Chapter 765: Many Uninvited Guests

Reverse Vaan was tempted to stay and play for a bit. However, time was not on his side.

’Well, there’s always next time.’

The man thought before urging his chariot to fly toward the east. Since the four people on the ground thought he would join them, they were surprised to see him leave without saying a word or a greeting.

"Isn’t that... Vaan?" Lavinia frowned. "Did he not recognize us?"

"He did," Fran replied. "I saw him look at us with recognition."

"Maybe he needs to do something important?" Elaine commented. "Something that takes priority over talking to us?"

Cairo didn’t say anything. He didn’t like the way Vaan looked at his sister, Lavinia. It was the kind of look one would give a person they viewed as someone beneath them.

The malice behind that gaze was something he could discern from his location. Alex had introduced Vaan to him before, and he believed that he was a good judge of character. but, the man he saw wasn’t the same person he saw back then.

Although he didn’t know why one of Lavinia’s friends would give her that look, he made a mental note to have a talk with "Vaan" at a later time.

"Should we follow him?" Lavinia proposed.

"No," Cairo replied. "Let’s head north."

The Catkin’s sixth sense was telling him that heading east would be very dangerous. He felt that they must follow where the wind was blowing, which was north.

Lavinia and Fran glanced at each other before nodding at the same time. They decided to travel with Cairo and Elaine to head north, where the capital city of the Kingdom of Faelarun stood.

Since Vaan had a chariot that could fly, he could easily head anywhere he wanted.

After traveling for thirty more minutes, Reverse Vaan finally landed his chariot on the peak of a mountain.

"This should be the place..." Vaan muttered before taking out a silver compass.

The needle of the compass was spinning like a pinwheel, proving that he had indeed arrived at the right location.

He then took out a stack of paper talismans from his pocket before throwing it high up in the air.

Then, as if coming to life on their own, these paper stacks flew to different locations in the mountain, plastering themselves there.

A moment later, magical lines connected these talismans together, forming a magic circle in the skies above the mountain that only lasted for a few seconds before disappearing completely.

"That’s one down." Reverse Vaan sighed. "Now, three more to go. It just sucks that I need to head back west when I’ve already been there."

Reverse Nessia told Vaan that he had to place the talismans in the proper order for them to work.

If he placed the talismans in the west first because it was convenient, the magical formation would not trigger properly.

As such, Vaan once again took off to the skies and headed west. After he was done there, he would go to the south. Fortunately, that was the last. He would be done after planting the last talismans.

After that, they could finally take over the entire island of Hy-Brasil.

Or at least, that was the plan.

"Well, it will work out somehow," Reverse Vaan muttered. "Probably."

A few minutes after Reverse Vaan headed to his next destination, two people appeared at the top of the mountain as if they had teleported there.

"I guess you weren’t lying." The little devil that sat on Himea’s shoulder smirked. "Looks like Reverse Alex is really planning something big."

"Should we mess it up?" Himea inquired of the other lady, who was standing beside her.

"No," Efa replied. "We need to deal with them here. Otherwise, they will find other opportunities to cross over to our world."

"But you said they have a way of crossing over to Arcana anytime they wanted," the Little Devil stated in return.

"Yes, they can cross over to this world. However, certain conditions must be met," Efa replied. "They cannot stay here for a long time under those conditions. But if they get hold of Hy-Brasil, things will be different. They can turn this island into an anchor point, which would allow them to stay on our world without limit.

"They can also use this island’s ability to travel anywhere in the world, making it a very flexible base of operations."

"Should we really take the risk?" Himea inquired. "If Alex fails, this world will be compromised."

"Oh, don’t worry about that," Efa answered. "We have already called for backup."

"Backup?" Himea frowned. "Are they strong?"

Efa didn’t answer. Instead, she smiled faintly.

"...That smile is annoying," the Little Devil protested. "Just spill the beans already!"

"No." Efa shook her head. "It will be best if we teach those people who freely cross over our world a lesson they will never forget. That way, they will think twice before causing trouble here."

"Then what should we do next?" Himea asked. "Since we can’t take away the talismans, we should be doing something else, right?"

"We head southeast," Efa replied. "We are going to pick up Evangeline and Latifa. Then, after that, we bring them to where Alex is."

Himea nodded. "One last thing, Efa. Who are you, really? No... what are you?"

"Good question," Efa replied. "I also thought I knew myself until half a year ago. It turns out that I wasn’t just an orphan who grew up in the Floating Islands of Thaloria."

"That doesn’t answer our question." The Little Devil narrowed his eyes.

"Let’s just say that I don’t know the answer yet." Efa shook her head. "All I know is that I was born to help Alex. That is my purpose in life. Aren’t you the same as me, Himea?"

"No," Himea replied. However, she didn’t bother to explain any further due to one of the shackles that bound her. "Let’s just go find Evangeline and Latifa."

"Okay," Efa replied before a pair of angelic wings appeared behind her.

At the same time, a pair of devil-like wings unfurled behind Himea’s back.

The two then flew across the sky and headed southeast.

Both of them weren’t affected by the Synchronization Rate, so they could move around without being worried about someone affecting their minds and bodies.

Their purpose for coming to Hy-Brasil was to help Alex.

High above the clouds in the sky, unseen by anyone, a man wearing a cloak hovered.

He was holding a lamp in his left hand, and a staff in his right. His gaze was calm, yet there was a tinge of amusement that tugged at the corner of his lips.

"I seem to have many uninvited guests in my challenge," the cloaked man muttered. "Then again, I guess this, too, is part of destiny. I wonder though... just how will this trial end for the challengers?"

Without saying another word, the cloaked man vanished. He was merely an observer, after all.

So, even if things went out of hand, he would not step in and help the challengers, who were about to face a spike in difficulty to their challenge that they never even saw coming.
