One of the serpentine monsters suddenly raised its head as if it sensed something. Its eyes swept around the ruins before finally locking onto Clyde.
For a moment, none of them moved. Then the creature opened its mouth and released a deep, guttural hiss.
Clyde noticed immediately and grinned, "Yeah, you spotted me, bastard."
He did not hesitate. Clyde turned and fled.
The serpent reacted almost instantly. Its long body twisted through the air as it pursued him, its wings beating against the distorted space and sending powerful currents through the surrounding debris.
But none of the other serpents followed. They remained around the crater, watching.
Clyde glanced back briefly. Interesting. It seemed they possessed a certain level of intelligence. One human had appeared, but only one of them had bothered to chase him. Perhaps they considered a single human too insignificant to justify abandoning their territory.
That made things easier. This turned out much better than his plan. He had planned to face two or three of them at once.
Clyde accelerated.
He moved between floating chunks of concrete, slipping beneath a drifting building before jumping onto the remains of another structure. The serpent followed relentlessly, smashing through obstacles rather than avoiding them.
Clyde suddenly disappeared behind a massive fragment of a skyscraper.
The serpent slowed down. Its head moved from side to side as it searched for him but it found nothing.
It continued forward.
At that moment Clyde moved. He launched himself from behind the debris and accelerated instantly.
Lightning erupted around his body. Blue-white electricity crawled across his limbs and body as he enhanced his speed and physical strength. The sudden burst of power turned his movement into a blur.
The serpent did not have time to react. Clyde slammed into its head with tremendous momentum.
The creature’s skull snapped backward.
Before it could recover, Clyde drove his sword directly into its eye.
The blade pierced deep. The serpent released a deafening shriek.
Clyde’s hand tightened around the hilt while lightning surged through the sword and exploded inside the creature’s skull, spreading through its nerves and burning deep into its head.
The serpent thrashed violently. Its head swung from side to side, smashing through floating concrete and tearing apart the remains of nearby buildings. Its body coiled and uncoiled wildly, its tail striking everything within reach.
Clyde released his sword and jumped backward.
The serpent’s jaws snapped shut where his body had been a moment earlier.
Clyde twisted through the air and landed on a floating slab of concrete several meters away.
The monster continued to rampage.
Its shrieks echoed through the ruined city as blood and dark fluid poured from its wounded eye. Electricity continued to crackle beneath its scales, occasionally bursting from its mouth and nostrils.
Clyde watched from a distance. A grin slowly appeared on his face. The attack had worked.
The lightning had penetrated deep into the creature’s head, damaging its nerves and disrupting its movements.
But it was still alive. The serpent suddenly stopped thrashing.
Its remaining eye moved slowly through the ruins. It searched and it found him.
The creature stared directly at Clyde. Its single eye had become bloodshot, its pupil contracted into a thin slit.
There was no confusion in that gaze anymore, only hatred.
Clyde’s grin widened. He tightened his grip around his sword.
Clyde charged at the monster. Lightning erupted around his body, blue-white arcs whipping through the air. They crawled across his arms and shoulders before gathering around his legs, reinforcing his every movement with explosive power.
The wounded serpent roared and lunged at the same time.
They collided in the middle of the ruined street.
Clyde twisted beneath its snapping jaws. His sword flashed up and sliced across the creature’s scales.
The blade cut through them with surprising ease.
Clyde’s eyes narrowed.
The new sword felt light in his hands. Its balance was excellent, and when Pure Lightning flowed through the blade, its sharpness increased dramatically. The edge seemed to vibrate with destructive energy.
The serpent swung its head toward him.
Clyde stepped aside. The creature’s enormous body passed overhead.
Clyde followed beneath it and sent a strong slash.
His sword opened another wound along its belly.
Stab. The blade pierced between its scales. Then a deep cut appeared across its side.
The serpent twisted violently, trying to crush him with its enormous body.
Clyde jumped backward, lightning exploding beneath his feet and carrying him away from the sweeping tail.
He landed briefly on a floating piece of concrete. Then he disappeared again. Lightning flashed, and Clyde reappeared beside the serpent’s neck.
His sword swept horizontally. The blade tore through the thick scales. Dark blood sprayed into the air.
The serpent screamed.
Clyde did not stop at that. He continued attacking.
His movements were precise and his strike targeted a clear weakness. He cut through its wings, stabbed into its scales, and opened deep wounds along its body.
The monster became slower. Its movements lost their coordination. Its roars became weaker.
Clyde finally stepped beneath its head.
The serpent tried to bite him one last time but Clyde moved aside and his sword flashed.
The blade carved deeply across the creature’s throat. For a moment, the serpent remained suspended in the air.
Then its enormous body went limp.
Blood poured from the open wound as its head dropped forward. Its wings stopped moving, and gravity seemed to remember its existence for the first time.
The massive corpse slowly descended through the air.
Clyde stood beneath it, lightning still crackling faintly around his body.
He looked at the dead monster. One down. Nine remained.
He pulled his sword free and shook the dark blood from the blade.
He moved again toward the place where the other nine giant serpents had gathered. Since he already knew they would not be too difficult to deal with, Clyde intended to lure more than one of them out at the same time.
He arrived in front of the monsters once again.
The serpents immediately raised their heads and stared at Clyde, seemingly surprised to see him return so quickly.
Then, without warning, three of them launched toward him at the same time.
