AN: Did I forget to mention the title of the current volume is "ESCAPE FROM THE HAUNTED SCHOOL"?. Oops! 😬

It was in the middle of this frustrating situation that Kael suddenly felt the presence of someone entering the room.

He shifted his gaze, while Py, who was resting comfortably in his embrace, only caught the movement out of the corner of her eye.

Kael's heart couldn't help but skip a beat when he saw the person.

Her figure was simply breathtaking. The definite curves of her waist in her short skirt that barely reached her knees, the ample bust in her chest, the slimness of her exposed tummy, and her round, enchanting belly button, courtesy of her shirt tied just below her chest. In fact, from the few opened buttons at the top, Kael could just make out some soft fleshly mounds that left him swallowing hard.

Seeing how Kael reacted to her presence, Iris flashed a charming smile, her light pink eyes glowing with a mischievous glint.

“Hey.” She stopped just about a foot from him.

With Kael looking up from below, her short skirt seemed to constantly play tricks on his mind. All he had to do was just lean forward…

“Hello,” Kael forced out with a somewhat hoarse voice.

Iris flashed another smile before bending forward, and “unknowingly” revealing more of that seductive valley.

“So you are the great Kael, huh?”

A stunned look surfaced on Kael's face, and Iris could almost swear she saw a question mark floating above his head.

She gracefully covered her small mouth with a hand to suppress a light giggle before she continued:

“Little Junior Natalie has been singing your praises since yesterday. According to her, you singlehandedly vanquished any monster you met, and are the reason they are still alive.”

“Oh!” A look of understanding dawned on Kael, but that still didn't stop a wave of embarrassment from nearly suffocating him.

He rubbed the back of his head, a small blush coloring his pale face.

“I didn't do much, honestly.”

Iris raised a brow, inwardly questioning if he was only being humble or was genuinely telling the truth.

But she didn't allow it to stop her from advancing her agenda.

“Can I sit down?” She pointed to Kael's side as she asked.

Kael hesitated for a moment. Beautiful or not, the spot Iris was pointing to was too close, and would make him feel uncomfortable. But when he saw that ever-pleasing smile on her face while simultaneously catching a glimpse of that deep valley, he couldn't bring himself to say no.

“Sure.”

Iris’ beautiful smile widened before she moved to his side, swept her hands down her butt and to the hem of her skirt, and then gracefully sat beside Kael.

Even while properly securing her short skirt, just the sight of those tantalizing long legs completely exposed, nearly gave Kael a nosebleed.

‘This is too much. Don't look, Kael, don't look. Have some self-control, man.’

“So…” Iris could almost feel his nervousness, but she didn't think the time was ripe. If Kael was as strong as Natalie had claimed, she would only have one chance to make her move.

“Is that a Chick?” This time, she genuinely asked in confusion. How did Kael have such a creature by his side, and it even seemed so attached to him? Did it have something to do with his power? Besides, was this really a chick? She could almost swear the flickering flames covered by some plumes of feathers on the chick's head resembled a… crown?

Just what was going on?

Kael didn't know how to respond to such a question. He just couldn't reveal Py was a PHOENIX, right? Besides, would anyone even believe him?

Left with no choice, he could only answer with,

“This is Py. She is my familiar.”

“Familiar?” Iris' mouth widened slightly. Was this chick the reason why Kael was so strong? Then, why did it, no, why did she appear so cute? It took every ounce of Iris's restraint not to snatch her away from Kael.

“Can I touch her?”

It was Kael's turn to raise a brow this time. He turned to look at Iris to see if she was really serious, but almost instantly regretted his action.

It seemed in her excitement, Iris didn't know she was showing more skin than she had intended to.

He secretly took another deep breath and looked down at Py. Hearing no complaint, and seeing no visible rejection, Kael shrugged his shoulders.

“Sure.”

Iris flashed a smile, a genuine one this time, not like Kael could tell.

She stretched her hand towards the uncaring Py, who had her eyes closed. Seeing no problem, she instantly reached out and petted her side.

Or at least, she tried to.

“OUCH!” A high-pitched cry of pain suddenly resounded in the room. Iris fell on her side as she gripped her hand, which was covered in blisters.

Tears uncontrollably streamed from her eyes as she held her wrist with her other good hand.

“Hey, are you alright?” Kael was shocked at the sight before him, before he quickly scrambled to his feet and moved towards Iris.

He quickly summoned a health potion from his space ring and brought it to her trembling hand. He poured the substance on her hand and offered the rest to her.

Yet no matter how they tried, the wound refused to heal. At this point, Iris was already shrieking. She had almost fainted more than once when she saw her unblemished skin ruined, but the pain grounded her consciousness in place. Whatever plan she had in mind flew out of the window.

As if realizing something, Kael turned to Py, who was now resting on the ground, unbothered.

‘Stop it, Py,’ he sent a mental transmission.

The little chick puffed out a breath that swayed the plumes on her head. The sight was almost too adorable to watch. But to Iris, who was still crying in pain, Py looked more like a demonic beast pretending to be cute.

After correcting Py, Kael tried a health potion, this time even using his coin to buy the highest-ranked one the system shop had to offer.

Finally, with Py restraining the properties of her flame, the blisters swiftly recovered with a speed visible visible to the naked eye.

In two minutes, Iris' hand was back to normal.

“Are you okay?” Kael stretched out a hand as he tried to check on her.

-PA!

But his hand was unceremoniously slapped away.

“Get away from me!” Iris rose to her feet, her beautiful face flushed with anger. Her sweat-soaked hair clung to her head, and all she saw was red.

She had never experienced such pain before.

Glaring at Kael, she stumbled out of the class without once daring to look at the still-unbothered Py.

Kael felt some guilt as he watched Iris leave. He couldn't help but feel it was a pity to get in the bad books of such a beautiful girl. Yet no matter how he asked Py what had happened, the little chick didn't deign to answer him.

He could only drop the matter after a while and return to studying the Archive fragment.

Just like that, Iris was saved from a terrible fate. Her class abilities were completely useless on someone like Kael. But that wouldn't have stopped Kael from holding a grudge against her—after all, he was the pettiest person in two worlds, old and new. One only had to look at Rachel, who didn't lose much to Iris in terms of beauty, to confirm such a fact.
