NAME: ???
RACE: Phoenix Familiar (Mythical)
LEVEL: 11
STATUS: Bound Familiar
DESCRIPTION:
A fragmentary descendant of the Mythical Phoenix race. Though it possesses only a tenth of the authority and essence of a true Phoenix, it still carries traces of the ancient bloodline that once ruled over flame, rebirth, and destruction.
Its flames do not burn allies. Instead, they soothe, protect, and restore those acknowledged by its master, while enemies perceive the same flames as harbingers of fear and annihilation. When destroyed, it only returns to a dormant state bound to its master.
SKILLS:
[Crimson Sunburst (Epic)]
The familiar creates multiple flaming clones of itself before unleashing a coordinated aerial barrage.
Cooldown: None
[CALL OF THE PHOENIX (Epic)]
The familiar summons the spectral image of an ancestral Phoenix from within its bloodline.
The manifestation unleashes a concentrated beam of Aeternal Flames capable of incinerating enemies, purifying corruption, and overwhelming hostile energies.
Cooldown: 60 seconds
[Flames of Rebirth (Epic)]
The Phoenix releases sacred flames capable of restoring life force, regenerating limbs, and stabilizing mortally wounded allies.
Cooldown: 24 Hours

Kael was rendered speechless upon viewing the little chick's status screen. Wasn't this too overpowered?
Not only did it possess three Epic skills, the first two could be used consecutively in battle. Kael had thought he was the only one with skills without cooldowns, a perk of his Primordial Class.
'Guess the Mythical rank, even a false one, is that strong.'
[Chirp]
The cry of a small bird suddenly resounded in his mind, almost scaring the shit out of Kael. But when he realized the source, his eyes couldn't help but widen.
'Was that you?'
[Chirp]
'Incredible! So we can now communicate using our minds?'
[Chirp]
'That is neat.'
He could feel the emotions conveyed through the chirping sounds and could almost instinctively translate their meanings. Only now did he confirm that this familiar of his was no less intelligent than an average human.
[Chirp]
Kael couldn't help but chuckle when he heard what the little chick said next.
'Yes, you are so awesome, and it's my greatest fortune to have you.'
The Kael of before would have felt a great rush of excitement receiving such an OP pet, but this time he took it in stride. Still, he smiled as he thought,
'Me and you, partner, are going to do great things.'
'Before then though, I think you deserve a name.'
His eyes settled on the top of his familiar's status screen, a hand finding its place under his chin.
"How about Pheona?" He thought the name was pretty good, especially since he coined it from the familiar's race.
But what he didn't expect was for his familiar to respond badly to the suggestion. It suddenly jumped from his embrace before flying in circles around him while chirping furiously.
"Alright, alright." Kael laughed at its—no, her antics. He could feel that the little chick was a female, an instinct he got as her master. As his new partner, he didn't feel okay referring to the little chick as an object.
Just when Kael was thinking about a better name for his new partner, he didn't realize that all the negative emotions he had been feeling had been washed away. He was starting to regress back to his former personality before the apocalypse descended. The coldness that had seeped into his mind and the mental scars left by many close shaves with death were slowly being erased.
Only later would this hidden perk of his familiar be revealed to him. Just like his class, the system didn't reveal all its secrets to him. That would just be spoiling the awakened. It allowed them to gradually dig out their potential with time, well, those smart enough to.
"Big brother..." Kael was suddenly pulled out of his thoughts when he heard a soft, shy voice.
Sophia almost looked away when her golden eyes locked with Kael's dark-as-night ones, but she still steeled herself and voiced out after a moment,
"Can I name her?"
[Chiiiiiirp!]
A long cry that could be translated as NO! suddenly echoed in his mind. Kael raised a brow before an amused look surfaced on his face.
"Go on."
He ignored the incessant chirping sound ringing in his mind after his response. It seemed his life going forward was going to be fun.
Sophia flashed a bright smile, every sign of nervousness disappearing instantly to Kael's amusement.
'Seems someone is competing for my partner's love already.'
Clapping her little hands and with her face flushed with excitement, Sophia spoke.
"Let's call her Celeste."
Kael's right brow arched upward once more at how the little girl was so sure his familiar was a she. Still, he didn't spare it much thought.
To be honest, he felt the name she suggested wasn't bad, but considering his partner was still chirping in his mind even at this moment, Kael couldn't help but feel helpless.
This new familiar of his was really dubious. Why wasn't she showing her opposition in the open and instead being noisy in his head? Kael shook his head.
'Guess I am the bad guy then.'
He turned to Sophia, about to reject her suggestion, when he froze at those two adorable puppy eyes gazing at him with expectation.
'Bloody hell!'
He ran a hand through his messy hair, wondering how something as simple as choosing a name could be so troublesome.
His familiar, as if sensing something, suddenly landed on his head. Kael's eyes flashed open at the sudden change when his eyes locked with two crimson pools also gazing at him with big, unblinking puppy eyes.
The small familiar arched her head downward, obstructing Kael from seeing Sophia.
'Nice one.' Kael sent a mental transmission before gently shoving his familiar's head away.
Looking at Sophia, he smiled and rubbed the girl's head.
"Okay."
"Yay!" The little girl hopped in joy almost as if she had received a Christmas gift.
Before his familiar could react, Kael quickly voiced out,
"But I will also give her a name."
"Oh!" Sophia looked at him in surprise while the person—no, bird—in question suddenly flew before Kael while flapping her little wings in expectation.
Thinking about the tiny flickering yet strangely alive flames around his familiar, the word pyre suddenly came to Kael's mind. A pyre was a burning flame used in funerals and rebirth. Yet unlike a normal pyre, his familiar's flames felt warm instead of destructive.
So he altered it slightly and called her...
"Py. Short for Pyrae."
A pin-drop silence suddenly enveloped the room.
Rose, who had been quiet at the side, suddenly gazed at her brother like he was an idiot. As for Sophia, she revealed a look of confusion. She had never heard of such a word in the first place, so she couldn't appreciate it. As for the bird in question?
It seemed to deflate, its flapping wings coming to a still, as it fell to the ground with the look of someone whose hopes had just been crushed.
"Hahaha!" Kael laughed a bit as he rubbed the back of his head in embarrassment.
He looked at his familiar and sent a mental transmission.
'Don't worry, I will think of a better name later.'
Py gazed at her master with a look that said, "Do you think I am an idiot like you?"
Even the system seemed to have registered her name, and that showed on her status screen.
NAME: Pyrae Celeste
RACE: Phoenix Familiar (Mythical)
...
...
Py puffed out a breath, her wings spreading outward dramatically in utter defeat.
Seeing this dejected sight, Sophia quickly lunged forward before scooping the little familiar into her embrace.
'Oh!' As if remembering something, Kael sent a mental transmission.
'What was that about an ultimate unique skill?'
He received no response for a few seconds. Just when he was starting to think his familiar was angry with him, a reply came.
[Chirp]
A rueful smile surfaced on Kael's face as he received the very clear and deliberately pointed "I don't know" reply.
Turns out even a female Phoenix knows how to hold a grudge.
