Endless Extraction in a Game-Like World
Chapter 389: Preparation For AscensionAfter dealing with Lena, Sylvia flew across the city in search of her mother.
She eventually found Selena standing on a rooftop, her crimson eyes scanning the horizon for any remaining threats. However, the moment Selena spotted Sylvia descending toward her, the tension in her expression disappeared and relief washed over her face.
"Sylvia!"
She immediately rushed forward and pulled her daughter into a tight embrace.
"I was so worried about you."
"I’m fine, Mom." Sylvia hugged her back with a warm smile before glancing toward the distance. "Let’s go meet Caelus and the others."
Selena nodded, and the two of them soon flew toward the gathering point Caelus had designated.
When they arrived, Sylvia quickly spotted Caelus standing in the center of a large group. However, what caught her attention most were the two people standing closest to him.
His parents.
Sylvia glanced at her own mother before a shy expression gradually formed on her face.
Their parents were finally going to meet face to face!
"My son has grown so much," Elena Kross said, tears welling up in her eyes as she looked at Caelus. "I always knew you were special, Caelus, but this..."
She gestured toward the sky where demons had once filled the air.
"You saved the entire world."
Victor Kross placed a firm hand on his son’s shoulder, his expression filled with pride.
"I’m proud of you, son. More proud than words can express."
Hearing their words, Caelus smiled faintly. He had been so focused on growing stronger and protecting everyone that he hadn’t had the time to see his parents in months.
"Thanks, Dad. Thanks, Mom."
Just then, Selena approached the group with Sylvia by her side.
Elena’s eyes immediately lit up when she noticed them.
"Oh, it’s my daughter Sylvia! Come here!"
Before Sylvia could react, Elena grabbed both of her hands with an enthusiastic smile.
"Mom, please..." Caelus rubbed his forehead helplessly.
Selena stepped forward with an elegant smile and offered a polite greeting.
"I’m Selena, Sylvia’s mother. It’s wonderful to finally meet you."
Elena’s eyes sparkled at her words.
"Please, call me Elena!"
Within moments, the two women were chatting like old friends. They moved off to the side and began talking animatedly about everything and nothing, leaving Caelus and Sylvia to watch them from nearby.
After a while, Elena leaned closer to Selena with a mischievous grin.
"So... when do you think we should start planning the wedding?"
Selena laughed softly.
"I was just about to ask the same thing."
Hearing this, Caelus could only stare at the two mothers with a helpless expression while Sylvia stood beside him, their hands intertwined.
"They’re already talking about marriage."
Sylvia squeezed his hand a little tighter, and her cheeks turned slightly pink.
"I wouldn’t mind."
Caelus turned to look at her.
She met his gaze with a warm smile, her expression carrying no hesitation whatsoever.
They were only eighteen, but Sylvia had already made up her mind long ago. The moment Caelus asked, she would marry him without hesitation.
Their quiet moment was interrupted when Chad approached with the members of his Golden Sword Guild following behind him. His armor was still dented from the battle, but a wide grin stretched across his face.
"Caelus! You absolute monster!" Chad slapped him on the back. "You really saved the entire planet with a snap of your fingers!"
"It wasn’t just me," Caelus replied. "Sylvia handled half the world."
Hearing that, Chad glanced at Sylvia before shuddering slightly.
"Yeah, I heard. The demons on our side just vanished into thin air. You two are terrifying."
A moment later, Candy walked over with her guild trailing behind her. She was still chewing bubblegum, her expression remaining as calm and indifferent as ever.
"Not bad," she said simply.
Caelus smirked at her underwhelming praise.
"That’s all you’ve got?"
Candy simply continued chewing her gum without answering.
Before Caelus could say anything else, Freya bounced over with Ayame and Seraphin Lin close behind. Her father, the chairman of the Lumina Conglomerate, followed them with his entourage of important figures.
"Big Brother Origin!"
Freya immediately tackled Caelus with a hug.
"That was so cool! Before, I told you that you looked like a Final Boss, but this time, you looked like the DLC boss!"
"DLC boss?" Caelus’s lips twitched at her words.
DLC bosses were most of the time harder than the bosses in the base game, so what she said actually made sense.
Freya’s father stepped forward soon afterward and offered Caelus a respectful nod.
"Mr. Kross, on behalf of the Conglomerate and our allies, I want to express our deepest gratitude. You saved billions of lives today."
Caelus nodded in acknowledgment.
Nearby, Elder Sterling stood apart from the crowd with a serious expression. He had already appointed someone to oversee Earth’s recovery in his absence, ensuring that the planet wouldn’t be left without leadership after they departed.
Dickenson approached next, his massive frame casting a shadow over everyone nearby. Commander Valeria walked beside him, her silver armor finally cleaned of the demon blood that had stained it during the invasion.
"Caelus Kross," Dickenson said gruffly, "the Golden Light Guild owes you a debt we can never repay."
Valeria nodded in agreement.
Lunari and Marcus soon came forward as well, both still wearing their holy vestments. The young priestess clasped her hands together before bowing deeply.
"The Church will never forget what you did today. You are truly blessed by the heavens."
Caelus looked around at everyone gathered before him.
His family.
His friends.
His allies.
His faction members.
They had all survived.
Seeing everyone safe, Caelus finally felt some of the tension leave his body.
"Alright, everyone," he called out. "Let’s go back to the Path to Worlds."
A chorus of agreements rang out throughout the gathering.
One by one, people began activating their return functions and disappearing in flashes of light. The guild members departed first, followed by the important figures and then the various faction members who had gathered around them.
Eventually, only Caelus and Sylvia remained.
They floated high above Manhattan, looking down at the world they had just saved. Below them, the city was slowly returning to life as people emerged from shelters and began assessing the damage left behind by the invasion.
"I wish we could bring Earth with us," Sylvia said softly.
Caelus nodded slowly as he stared at the familiar city below.
"Yeah. Me too."
For a moment, neither of them spoke.
Caelus continued looking at the city lights flickering below before suddenly frowning.
"What if the Tier 2 World isn’t as technologically advanced as Earth? I would hate to lose my phone."
Sylvia turned to stare at him in disbelief.
"That’s your concern right now?"
"Yes," he replied without hesitation.
Sylvia was completely speechless for several seconds before finally sighing.
"Well... we can use our powers to make a world technologically advanced either way, right?"
Caelus considered her words before slowly nodding.
"That does sound reasonable. Maybe there will be at least some technology there."
His expression gradually became more serious as he looked toward the distant stars.
"But things aren’t going to get easier now. In fact, they’re going to become infinitely harder."
