going too far these days—Eck!"

He did not know how Bronya had managed to leave the kitchen without him noticing, but she was upon him in a second, massaging her fists into both sides of his head.

"It wasn’t my fault... the man was the one who picked a fight with me!"

"And you couldn’t walk away? Do you want to die?"

Ark groaned in pain as her fists dug into his skull, but it was all a facade, it actually felt more like a soothing massage...

He was a player after all, while Bronya was a normal human being. If it was Cracker, then it would have been a different case.

After she had vented out her frustrations on his poor skull, and Cracker had laughed to her fill, Bronya returned to the kitchen, muttering something underneath her breath.

Cracker, on the other hand, turned to face him, and for whatever reason, she was staring at him with her signature doe eyes.

She wanted something.

"By the way, just for the record, I think you did great!" She made a heart shape with her fingers.

Ark arranged his hair as he glared at her. "Bold of you to say that after laughing at my misfortune."

"Ehehehe..." she chuckled nervously, before stretching out her hand.

Ark stared at her hands, and then at her.

Wave wave...

She smiled as she waved them in front of him.

Ark’s eyes narrowed.

Wave wave...

"What?"

Cracker’s expression immediately faltered. "My souvenir!" Her face turned pale. "Don’t tell me you forgot?!"

Ark’s lower lip twitched. Cracker was bold for sure... Bronya was hardly on social media, so it was likely her that showed her the video.

The audacity to ask for a gift after the stunt she pulled was baffling.

"I bought a gift for a bird, not a rat--" Ark felt Bronya’s piercing stare and coughed.

Then he waved his hands in the air, silver sparks materializing just before the gifts appeared in his hands, all three of them barely boxed up.

"Bronya, can you come over, I also got you something."

"Really?" Bronya seemed a little surprised. "But aren’t items in Eden expensive?" Her brows furrowed. "You should save the money you make..."

"Don’t worry about it, I made quite a lot from my first mission."

Ark passed them their boxes, and Cracker clapped in anticipation. The moment they opened them, their eyes widened as they were greeted by the soft glow of the jewellery.

Cracker had gotten the bracelet, while Bronya got the necklace.

Without wasting a second, Cracker picked up her gift and wore it. He did not need to ask if she liked it, because she was dancing around the room seconds later while saying thank you.

Bronya, on the other hand, was more careful, because only she knew the true value of the gift.

She stared at it for a few seconds, before gradually picking it out of the box. The icy blue gems glittered like diamonds, although Ark knew they were much more valuable.

"Can you help me put it on?"

Ark eyed her warily. Bronya acting like a regular woman?

It smelled like a trap. But regardless, he picked up the necklace and unhooked its clasp.

Then he walked behind her and carefully placed it around her neck.

Bronya picked up the large pendant, and stared at her reflection in it, before smiling softly and saying in a low tone.

"It is perfect..."

"If you or Cracker ever find yourselves in any trouble..."

Towers and Dungeons could spring up at any location, and at any time.

When players failed to conquer these towers in Eden, a break would occur in Venaris...

"... rub the gem and hide." Then he said in a serious tone. "I swear, I will be there..."

Bronya nodded with a small smile. "I will."

When Bronya was done cooking, Ark told them stories about his adventures in Eden, leaving out the more... dangerous parts.

And then after dinner, they ate the tarts he had brought back from Eden for dessert.

Ark ended up staying with them for only two days, before he had to leave them again, to visit the land of impossibilities.
