_______

Kael stood before the fallen undead with a weird look on his face. He ignored the survivors who had been attracted by the ruckus caused by the swift battle and were pointing toward him from the second floor while whispering among themselves.

Instead, his entire focus was on the matter at hand.

'Now, how do I go about this?'

He had been so excited by the idea of acquiring a new Talent, one that would be further amplified by his own impossible Talent, that he hadn't even considered how he was going to claim it for himself.

'It isn't that I'm going to have to eat it, right?'

Looking at the monster's massive corpse, Kael almost retched, especially because of the disgusting stench it emitted. But he forced the feeling down and thought more about it.

'Or do I only have to swallow its mana core? But that wouldn't make sense.'

It was in the middle of thinking that Kael noticed something unusual. He had gotten so used to tuning Jinx out that he hadn't even noticed when the little snake stopped trying to gain his attention.

Only now did he realize that she was staring intently at the fallen undead, a quiet hunger burning in her golden eyes. And she wasn't alone. Even Seris was watching the corpse sharply, and...

'Aegis?'

Kael almost gasped when he saw the lazy male awake, his eyes also fixed on the corpse.

'Is there perhaps something they're sensing that I'm not aware of? But how do I handle this then?'

He almost wanted to scratch his head in frustration. The Talent he had been chasing for two days had finally fallen into his lap, yet he had no idea how to claim it.

It was in the middle of brain storming that his eyes caught sight of his spatial ring.

'Perhaps?'

The dim glow in his dark-as-night eyes slowly brightened the more he thought about the idea that had popped into his mind.

'Won't know unless I try.'

Having made up his mind, he moved closer to the corpse, covered it with his perception, and willed it to disappear into his ring.

With a faint silver flash, the corpse vanished instantly.

'Nice! Now, the system said not to summon the kids into reality. But what if they can access the space inside the ring? I'm not sure if that's even possible, but it's worth a try. Though... it'd be better to test it somewhere with fewer eyes watching.'

Kael turned toward his sister, about to say something, when a faint premonition suddenly washed over him.

His eyes darted to his side, and he was shocked to find Jinx wasn't there.

'What...?'

His eyes widened in realization, and he roared inwardly.

'No!'

At the same time, he hurriedly extended his perception into the ring, just in time to find the grey-and-white snake in her full length, her mouth splitting open to an impossible degree.

With a single chomp, she swallowed the corpse whole.

An explosion seemed to erupt within Jinx's body, and right before Kael's eyes, her size suddenly began to increase.

From barely half a meter, the little snake's body stretched to three meters in length, yet she showed no signs of stopping. Just as she reached five meters, a searing pain suddenly shot through Kael's entire body.

With a cry, his perception was violently ripped out of the ring and back into reality, where his body crumpled to the ground.

Before the stunned eyes of the survivors, Kael writhed across the ground, veins bulging violently along his neck. He rolled onto his stomach, his hands digging into the sandy ruins so hard that his fingers nearly sank into the earth, when four bulges suddenly rose beneath the skin of his back.

It felt as though something ancient had awakened inside every cell of his body. His blood began to boil. His bones groaned. His flesh writhed as if something beneath it was trying to claw its way out. When suddenly...

With a wet, squelching tear, four jet-black limbs reminiscent of a spider's legs burst from his back before rising high into the sky.

RUMBLE!

The ground trembled violently as an earthquake was triggered.

"Wha—What the hell is going on?"

"Do you see that kid? There are things jutting out of his back!"

"I said it, didn't I? Those two siblings are demons. Demons! They'll be the end of us. Let's join hands and kill them now while the brother is down!"

"Will you shut up? Don't let the big shots hear you!"

"If not, what? We're all going to die by those demons' hands anyway. What is there to fear?"

"Then why don't you go kill them yourself?"

"Huh..."

A ruckus broke out among the survivors, but the Epic-ranked individuals didn't spare them a glance. Instead, they watched the scene unfolding before them with focused yet grave expressions.

Many wore wary looks, while only a few showed genuine concern. Among the latter were Kael's team, who had already moved to stand beside Rose, and the Principal, who continued observing from above. As for Claire, a conflicted expression rested upon her pale, beautiful face. But if one looked closely into her eyes, they would find another emotion lurking deep within.

Fear.

Back on Kael, the four limbs protruding from his back were black, smooth, and glossy, like polished obsidian. They rose nearly three meters into the air before coming to a stop.

It was then that a massive swirl of mana formed in the sky, causing the earth to tremble and the heavens to rumble.

The vortex became so dense that it condensed into a brilliant blue tornado nearly three meters wide.

Before anyone could react, it descended upon Kael, swallowing him within its embrace.

"What is going on?"

Nathan was the first to reach Rose's side, unable to hold back the question plaguing his mind. But when he saw the quiet look of fascination on the little girl's face, his eyebrows couldn't help but twitch.
