Chapter 1862: Work with Us!
Kessa and Mudaro were powerful and dangerous monsters. Not because they could easily overwhelm Markol with their aura, but because they were both leaders of the Blood Fangs.
They earned their place at the upper level of Varreyn mainly by taking on hunting and assassination contracts. It depended on who their target was.
Basically, they were powerful mercenaries whom anyone who wanted to get rid of an enemy or competitor would turn to, and who were willing to pay a hefty sum for it.
Sure, money alone wasn’t enough to reach the upper level, but the Blood Fangs’ influence allowed them to do so.
Their selection process for joining the organization clearly demonstrated this. It was one of the strictest and most lengthy. Kessa and Mudaro tried to recruit only the most talented and ruthless individuals into their ranks.
As leaders, they had proven themselves quite capable, but that in no way guaranteed that their attack on the Grad Family would be successful.
Especially after Nukra appeared.
In his prime, Vador was the most dangerous member of the Grad Family, but since he was ill and significantly weakened, his strength was now irrelevant, as he was unable to fight due to exhaustion.
Everyone at the upper level knew that Amelia was currently the strongest, but… Nukra was a special case.
She had progressed too quickly and rarely appeared at the Grad Family residence. Every time she returned home, she grew stronger, and this time was no exception.
Step.
Nukra stepped forward, her green eyes narrowing like those of a predator spotting its prey.
“I’ll take on the big guy, you don’t mind, do you?”
Amelia’s calm expression remained as the frost mist thickened around her palm.
“Sure. The main thing is to show them they don’t belong here. This is our family’s territory, and we’re not accepting guests right now.”
Mudaro and Kessa exchanged glances. They had a chance of winning, at least, that’s what they thought. But after Nukra’s arrival, their confidence was dwindling.
“Alright…” Nukra growled, preparing to attack.
Tremble. Tremble. Tremble.
At that very moment, a violent tremor rippled across the ground, sending shivers down everyone’s spine on the upper level.
Everyone was affected, the servants, Markol, the Blood Fang members, and even Amelia, Nukra, Kessa, and Mudaro were no exception.
Immediately, everyone turned around, directing their gaze upward.
The white energy pillar moved upward in erratic bursts, like an engine trying to regain its former power.
“F-Father…” Amelia murmured as her eyes widened.
Although Nukra didn’t feel the same way about Vador as Amelia did, she had always respected his strength and his drive to improve. That was something she strived for as well.
“Damn… Isn’t he supposed to be terminally ill right now?” Nukra muttered, impressed.
Step.
Kessa and Mudaro took a step back. They weren’t ready to fight someone with such a powerful aura.
But soon they realized what had actually happened.
“Hmm?” Kessa hummed, watching as the energy pillar began to rapidly shrink. “Is that all…?”
Mudaro frowned. He understood the situation.
“Kessa,” his voice dropped to a whisper. “We have to fight them right now and capture Adam Vinter. This is our last chance before Vador regains his strength.”
It was the right decision. They had to try to carry out their mission right here and now.
However, Mudaro made one mistake.
Whooooooosh.
Nukra darted forward, and in the next instant, she appeared right in front of Mudaro. But this wasn’t a rush attack. Her hands were down, and her expression had shifted from one of concentration to one of excitement.
“Is that true?!” she exclaimed, a touch of madness in her voice. “What you just whispered to that bitch. Is that really true?!”
Taken by surprise, Mudaro recoiled, confused.
If Nukra had attacked him, he would have sensed it and reacted, at least his instincts would have kicked in, but she didn’t attack, not now.
“What exactly are you talking about?” Mudaro asked, shocked that she had heard their whispers. Amelia, who was standing next to Nukra, couldn’t make out Mudaro’s words, since he knew how quietly they had to speak.
With fire in her eyes, Nukra pointed at the residence.
“The Phantom that Vador is treating right now – is it really Adam Vinter?”
Kessa and Mudaro exchanged glances. They didn’t understand why this particular detail was so important to Nukra.
“Yes.” Mudaro nodded deeply. “We came here to capture Adam Vinter!”
As soon as he said it, Nukra’s eyes widened even more.
It took Kessa and Mudaro just a fraction of a second for a cunning plan to form in their minds.
“Hey!” Kessa shouted. “It looks like you know who he is. Help us capture him and hand him over to the Befallen Crown! We’re ready to split the reward evenly!”
“Yes!”
Mudaro exclaimed, clenching his fist with complete confidence that they’d found a solution.
“The three of us can handle him easily, and a spot at the Dark Shore is guaranteed! You don’t care about that family anyway, do you?”
A few moments later, Nukra’s excitement subsided as she nodded.
“Indeed, I joined the Grad Family because it was a good opportunity for me to become stronger.”
“Great! Then let’s work together!” Kessa smiled broadly.
“But I have one question.”
Nukra looked up at Mudaro, who towered before her. She had a kind and innocent expression.
“What makes you think I’d work with weaklings like you?”
Her voice was laced with coldness and palpable contempt.
“Agh…?”
Mudaro and Kessa looked confused. Just a moment ago, everything had been fine. They were certain they’d already convinced Nukra to work with them.
BLAST!
Before Mudaro could react, Nukra’s fist slammed into his massive chest. The difference in their sizes was almost comical, but raw power didn’t always depend solely on size.
“AGH!”
A stream of blood gushed from Mudaro’s mouth as the droplets immediately turned into ice crystals due to the low temperature.
The impact sent Mudaro flying backward, causing him to slam into the surface again and again.
