Chapter 1861: The Rampant Sister
Varreyn was a large city, so minor conflicts were a constant. But they almost always fell into one of two categories.
If the conflict was minor, everything was settled right there in an alley, on the street, or at the bar in some tavern. Nothing on a large scale ever happened that could disturb many other monsters.
If that wasn’t enough, the monsters were free to head to one of the arenas to settle things in a contest of sheer strength or to go outside the city walls for the same purpose.
That is precisely why the Renegades didn’t react to it at all. For any of them to intervene, something truly major would have to happen.
The Blood Fangs vs. the Grad Family, such an event certainly met their criteria.
Laroza opened her eyes and looked up at the wall. The upper level of Varreyn was in that direction.
“Well, well, how much time has passed? Ten days? I thought he’d cause trouble much sooner.”
Krador was sitting at a table by the window at that moment. A scroll lay before him, and he held a quill in his hand.
He turned around, looking at her expectantly.
“Are you going to get involved?”
Laroza shrugged.
“I don’t know. As long as it’s their personal feud, I don’t see the point. I doubt the other two will decide to come here just for that. However… if they start fighting at full strength, I’ll have no choice but to do so.”
Tap.
She put her feet up on the table, closing her eyes as her hands fell onto the purple pillows to her left and right.
“Agh… I don’t want to deal with this. I’m sure it’s just some silly conflict again. Anyway, until they destroy half of the upper level, I’m not even going to budge.”
Krador had expected that response. He knew Laroza well. That was precisely why he’d let her stay at his house for so long, even though she’d done nothing useful except drain his supplies of food and drink.
“I see. I shouldn’t have expected anything else from you.” He turned toward the window, his eyes fixed on a single point. “But I’m afraid trouble is now inevitable.”
The ice vortex swept across the dark sky, appearing to some as a cold star and to others as a destructive meteor.
…
In fact, every resident of the upper level knew exactly what it was, but not everyone had enough time to prepare.
Whooooooooosh!
With terrifying force, the ice vortex reached the surface, crashing down directly onto Kessa, who realized too late that she was the target.
“Kessa!” Mudaro shouted, reaching out toward her, but he was forced to defend himself against the ice crystals flying toward him. “Damn it!”
Tap.
Amelia waved her hand, creating a protective barrier in front of Markol and his servants. Her gaze was fixed on the cloud of frosty vapor that had filled the impact site.
She narrowed her eyes as soon as everyone saw the silhouette familiar in this place.
The girl with spiky blue hair and green eyes was standing on Kessa. Her heavy boot was pressing Kessa’s face into the ground as she wore a wide, sadistic smirk.
Unlike Amelia, who, except during training, wore elegant dresses, this girl was dressed boldly, largely copying the style of the humans. She wore short shorts, a tank top, and a gray jacket lined with white fur on the inside and featuring a high collar.
“Hahahahaha!” The girl laughed, baring her fangs to everyone. “What’s the matter, Kessa? Do you enjoy tormenting my sweet brother? Kha! Let’s see how much you’ll like this!”
Thump!
Without hesitation, the girl stomped on Kessa’s head once more.
“Gha!” Kessa’s eyes widened in pain as she coughed up blood.
The next moment, a massive shadow appeared to the girl’s right. Mudaro’s red eyes were focused as his fist moved straight toward the girl.
In a relaxed manner, the girl leaned back, letting his fist pass over her, before darting to the side, closer to Markol and Amelia.
Amelia turned toward the girl.
Everyone knew who she was, Nukra, the youngest member of the Grad Family and the youngest of three sisters.
However, although the Spirit of Eternal Winter chose the next family member only if they were younger than everyone else, this did not always reflect that person’s true strength.
Nukra had been part of the Grad Family for only ten years. Usually, that wasn’t enough time to master even 50% of their Legacy Artifact’s capabilities, let alone their other abilities and power levels.
But for Nukra, this wasn’t a problem. What was an impossible obstacle for Markol was, for Nukra, just another barrier she would soon shatter with a punch.
“Nukra…” Amelia’s voice was soft. “Are you back?”
“Of course I am!” Nukra replied energetically. “Romara told me everything. She said Vador was in trouble, but you found someone who can heal him! She said it’s a Phantom! I came here to see it, but instead I saw my beloved brother being mistreated!”
Although Nukra addressed Markol as her brother, this was an exception to the rule.
She had agreed to accept the Legacy Artifact and become part of the Grad Family, but she refused to consider Vador and Romara her father and mother. She addressed everyone except Markol by their first names.
Amelia’s expression darkened. “Still, even now, she didn’t come to help my father or find out how he was doing. She wanted to meet a Phantom…”
Then, Amelia shook her head.
‘No, I have to put those thoughts aside. It doesn’t matter right now! Nukra is here, which means the situation has stabilized. Mudaro and Kessa no longer have the upper hand.’
Step.
Amelia stepped forward, taking her place to Nukra’s left. The two sisters stood in stark contrast to one another – one calm, the other fiery.
“Even though you didn’t come here for the same reason I did, I don’t think you’d refuse to join me, as two sisters, in fighting these bastards who decided to trespass on our territory, would you?”
Nukra waved her hand as the temperature around her dropped sharply.
“Fine, though I could defeat these weaklings all by myself.”
Meanwhile, Kessa got up from the ground, and Mudaro assumed a fighting stance.
They were about to lunge at each other when…
Tremble! Tremble! Tremble!
A powerful pillar of energy burst forth from the Grad Family’s residence, shaking the air and shooting straight up into the night sky.
