"Seth."

A deep, quiet voice suddenly cut through the laughter.

I turned my head toward the front of the skybox. Grandfather Alistair was standing near the glass railing, his dark eyes snapping away from the stadium floor to lock onto me. He adjusted his grip on his silver-headed cane, his weathered face looking unusually solemn.

"Yes, Grandfather?" I asked, tilting my head in confusion.

"What, precisely, did you do during your excursion to Uruk yesterday?" Alistair asked, his voice carrying clearly across the room.

I blinked, thoroughly perplexed by the sudden interrogation. "Uh... nothing crazy, Grandfather. I just wandered around the city, checked out the markets, tried some local street food, and looked at the sights. It was pretty fun."

Alistair let out a heavy, gravelly grunt, his sharp eyes narrowing slightly.

"If you merely ’wandered around enjoying the sights’..." Alistair spoke slowly, letting his words hang heavily in the air, "...then why did I receive an urgent report from the divine authorities claiming that Goddess Ishtar was seen weeping in a public plaza... because my grandson rejected her love confession?"

PETTTT!

I nearly choked on my juice, coughing violently.

The entire VIP skybox fell into absolute silence.

Julian froze mid-sip, his glass hovering inches from his lips. Alice stopped petting Dylan’s hair, her jaw slightly dropping in shock. Sitting on the sofa, Yoona’s dark eyes widened in astonishment, while Val snapped to attention, staring at me as if I had just announced I blew up a moon.

I wiped my chin with a napkin, staring at Grandfather with wide, flabbergasted eyes.

"Wait..." I choked out, my voice cracking slightly. "She was crying?!"

Alistair remained stoic, though his dark eyebrows twitched with subtle disbelief. "The report specifies that the divine Goddess of Love dropped onto one knee before you with cosmic rings, and after you turned her down, she remained frozen on the pavement in tears. Care to explain how you managed to reject a deity on your very first day in Uruk?"

I sat in the center of the VIP skybox, staring at Grandfather Alistair in utter disbelief.

Honestly, I hadn’t expected Ishtar to actually cry after I rejected her proposal, much less break down in front of everyone on a public plaza. I had assumed that an ancient, four-thousand-year-old goddess who had lived through centuries of cosmic turmoil would easily brush off a simple rejection, take it in stride, and move on.

Who would have thought the legendary Goddess of Love and War would end up weeping like a heartbroken high school girl over a rejected proposal?

Clearing my throat to shake off the awkwardness, I took a slow breath and addressed the room.

"Look... I did meet her in Uruk," I admitted, keeping my tone calm and measured. "We spent a couple of hours walking around the city, checking out the secret spots, and having some food. At the end of the tour, she pulled out a ring box and proposed to me. I didn’t think we were compatible, so I turned her down."

I purposely left out the parts about her blunt breeding comments, her obsession with my Origin genes, and her subtle transactional view of marriage. I didn’t want to sully her divine name or make her sound bad in front of everyone. It wasn’t like she was a bad person, she was just severely out of touch with normal human relationships.

The entire skybox stared at me with varying degrees of shock. Even Mom looked at me like I had suddenly grown a second head.

Sitting on Alice’s lap with a half-eaten strawberry pastry in his hand, little Dylan tilted his head, looking up at me with wide, innocent eyes. "Big Brother Seth... is the Goddess of Love really super pretty?"

I offered Dylan a warm smile. "Yeah, Dylan. She’s drop-dead gorgeous. But physical beauty isn’t the only thing you should look for in a person."

Dylan nodded thoughtfully, chewing his pastry. "Okay."

Turning my attention back toward Alistair, my expression became serious. "Grandfather... is rejecting her really going to cause trouble for humanity?"

Alistair let out a heavy sigh, his dark eyes looking exceptionally grim as he rested both hands on his silver-headed cane.

"Unfortunately, yes, Seth." He stepped closer to the center of the room, explaining the high-stakes reality. "Unlike foreign pantheons, humanity does not possess a surplus of native divine entities. Ishtar is one of the oldest and most powerful goddesses bound to Earth’s domain, and her authority effectively anchors the conceptual stability of Uruk itself. The High Council strives to keep her content and cooperative."

Alistair rubbed his temples, a headache clearly forming. "Furthermore... she holds the divine Authority of Love and Passion. If the literal Goddess of Love plunges into a state of divine depression or romantic heartbreak, her passive authority can cause severe conceptual distortions across Uruk, affecting emotional stability, fertility wards, and even diplomatic ties between multiple factions. It makes things complicated."

I frowned, realizing the sheer, absurd weight of the situation. I looked straight at Alistair. "So... are you saying you want me to go back to Uruk and accept her marriage proposal? Because I really don’t want to."

Alistair opened his mouth, his dark eyes shifting slightly as if he were preparing to suggest that I take one for the team for global harmony. "Well... if it means securing the stability of Uruk—"

Before the words could fully leave his mouth, Mom suddenly stepped forward. Alice offered Alistair a bright, radiant smile. But her eyes were completely devoid of warmth, narrowing into an intensely terrifying, lethal gaze that practically screamed, ’If you force my son into an unwanted marriage, I will tear this skybox down.’ The temperature in the room seemed to plummet by ten degrees.

Alistair instantly froze. A cold bead of sweat rolled down his weathered temple. He let out a sharp, awkward cough, hastily backpedaling on his words.

"Ahem! That is to say, of course not! You are by no means obligated to accept her proposal, Seth! We would never force you into such a thing. However... the underlying problem remains. We need to find an alternative solution to cushion her divine pride."
