ENERGI: THE PRIMORDIAL CONDUIT[OP MC, APOCALYPSE, SURVIVAL, AND LITRPG]
CHAPTER 75: DAYLIGHT ROBBERYKael's eyes shot out two beams of light, as they turned a deep, mesmerizing shade of blue.
The world seemed to stutter as everything slowed. No... it wasn't that the world slowed, instead it was his mind that accelerated to a monstrous degree.
This wasn't what surprised Kael though. He had already experienced these changes before.
Instead, he had a weird feeling, like if he should just follow this line, then...
"Whoa!"
Kael gasped as he felt something shift within him. His entire body trembled violently as an indescribable sensation surged through his skull, as though invisible hands had grabbed his consciousness and torn it cleanly into two separate streams.
Two separate minds.
It wasn't multitasking. It was as though two versions of himself had begun existing within the same skull.
Even his feeling of surprise was instantly suppressed under the might of this mythical skill, his expression turning flat, and a calculating glint flashing beneath the abyssal depths of his eyes.
"So, this is Godly Focus at full power, huh?"
He had barely finished his words when veins bulged faintly around his temples as blood trickled from the corner of his nose. His brain felt scorching hot, like it was being burned alive from the inside.
The strain was immense.
He quickly turned the skill off, his mouth stretching open as he greedily sucked air into his lungs.
Only when the migraine subsided could Kael form a coherent thought. It was then he heard a familiar chirping sound.
Looking at Py, who stared at him with concerned ruby eyes, Kael smiled lightly before rubbing her feathers.
"I am fine. It's just a headache."
Py looked at him for a moment before shutting her eyes. As if sensing what she was about to do, Kael quickly stopped her in her tracks.
"There is no need to use your skill, Py. I am fine. With some more rest, I will be back to a hundred percent."
The little chick tilted her head to the side as she searched his eyes. Only when she was sure he was truly fine did she relax.
A warm feeling sprang up in Kael's heart. He rubbed his finger beneath her head, and was surprised to see her release a cute cry, her wings slapping lightly against her sides in pleasure, and the tiny flames flickering around her feathers dancing happily.
"Hahaha! So this is your soft spot, huh?"
[Chirp!]
Kael smiled as he continued petting Py. Gradually, his mind slowly wandered off.
'I was truly foolish. This is a mythical skill. Even if I had not used it at its fullest, I still used it for a long time. My body must have already been under immense strain, but the pain was probably suppressed... or maybe I was too distracted to notice it. Yet I still pushed further and activated the second state. No wonder it almost killed me.’
A rueful smile surfaced on his face as he berated himself. Still, he didn't dwell on it for long. He wasn't the type to drown in his mistakes; instead, he would learn from them.
'I guess I should focus on raising my vitality stat... that should alleviate some of my weaknesses.'
With his mind made up, he didn't hesitate and instantly shoved a unit of Energi into his vitality stat. After ten seconds, the stat returned to normal, without a change. But Kael wasn't discouraged and instead shoved another point into it.
Just like that, Kael found a way of improving himself, one that had no clear limit.
With that settled, Kael finally shifted his attention to the new system feature.
With a shift of his intentions, a new panel appeared before him.
[SYSTEM SHOP]
[FIRST PURCHASE BENEFIT ACTIVATED]
[All newly awakened humans will receive a 50% discount on their first purchased item.]
[This privilege applies only once. Choose wisely.]
Kael's eyes lingered on the perk he received for a moment before he studied the shopping panel that appeared before him.
The shop was separated into different categories.
First, there was the Basic Survival section. Here, the system provided necessities like water, nutrient bars, canned food, medicine, and many more. Further down the endless list, he even saw different strips of meat obtained from various animals, some even awakened beasts. There were extravagant items like chocolate, wine, ice cream, cakes, coffee, energy drinks, and even luxury meals prepared by famous chefs. The endless catalog scrolled downward like a marketplace containing the entire world's supply.
It was just that the costs displayed beside them became increasingly outrageous.
Even a piece of bread was sold for 2 coins, the same price as a bottle of water.
Kael's eyes fell on the small line at the bottom right of the panel.
Coins: 2344
(Total coins rewarded since awakening.)
Now Kael understood his sister's reaction before.
‘This shitty system is indeed a scammer.’
One must remember that Kael had killed a lot of undead creatures by now. In fact, he doubted there was anyone who could rival his kill count. Just the number of undead leeches he had killed surely numbered in the hundreds.
Yet the system dared to price something as small as a chocolate bar at 50 coins. Even the price of strips of ordinary meat started from 20 coins.
This was simply daylight robbery.
‘Sigh...’
He focused on an item that had gotten his attention, and a message panel containing its description flashed before him.
[Nutrient Bar]
[A compressed survival ration capable of sustaining an awakened for one day.]
Cost: 5 System Coins
