Ba-dump!

Ba-dump!

Ba-dump!

The group could hear their hearts beating like drums in the background. The aura the beast was emanating was so suffocating that they couldn't breathe. So overbearing that they could not move. So despairing that their hearts tightened so badly, their held breaths almost hitched.

'A-attack...' It took everything out of Rose to issue the command, and yet she had barely been able to.

The now level 23 undead Rose had guarding at their side suddenly lunged forward. Knowing how weak the undead was compared to its warrior counterpart, Rose only made it stand before the group, and launch its attack from a short distance.

Three balls crackling with fire flew through the air before colliding with the massive courser. The beast didn't make a move to dodge, the flames exploding on its frame before engulfing the surroundings.

Two gusts of wind generated by the steed's breath instantly extinguished the burning flames.

Before anyone could react, the stallion flashed before them, its head colliding with the zombie.

The latter exploded into crimson mist that dyed the bodies of the group. Only their eyes remained visible, the sight of their pupils shrinking clear for all to see.

However, a strange sight played out. Unlike before when the beast immediately attacked anyone on sight, the Ruinsteed merely stood still, its crimson eyes watching the rooted humans, and its every breath blowing against them like a scorching storm wind from a furnace.

It was then Natalie moved.

Ms. Claire and Rose wanted to shout... they wanted to reach out to stop her. Yet their bodies wouldn't budge. The fear had already overwhelmed them.

The massive steed didn't make any attempt to move, even as it watched Natalie draw closer towards its massive frame.

But when it saw how she struggled against its breath, its breathing slowed down, allowing the girl to reach its front.

Natalie took deep breaths, and slowly raised her hand.

From the beginning of the battle till now, she was the only one among the group who had done nothing. She felt so useless.

A part of her was already starting to despise her class despite how highly ranked it was.

What was the use of being able to share senses with animals if there were barely any of them to find? Besides, how would sharing senses save her life in times of danger? Would it give her strength to overcome any adversity? Would it give her the speed to escape any danger?

No.

It did none of those things. But...

Now that she found herself in this situation, one of her class traits surfaced within her mind.

Class Trait : Animara

[Beasts instinctively feel drawn toward you and develop protective tendencies. Creatures you favor become significantly more loyal and affectionate, while those you despise experience amplified hostility toward you.]

Natalie raised her hand, and the group behind her watched in stunned silence as the massive courser shook its head once, before lowering its frame.

  - TAP!

The soft sound sounded like an exploding nuke to those who watched.

Natalie gasped at the feeling of warm coarse fur brushing against her trembling palm, the violent beast before her unexpectedly docile.

"Please rein back your aura." She whispered as gently as she could. She was no beast tamer. Her class didn't allow her to control such creatures. But in this case, there was little to no difference.

The beast huffed once, as if complaining. Still, the overbearing aura surrounding it suddenly disappeared, allowing Ms. Claire and the others to collapse to the ground, like puppets who had their strings cut.

.....

Alice was deep in the fields outside the school, rampaging and killing weak zombies, that she didn't notice what happened. As for Kael, his eyes were transfixed on the situation on the battlefield, that he didn't even realize how close his group and sister had almost come to death.

The situation on the slaughter ground had completely reversed. From finding themselves close to victory, the Ruinsteeds were now on the back foot. Surrounded by zombies, corrupted wolves and centipedes, and even their own members, they could only defend themselves. One by one, they fell, only to rise up and attack the remaining ones.

It was such a despairing sight.

Yet Kael watched as the epic-rank destrier put all its focus on the now joined elite crawlers. Despite how slightly weak they were on the battlefield, they took advantage of their numbers and teleported behind unsuspecting stallions before sinking their jagged teeth into their flesh.

The epic destrier suddenly released a distorted neigh, a bronze aura emanating from its majestic figure. The crimson mane down its back waved as the pressure around it increased by several folds.

'Is that one of the perks of being a first order?' Kael noticed how the destrier wasn't the only one releasing this bronze aura. Every first-order creature on the battlefield was giving off the same.

The epic destrier streaked around the battlefield, appearing and disappearing from one side to another. Even the elite zombies who could teleport could not react before they were blasted into oblivion, and even Kael could not catch a sniff of its movements despite being under the effect of GODLY FOCUS.

How could they? When the destrier was not only an epic-rank beast, but had also reached level 33. With how much it had rampaged on the battlefield, the Ruinsteed King was only getting stronger. They didn't even get the chance to evoke their mental abilities before they were cut down.

Alas, one or two hands could not stop ten pairs, no matter how strong they were, especially when the latter were not directly facing it.

One elite zombie after another successfully killed the stallions, and soon after, two of them reached level 24. It was then the situation changed once more.

The destrier neighed in anger, but the two crawlers had already teleported away from the battlefield. One moved towards the half-destroyed male dormitory, before smashing through the massive doors on the ground floor, and into what was the school's canteen.

Screams soon resounded from within. With a bright blue flash, a boy holding a small girl appeared outside the building, tendrils of blue lightning surrounding his figure.

His body zapped through the battlefield with such speed Kael knew that if he didn't boost his own with his Energi, he couldn't match it.

Kael's eyes fixed on the text above the boy's head.

[LV. 9 ??? (EPIC)]

Panic flashed on the boy's face, as he held his sister tightly. He tried to keep to the sides of the battlefield, attempting to reduce as much attention as he could garner. His breaths gradually became rough pants as he erupted with his full might without a care for mana consumption.

He flashed before the main building, a feeling of relief almost engulfing him, as he bent his knees slightly, his calf muscles flexing, as he prepared to make a jump...only for the level 24 crawler to blink into existence right before him and bite his head off his neck.

The last thought he had as darkness surrounded him was...

'Rhea.'

Kael's body tensed and he almost took a step as he watched the little girl in the embrace of the now headless boy cry out in pain while calling out the name of her elder brother, the spurting blood soaking her wet.

The crawler raised a hand, and Kael boosted his mind stat by one unit of Energi after another. Under the effect of Godly Focus, the effect was amplified by one and a half times. He watched in slow motion as the hand fell on the girl like a guillotine, and as teardrop after teardrop fell from the girl's eyes even as her mouth moved with her cries.

In the end, his raised leg didn't fall down.

He had already noticed the second crawler had disappeared into the main building and from the sounds of explosions coming from within, he could make a guess of what was happening.

'So this is the reason, huh?'

The thought surfaced in his mind as the girl was turned into a bloody mist, and the crawler continued to feast on the boy's flesh. Soon after, it released a guttural roar, as shocking changes were taking place within its body.

Kael's expression became frigid. His eyes turned to the battlefield in time to see another two elite crawlers reach level 24.

This time, they disappeared from the battlefield and rushed in his and his group's direction.
